Funny story, I first beat this on the original PS3 release in like 4 tries and wondered why everyone was complaining about how unfair and difficult this fight was. I played the remaster maybe a year ago and it took me about a dozen tries to win and realized I must have just gotten insanely lucky back then.
From what I have seen at based on cut content videos. They attempted to change the bed of chaos boss fight after testing, but simply ran out of time to finish the new version of it hence why it stayed in the game.
I'm pretty sure if it had released with the balls not staying destroyed, DS1 would legitimately be remembered as a game that was pretty good up until it fumbled at the 20 yard line with Bed of Chaos. With the balls staying destroyed the "fight" is annoying but it's at least easy to get through once you know the gimmick.
I'm kinda surprised in hindsight that the Remastered team didn't just pull a Vamos Bonfire and delete the runback. That alone would have made it at least twice as endurable. Which is not saying a lot, but still.
@@smol_hornet613 at this point the run backs might just be a meme to the devs cus it's almost the same with Rennala from Elden Ring. Her boss room isn't that far but you can still essentially die while getting to her and her phase one is also a hassle to get through, if you die it's aaaalll the way back there.
Fun fact: Kanata suffered so much in this fight (as you can tell from the shear length of her part in this clip) that she literally had PTSD about Bed of Chaos. She still mentions it every now and then (in recent Elden Ring playthroughs too) when she come across a huge obstacle / getting hard stuck in fromsoft games, saying at least it wont get worse than the Bed of Chaos fight LOL
What I love about Kanata's chat is they always successfully gaslight her into make her believe on something absurd lol like this bed of chaos fight for instance, I still remember when they baited her into think "there is safe lava to jump" in DS3 which she believed and did it to just comically died, and they also often did a late respond reaction to bait Kanata's godly tsukkomi...
To add insult to injury the izalith shortcut is a longer runback than the normal route, i never knew this Everytime im back on ds1 this is always the 3rd/4th boss i kill just to get the ptsd out of the way by using elevator glitch
I thought I was doomed, as a mage, until I remembered "oh, I have great magic shield!" and managed to force my way through them slaps in still like 4 to 6 tries.

One thing i didn't like. You don't include the moment they kill the boss. Would have liked to see their reaction to being done with it. Like how you did with Pekora. But great clips.
This boss was basically proper emulation of a professional soccer player, one strain of grass will make you tumble all over the place and fall, lol. lol

Well, it is the worst and most hated boss in the game for a reason.
You should see her reaction when fighting Curse-rotted Greatwood in DS3, her Bed of Chaos PTSD immediately kicked in from seeing the giant wood 😂
