    I think the fabric could have full potential on certain bass cabinets that have tweeters since the mids would already be scooped. This could then act as an equalizer for that kind of setup.

    I do wonder how long people have been doing this. I know that the Grateful Dead was doing it back in the late 60's with their cabinents with tie dye cloth, haven't found an earlier example though. I think it's a cool look. Had always wondered if it would have much of an impact on tone. Great video!

    The fabric made the entire track louder. Amazing.

    I have a hard time believing that was ALL grille cloth difference, and not additionally a tiny bit of mic placement/speaker difference. Great vid tho!

      Thanks. Understandable. But that’s the only change 😁👍🏼 mics were placed in the exact same spot on each cab. Measured multiple times.

    Would be generous of you to share the source for those fabrics... It does make a difference to my ears.

    Ive been thinking of doing something on my box which currently has a metal grill with no material. I was surprised at how different it sounded to me. Definitely sounded nice. Would definitely make me consider a couple different grills for different tones, plus the ability to change up the look is cool.

    What I would do is use the same speaker cab and play with a particular grille covering, then take it off. Being an amp tech and cab builder, I can tell you that there are other variables (like what direction from a spool you're pulling wire... that's just one) that can make the difference you're hearing. Wire direction can absolutely make a scooped/not-scooped sound.

    • @stefanpichler159

      Wire direction? Sounds interesting! Please explain more! Iam serious.

    • @Rezonances
      @Rezonances 3 роки тому +1

      @@stefanpichler159 It's the same thing with fuse direction. As a test, take any speaker cable or better yet, guitar cable, and flip the ends. One way sounds punchy and more direct to the speaker. The other way is more holographic and as if the sound is lifted off the speakers (height-wise). This phenomenon takes place with every wire and fuse in an amp or speaker cab. This is why so many guitars, amps, cabs, receivers, Hi-Fi speakers all sound so different even with the same materials. Now when you hear and feel the difference with guitar cables and speaker cab cables, imagine the many cable orientation combinations going on with the pedal board. Some pros know this effect, so they have ends of cables labeled.

    • @Rezonances
      @Rezonances 3 роки тому +1

      @@stefanpichler159 Also, as a player, you can mentally "connect" to the guitar>amp>speaker loop more directly when the cable is flipped a certain way. One way will be more inspiring and feel like the tone is part of your mind. The other way may be boring. One way is more compressed than the other but is more holographic. There are ways to get the best of both worlds, but modifications have to be done elsewhere.

    • @Rezonances
      @Rezonances 3 роки тому +1

      @@stefanpichler159 Right, it may sound crazy, but that's only because engineers with oscilloscopes (and no soul) don't know how to quantify the tonal changes. They also either don't play guitar, or they have never been to a live show, so they don't know what guitar should sound or feel like. Let me know what you find with the test. ;)

    For me, fabric. Slightly louder, and cuts through more, which I like.
    That's Seriously awesome how much of a change that makes

    ok, I'm totally blown away, I never expected the resuls that you got. It's like a lower mid filter with the regular fabric and a high end filter with the factory grill cloth. Now, I know it's been 3 years and I'll be hard pressed to expect a reply, but could you enlighten me as to what exactly the fabric is? maybe even the sourse, as those patterns were wicked. I was considering tie dye, and not because of The Dead, just because I am from that era and somehow am on this retro kick. Hope you read this and show me the light, thanks. Just for fun, did you consider evaluating the naked speaker against the cloth?

  • @2000SkyView

  • @TheAdyyoung2000
    @TheAdyyoung2000 2 роки тому +2

    Despite the claims here, there is no way the cloth would make this much difference because if it did, logic would suggest these results would be reversed. The fabric designed to transmit audio should be the one with more punch and top end.
    I'm not buying that the huge difference in the in-the mix tracks wasn't down to mic placement/axis. Tiny changes can make huge differences to recorded tone.
    But the video still answers the question that made me look for something like this...that I can use something else without muffling the speakers.

    If all other things are equal then that’s a big difference. It would make sense as well as air passes through these different materials differently as the speaker pushes it.
    Tape - from mic placement - also changes the sound.

  • @bciecko1

    In all instances I preferred the sound of the fabric. Weird how much of a difference. Would this be too much with a different guitar? Playing a Jaguar, a brighter guitar, would that be too much? That's what I'm wondering but it sounded great with the Fabric. Weird how much more present it was by itself and in the mix.

  • @Gornflyin

    Fabric sounds better for the type of music you're playing. I'd like to hear the difference with some heavy metal, to see what it did to a bass heavy sound. Also, something like Pink Floyd, would it be too mid focused ? Great test though :D

    How close is the wire/solder or wire/crimp-spade-terminals between the cabinets? Those variables make even more of a difference than the fabric/cloth. Of course, tight-knit fabrics like what Vox used on vintage AC30 is a big part of their tone.
    Also, how close are the speakers in manufacturing date?

    • @Bluntedco.
      @Bluntedco. Рік тому

      i agree with manufacturing date because i have some bumpboxx freestyle speakers and my older one sounds better than my newer one so it has to deff be a manufacturing thing because they have the same speaker inside each box. good point of view!
