In 1914 my Grandmother traveled to the Adirondack to meet her husband. He was a Civil Engineer and Surveyor building roads up near Lake Placid. The route started with the railroad out of Albany then switched to horse and wagon. She was quite rugged as she brought her household in two trunks with a toddler in tow. She talked of a boarding house where they lived. I love seeing the horse and imagining her traveling in the woods.
Very Cool sharing the wealth with your horses..! Well done with thanks and thumbs up.!
Glad you enjoyed it
You can tell the horses are working hard up the hill
Good afternoon Jim and Brenda, what a wonderful video, what a wonderful life.Bill and Lady worked so incredibly hard, they do you proud Amazing watches you going through the beautiful woodland, the colours and the smell of leaves and wood you cannot beat it,doesn't matter what time of day it is its always soooo beautiful.Thankyou so very much for taking the time and effort to put this video together.l would love a life like yours, how lucky you are.All the very best 🌱🌱🌱💕🇬🇧uk
Thanks so much for watching!
That was certainly different! Must have been harder work than it looked, first time I've seen them sweaty. Paddling off across the lake with loaded canoes, an anachronism, a recreation of the past, if with modern gear stowed on board. Jim was the only one with the easy going, the team sure made the men and lady step along rather smartly. Unique experience, even just watching it.
I love your videos. I am 41 years old now. Even though I am handicapped I was raised on a farm were we raised a lot of different animals. My favorite was having horses or mules and seeing my dad and brothers work with them. Although I couldn't work with them. It was my favorite part. I help some with the putting up the fresh meat and vegetables. It always takes me back to being on the farm by watching your videos. I wish my mom and I were still able to be back on the old home farm. Thank you for sharing your everyday life on the farm. We as a family has done almost everything you do on your farm except for sawmill work. But my dad told us stories of his first job was a offbarer at a sawmill when he was only 15 years old. I hope I got the name right for the job he did? I am not good with spelling lol. The job was were he took the slabs of bark and stacked them. Anyway thank you again for shoring your videos. It brings back great memories and injoy bye for now.
Hi Douglas, thanks for watching our videos, we are so glad they bring you enjoyment and bring back good memories. We hope you can continue to stay connected to farming
@@WorkingHorsesWithJim Goodmorning guys and girls. I hope to continue watching your videos to. Keep up the good work and may your everyday life on the farm bring you joy for many more years to come. Even though in can be hard at times can't wait to see the next one. Hope you all have a great day.
Thank you Brenda and Jim. This was so beautiful to watch. It looked like something out of 1770.
Glad you liked it!
What a beautiful area.
Jim, I'm hooked on your horses !
You have a wonderful life with horses.
Thank you very much!
That was a good walk. Wow. Horses must love this type of work. What do you think? Great work Brenda.
Lovely to see the girls harnessing very entertaining they are both so expressive in their body language and expressions. a little more practice and they will have it. i had a good laugh very entertaing
A beautiful walk in the woods. Thanks sooo much for taking us all along. What I wouldn’t do to be there and hear the crunching leaves beneath me! My kind of adventure,no doubt! 👍👏🏻

Real outdoors at its best, hope they all have success with their hunt !! Good luck.
Wow, this was absolutely fantastic. No better way to get into the Adirondacks. Boy those canoes looked packed! Great job team, and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Idyllic. I’m never disappointed watching these videos! You live the way I think I was meant to and I look forward to every visit. God is smiling on you for bringing this special channel to us
Thanks suzannamomma for watching and for your support. Hope you get to do some of the things you enjoy
What a walk
Thank-You Jim & Brenda
Glad you could help them hauling all their gear. I'm sure they will do it this way from now on. Beautiful scenery.
Love to watch you work the horses
Those hunters certainly would not have been able to enjoy that experience had it not been for you folks and the team. Beautiful scenery, thanks for taking us along for the truck.
They have been doing it without us, but they said this was much easier and faster. Thanks for watching.
In WV it’s the same rules in the Monongahela National Forest, nothing motorized. We have a guy who takes people and their gear in only he uses mules. Always great to see any team working like that. Great video, thanks!
An adventure for sure. Looks like all went well. Sounds like it was much easier for the hunters this way. The first minute of the show reminded me of Mr. Rogers when he would switch his shoes before starting into his show. Thanks for sharing how versatile horses can be!
The Mr. Rogers comment made Brenda chuckle. She’s a big fan.😀
I enjoyed watching this video. I bet the hunters were pleased to make the arrangements with you to haul their canoes in to the lake.
Beautiful adventure/video. Very peaeful to watch. Thanks for taking us with you!
That was so neat! I bet those guys slept good that night. The horses kept the guys almost in a trot!!

I was impressed with the trail ride. Bet those guys will be exhausted when they reach their destination.
Yes, for sure!
This was very interesting. And those hills hauling up the canoes, i can guess that Bill and Lady had rest of the day off :)
Yep, they did!
Pretty cool guys👍
Awesome video. Loved it. Hope to see more. Take care and be safe.
A very interesting place and way to go getting the hunters their and back.
I'd say the hunters found it harder work then Lady and Bill.
That would be just fun, wow
I have never experienced hunting. Awesome! God bless America
Thanks for coming along!
I wish you would have told us where you were up here. I live in Tupper Lake and the plain the guys were talking about from Long Lake is about 22 miles from where I live. This was very nice to see. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a nice safe day.
We were sworn to secrecy by the hunters😀

Loved the video. Reminded me of some trips with my dad up around Big Moose. The part i didn't like was hauling the deer back out !!!! Lol
Glad you enjoyed it, yes, that's the hard part
I bet he will be glad to get where he’s going with hunting no one is asking alot of questions.
Nice trip
Your wife is in really good shape walking in and doing the camera and talking.... I think you could likely work her a bit harder than you do.... lol haha... now that is a video worth watching..lollol
That would only get me in trouble, haha
This was a great video tu
Jim rides the whole way and camerawoman Brenda has to walk LOL
I suggested earlier in the year she should get a riding horse!
Why would you make a comment like that? Very disrespectful
@@sincin9935 HUH?? Cant you see Jim riding and Brenda walking? Lighten up lady. It was just said in jest but I guess you dont get it.
@@bigrigger5617 , really?? Thousand people look at this and you are making Jim look bad sir!
@@sincin9935 get a life woman and stop taking things sop seriously. you must be a real beast to live with
They probably wanted to drink that pond dry when they arrived lol
Just found your channel and am enjoying it! !!...apparently you are in new York. ..I have a friend who bought a camp in the southern tier and is having center logs sawed for siding on his campaign. ..I wonder if you might be doing it for him??HE IS FROM CICERO NEW YORK. ...I HAVE A CAMP IN THE ADIRONDACKS MYSELF. ..AWESOME VIDEO! !!!
No, I don’t have any customers down there. Thanks for watching glad you’re enjoying the channel!
Nice to see shame camera lady did not go in for the hunting nice to see horses used my Grandfather used heavy horses most of his life Cornwall England.
Your cart and the 4 that the canoes were on were all left there? I'm guessing that they are chained and locked to a tree? Is this the first time you have done this?
those horses are hauling up that hill
Yes they were. It was harder than we thought due to the length of the train. And several of those hills were very steep
Jim, How did the horses do? you're opinion. how many stops did you make?
It was harder than I thought, the long train made it harder to pull than I thought. Several very steep hills. We made two stops
How do they typically get back into there? Have they been just been walking in and pushing the canoes on their wheelies?
Yes, that’s what they have been doing. They said this was much easier!
marvelous country. How did Brenda manage those before and after shots ? Lots of walking for her. That lake was just perfect with the calm water.
Brenda likes to walk, it was fun for her
@@WorkingHorsesWithJim excellent. I thought after, that cart has no suspension, so it was probably a rough ride.
It sure was😀
I guess I missed it. Where were you? Beautiful lake!
In the Adirondack mountains- but we can’t disclose the exact location..promised the hunters we wouldn’t
Good day Boy interesting video. I think you said 5 miles 1 way, 10 miles both ways, how would that compare to ploughing in a day? I'm know hunter. Thanks
It’s hard to tell, Jim thought it was harder than he initially thought because of the length of what they had to pull.
@@WorkingHorsesWithJim I thought afterwards, go by time. 4 hrs in field would almost be the same as 4 hrs walking in bush. Thanks It was a good video
Great video and good editing with voiceovers. Where was this trail head and what body of water did you trek to with the hunters? My curious self wants to see the path from Google Earth and see what kind of topography you had to deal with. It seems that the horses and Brenda had a good walk and cool shot with the sunshine and sweat steaming as horses pulled!
Hi Dave! Thanks for watching! Sorry we can’t disclose the location...we were sworn to secrecy by the hunters😀. It was a beautiful day and lots of fun! Stay safe and well!
@@WorkingHorsesWithJim Oh well... was a fun tag-along via video! :-)
What lake is that? Love the Adirondaks. Hiking the Northville-Placid trail in sections with my grand nephew. At 74, it’s tough but worth it!
We were sworn to secrecy by the hunters😀. Yes the Adirondacks have some pretty rugged terrain, but so worth getting to!
@@WorkingHorsesWithJim I understand completely. Such places are best not overrun.
Hi ? why do you travel the horses with harness , i have a miniature horse broken to drive , after about 2 or 3 miles he well sweated up espeicially under the harness . thanks great video regards frank in N Ireland .
I do that all the time because I use them for logging, and they are well used to it. It’s just so much easier.
