I love that Insta360 is leaning into the FPV community, but for lightweight builds we need to lose the magnets. They are heavy and simply not required if the camera is going into a tpu mount. Pogo pins, or a simple jst connector would be miles (grams? centigrams?) ahead!
Lol, centigrams=P If you do a mod for mass, and you're able to shave off something that is in the order of one hundreds of a gram, you're not doing it right (1 centigram would be 0.01 gram), at least not for a quad. I guess if you really want to, you can crack the case open and remove all the stuff you don't need, and just have some wires between the camera and your FC. That's surely a few grams.
I think it’s amazing that Caddx is listing to the community, but for the price if I’m flying a larger drone I’d prefer to go with a GoPro 8. No SD card is a real bummer.
It is heavier with the connector than an Insta360 SMO. The form factor is an advantage but it is unnecessarily heavy. I hope for a version 2. Without battery, internal voltage regulator 5-17V, Swtich with ranges (stop/video/pictures), SD Card slot.
Well, I learnt something last week: Things can go worse. I suspect the peanut to have loosen a feature. Since 4 days I test my peanut. First of all, image stabilization in Pro Video is just great. I do think, you cannot get it better. But there are 2 downsides. As others report, the configuration is tricky, since the app does all temporarily in live shoot mode. That's a pity. Well, it is all settings for just the live camera preview mode. I use Android. You have to go to settings to make things permanent. With this finding I configured all the settings I need. When it comes to either press, double press etc. I suggest, just configuring "nothing" for any kind of short, long or whatever double klick would help to clean the too-much-options. In fact I would like the Quickcap settings, defining the action after single and double press when in sleep mode, to be configurable to none. Thirdly, Neither the Insta360 (Android) App nor Insta360 Studio 2022 (latest Mac version 4.2.2) provide the advanced functionality Joshua had presented. It is just cut, stabilize, reframe, speed change. That's it. No keyframe, no stab-editor (insert rolls...), and reframing is about changing the aspect ratio only. I searched for any kind of activation, in-app purchase or so, but the only thing I found was a registration on insta's website. It did not change anything. In case, another kind of registration or activation was needed, I did not find it. In case, this was a bad documentation. Otherwise Insta has removed some features I suggest? Shooting in ProVideo, 30fps
Thanks for taking time on this review and looking at it from many angles. Others seem to focus on one thing each. Im glad to see another option out there for sure. This looks like a solid contender.
This is a fun little camera, if I were to buy it, I would probably just buy the go2 rather than the peanut, for the case/remote and the extra waterproofing But that’s so I could use it outside of FPV
But the peanut also has this button on front which makes things easier in some sort of way. Check out painless360s video where he goes in more depth about this feature.
"arbitrary weight limit" is the perfect way to describe it. It will go even lower next year because it's not about safety or reason, it's about limiting it to the point where it's unattainable...
Exactly what I've been saying. But, everyone wanted to gov't to "keep us safe" and allowed them more control in order to do that, so now we're reaping the rewards of that.
Love your Channel. Just Subscribed. I stopped this video @6:32 to ask “Could we not bust out the Dremel or the 3-D printer and ‘ridge’ our Insta360 Go2s?”
I see 3d printed solutions coming for the go 2 and the peanut dongle so it can be fixed at its correct position (and sanded down ridges on the dongle so it actually connects).
I know your not like "the cinewhoop guy" but i would love to have seen your stick moves while you were flyin, as a noob I like to see how different pilots fly to help my understanding :)
I'll write the same commentary as I did on Albert Kim's review : There is absolutely no reason to design a different camera than the Go2 and make all accessories incompatible (cable, filters, case, etc). Insta360 and Caddx are segregating users for no reason other than selling you another camera. They could have releasing just the cable without the ridges (and find another way to prevent it from sliding around), and you would have all the advantages of the standard Go2, along with the increased autonomy of the Peanut. Dick move if you ask me.
Good News You can make your own for cheaper and or make your own Go2 just as handy there selling the camera separately and connector for quads. ua-cam.com/video/NIn5SDd6YYc/v-deo.html
Hi Josh YES ! I like it most all my quads are 3in and smaller. For years I have been using my DVR in my Googles. I did purchase a HD camera but it was made by a no name company that it wasn't good. But it didn't matter, I was starting to fly , and I crashed to much and it broke very fast. Now I'm not crashing as much, I'm still crashing. But I still really want one. Thanks again for the video and information on the peanut.
I don't have either product but wonder if you shave the ridges off the power plug attachment then the plug would make contact. Then just a mount or lacky band to hold it steady

I think this version is not very good. 1. Cut down on the remote dock while it does the job. 2. The weight is heavier than the full version by 2 grams (if you attach the charger, it will add another 5 grams) 3. No longer water resistant If you want to fly and charge at the same time, you can buy a separate charging cord if you want. (if the company has retail). And then just add a slot for an SD card and boom - the ok-quality ultra lightweight never out of battery and never out of memory micro-quad cam is born. I'm going to write this here again as no one seems to consider it. The Runcam 5 Orange weighs 39.4g after removing the batteries and adding a cable. The case and internals are all held together with screws too so no ripping involved. It'll run off 5v from an FC. The latest firmware also supports writing gyro data from the IMU as CSV which can then be used in Gyroflow, which is free and on top of stabilisation also does superview post processing and lens correction.
Oh also on top of working from 4:3 1440p, it'll accept the 4k30 'XV' linear stretch output, make it back into 4:3 and use that as a higher resolution source.
Correct comment from your editor! NEVER use 'FLAT' or fake 'LOG' profiles on tiny action cameras! Once the footage is recorded to the camera there's no going back. You are stuck with a heavily compressed clip at a low bitrate and even the basic grade you need to apply in post just to make the footage look normal = (density + saturation) will break the quality and create compression artefacts. Much better to let the camera record on it's default colour profile (also avoid enhanced modes like 'VIVID'). With this approach your footage is recorded with a basic grade right from the start and from there you can tweak it in post. Both the recent GoPro's and Insta GO2s have really impressive colour science for such small cameras!
The question is does it overheat. The insta 360 overheats after about 10 minutes of doing nothing but recording, you need to be moving. My first one died, had to send it back and get a replacement, just from sitting on the quad recording.
Yes, it heats up. But it was meant to be used with drones and the airflow it gets is sufficient to keep it at the right temp. Sorry, but this is from the manufacturer. If your Go/Go2 overheated even while it was flying around, I’d be concerned with this one too since it’s practically the same camera with one major difference (for the worse), it’s getting charged while flying. I’m pretty sure the charging and the longer flight times won’t help heat management and, while the shells are slightly different, it won’t be by much.
Good point. The 360go 2 is a great camera, and the fact you can use the software to do what gopro wants a ton of extra money to do, is a nice bonus. But I use mine for not only drones (well, just started trying that actually) but also for coaching (hat clips, etc) makes it frustrating that it cant take more than 5 to 8 minutes in the florida heat. Also, will the same magnetic connector work, and just not stick, or not work. I ask because its a really simple thing for me to draw up and print something that gives it a resting point in the right spot.
@@IconicProps Not from what I've seen in other videos. Apparently, the backs are different, so the Peanut won't fit the case of the Go2 and the Go2 won't connect properly to the charging connector of the Peanut. No personal knowledge here. Just sharing information.
I really dislike when people say naked gopros are fragile. Maybe its because i have the ability to design my own mount but all you do is put it in a beefy tpu mount. Ive been running a naked 7 for well over a year now on a 5" 6s marmotte. Ive broken 2 frames and gopro is still as solid as ever.
Purchased a Insta360 Go2 when they came out, and let's just say had nothing but problems and their support was horrendous, so that's a instant deal breaker. You can change the name, but under the hood is still the Go2 which is questionable. I'd rather pay the extra $$ and get a naked GoPro.
That's what I don't like about it. The whole ridge thing seems like a whole lot of BS to make the charging clip proprietary with no added benefit. Also, if they're making the clip why not just build the 5V regulator into the clip instead of providing some janky additional BEC? Looking like a decent product, but seems to miss some important points.
Am I right that the Naked GoPro 8 you mentioned should be durable enough if my intentions are only to fly indoors, for real estate purposes? Amazing info you shared about the Caddx Peanut's required 5v voltage and the PH 2.0 connector's battery output. You just saved tons of money for buyers who are about to fry their camera.
This is a total toss between the Insta360 SMO and The Peanut.. They are same price but, 1 does 4k and is 3 grams more, gives you a few more options and the other is smaller in profile, more durable. Gonna have to think about this for a bit lol
Hi Joshua, cheers from Chile. I saw the review and read all comments. And my conclusion is that it's a nice option. ¿why? because it's the one that offers more for that price (Not second hand items). ¿Make a naked with the hero 7? Ok, but you have to do that tricky disassembly in order to put inside the naked case. Also as you said it's considerably more fragile. In FPV world I prefer a more resistant camera instead of a better resolution in this quality range. Ben Schmanke from AuthenTech has a side by side comparation with the hero 9 and the insta360 go 2 looks preetty good to me. And most considering the price. You forgot to tell that you can start/stop the recording with the transmitter if you set up the cable correctly on the FC. The memory capacity is poor but you can connect the camera directly to a PC with data cable (And maybe to the smartphone via adapter). For 6S drones just use a 5v out on the FC. Not a big deal
insta Go (cost A$200) much better price wise but the Insta Go 2 was a huge price hike @twice the price. If the Peanut is priced well, I might be tempted as I fly RC Aircraft.
Can the camera be used and video extracted without the use of a phone app? Can any video editing software be used to extract and edit the video via a PC? I just want a KISS Mobious with great image and stabilization, without having to be linked to cell phones, apps, clouds , and all that extra AI sugar. As far as the brand Caddx, I do like the ANT camera on the tiny quads and I use to like the Turtle system with the onboard DVR but I think it was just too much from a form factor, those little tiny multiple wire harnesses were problematic, while the camera were and are still are imo the best part.
I am not sure the mobile app is a big advantage... maybe it'll work out if you have a ton of free space on your device, and if you can get it to reliably connect to the camera without failing, AND if the app will run without complaining about not having permissions it's already been granted. I don't own any devices where all three of those things are true.
any update about caddx peanut action cam it log over heat hang cannot save video corapted always how to reset or reformat or any suggestions pls need help
Problem with decased hero 8 from geprc - i got few dots on screen that aprears if you go above 100 ISO. It's Reb and Blue dot's that appear. Geprc refused to replace it so it's around 400 usd into the trash can ...
I just got a go 2 and wonder if those new clips have same pin configuration as to work then with the go 2. The ridge is not an issue, that a 3D print or something could fix….🤔
If this camera had at least 60fps for 1440p, it would be a very compelling option. But with 50fps max for anything above 1080p it's pretty useless for FPV.
I am currently using the Go 2. I’m getting in longer flights on pro mode. The limitation you didn’t mention is the internal storage. You can off load video to a phone but that’s going to take some time. I think the regular mode may support stabilization but its performance is awful.
So I just bought the flywoo firefly nano hex and it has a little cable to hook up a camera (I also just ordered the peanut hours ago) but you are saying that I just can't hook up the cable to the camera? It will fry it? Then what's the sense of the pre installed cable? I'm confused now.
Actually GO2 is a 'daily driver' for my lightweight 4" quads. It's definitely not a pro quality but it does great what it's meant for. A higher price is a bit of downside but still I really love how the camera keeps things simple. My sample footage here: ua-cam.com/video/D91-kuZiwR4/v-deo.html
I have a bad experience with InstaGo 2. My Go2 suddenly cannot. Connect to my phone. The wifi signal gone...!! I've try any way to fix it, but no result. I still can control my insta go with the case. But i cant imagine if This Peanut got same problem and no case can control it.. 😂
Hi, I have ran into a problem when I try to activate the Peanut. I knew that you clearly mentioned that we only need to press the orange button once and the Peanut will simply activate right away. Well, its not in my my case. I have tried to activate the Peanut to several mobile phones and the Peanut still refuse to be activated via Bluetooth to the Inta360 App on the mobile phone.
I really don't have any quads that can fly for 10 minutes on one pack. so for me, it's kind Meeeeh. I don't mind having to start a new recording when I swap battery packs anyway.
how long does the battery last with out power source, its either this or the insta 360 2 ,,, im looking for a camera that i can use on my drones ,but also take with me hiking
The internal memory limitations are still a huge turn off… shame because I love the idea and like 70% of the execution… I just can’t get over that though

Is the lens user replaceable? If not FPV hasn’t really been thought about and CADDX are just doing good marketing spin!
I can't wait to see the first naked hero 10
There a few already done it .
@@mx118racer they didn't put it on UA-cam then because i looked and haven't found one
Would you be able to cut off the ridge on the dongle and 3D print a case that holds it in place?
That's what I don't like about it. The whole ridge thing seems like a whole lot of BS to make the charging clip proprietary with no added benefit. Also, if they're making the clip why not just build the 5V regulator into the clip instead of providing some janky additional BEC? Looking like a decent product, but seems to miss some important points.
Or just remove ridges and super glue two plastic runners on back of camera ?
@@eldronado I think many FC have 5V 2A BEC
Really out of luck on the crossover because of lack of ridge. Or perhaps some painters tape for the win!
Should review the instago 3
I want your shirt!
The baby is super cute
I'm buying this peanut jusy for fun only, if i go to with 5 or 7inch, still using gopro8 with reelsteadygo ,
Am I right that the Naked GoPro 8 you mentioned should be durable enough if my intentions are only to fly indoors, for real estate purposes? Amazing info you shared about the Caddx Peanut's required 5v voltage and the PH 2.0 connector's battery output. You just saved tons of money for buyers who are about to fry their camera.
Thanks for the awesome video Joshua, and yes your boy is super cute! 😍
Loving the sub250 content.
Matek voltage regulators are SOLID.
Looks like my neck of the woods
Tennesse Mountains
Great review as always.
Nice vid, will get me one. Question: where can I find that shirt?
insta Go (cost A$200) much better price wise but the Insta Go 2 was a huge price hike @twice the price. If the Peanut is priced well, I might be tempted as I fly RC Aircraft.
SMO 4K or Caddx peanut? what do u prefer?
Great review. Cool little camera. 🤓
Think i cannot resist to get one...
Ciao e scusami se non capisco ma le impostazioni per il video il colore lo lasci in automatico o in log per un post editing ??
I am not sure the mobile app is a big advantage... maybe it'll work out if you have a ton of free space on your device, and if you can get it to reliably connect to the camera without failing, AND if the app will run without complaining about not having permissions it's already been granted. I don't own any devices where all three of those things are true.
Insane video, TX !!! i go for peanut
I'm surprised how Caddx is working together with Insta360 and DJI at the same time. Considering they have somewhat competing products.
They’re probably all owned by the same government anyway…
any update about caddx peanut action cam it log over heat hang cannot save video corapted always how to reset or reformat or any suggestions pls need help
Problem with decased hero 8 from geprc - i got few dots on screen that aprears if you go above 100 ISO. It's Reb and Blue dot's that appear. Geprc refused to replace it so it's around 400 usd into the trash can ...
my caddx peanut just blink red led rapidly, what happened? can't turn on without charger, when turn on my peanut can't record
I just got a go 2 and wonder if those new clips have same pin configuration as to work then with the go 2. The ridge is not an issue, that a 3D print or something could fix….🤔
We wait for the dji osmo action 2 then I decide for a purchase Ciao bel video .😊😊
If this camera had at least 60fps for 1440p, it would be a very compelling option.
But with 50fps max for anything above 1080p it's pretty useless for FPV.
1440 50
I am currently using the Go 2. I’m getting in longer flights on pro mode. The limitation you didn’t mention is the internal storage. You can off load video to a phone but that’s going to take some time. I think the regular mode may support stabilization but its performance is awful.
I get 20mins now in pro mode. Battery dies. I am pretty sure I got longer when it was new
Could not find the link in the description
Joshua can't get uart control working properly it will turn on camera but not start recording any help appreciated thank you
The 360 go is such a versatile little camera. I'm not sure I could dish out all that money and not have the same functionality...
where did you get you side mount for it? so it can be mounted on a side instead of just vertical ?
I like the phone screen capture, very pro
The ELRS is connect to the UART 2 or UART 1in the cinelog 25?
Very informative great
Can you do the same power and voltage charging test with jumper light and crsf module?
is it possible to put a capacitor in instead of a battery
I have a bad experience with InstaGo 2. My Go2 suddenly cannot. Connect to my phone. The wifi signal gone...!! I've try any way to fix it, but no result.
I still can control my insta go with the case. But i cant imagine if This Peanut got same problem and no case can control it.. 😂
Hola amigo. Una pregunta❓. La FC kakute f4 v2 mini es compatible con inav
Hi, I have ran into a problem when I try to activate the Peanut. I knew that you clearly mentioned that we only need to press the orange button once and the Peanut will simply activate right away. Well, its not in my my case. I have tried to activate the Peanut to several mobile phones and the Peanut still refuse to be activated via Bluetooth to the Inta360 App on the mobile phone.
can this work as a webcam or as an otg camera conected to a smartphone via the usb c cable?? thanks
So can I fly this and it will record without plugging it into the VTX or battery
Woulda been nice to see it shaped a bit more like a peanut to differentiate it, lol.
I want that tshirt. Where can I get one?
The internal memory limitations are still a huge turn off… shame because I love the idea and like 70% of the execution… I just can’t get over that though
My biggest complaint is that you need a $500 phone to run the app. I hoped that caddx would have fixed this.....
This still for sale? I see out of stock for a long time in Caddx website. If not for sale what is the other options?
If we're shooting everything else in horizontal, why would we not want slow motion to be captured in horizontal also? Around 11:30
We do. And in order to get that you must mount the camera vertical.
Did you made custom PID tune of cinelog25?
It's got that Brick wall effect going on a lot
