Great review. Hard to find ones that are more useful than, "wow this thing is cool" Thanks for going in depth on it.
Thank you.
Point of reference: Safariland has used Boltoron for a long, long time. All 6000-series holsters are Boltoron.
Dope. I didn't know that. 'Preciate it bro.
Great info. I am looking for a level II duty holster for my XDm with a TLR-1 HL and Dara came up. I’m a lefty so my options are pretty limited for this set up. I had heard the name but never looked into them until now. Your video was the first that came up in my search and you covered everything I had questions about. First review or not, you have my Sub simply because you are thorough. I’m new to creating content as well, I have nothing on my channel as of yet but I will make sure to be as thorough as you are. Keep the content coming and I’ll keep watching! BTW, I’m ordering this holster setup tonight! Thanks!!!
@Proper Gun
Thank you. I really appreciate it, and I'm glad you enjoyed the review. I can't speak highly enough about Dara's products and I'm glad to hear you ordered one for yourself. I'll be sure to subscribe to your channel. Maybe your first video could also be a review of your holster from Dara. I'm going to try and do my best to get more content up, but currently I am in South Africa so I don't have any of my guns or gear here with me. But the reviews and training videos will be going back up as soon as I'm back in Texas. Thanks for the SUB.
Stay Lethal.
I just ordered one of these for my new duty pistol fn 509 tactical. After watching this I know it will serve me for a very long time.
Glad to hear it. Definitely an amazing product that will last.
Just bought a 502, hopefully this holster will fit both the 502 and 509!!
I see what your saying....A thumb pad extension. It could screw to the top of the existing system (or whatever) for smaller hands. IT MAKES SENSE, I can see that.
I wanted a safariland holster for so long but I always cringed when I finally had the money to buy one but I couldn’t and found these guys out and I’m pretty much sold on it
Mine just got here. If you get the level 2 duty for a glock g40 mos, make sure you do repeat make sure you do get that leg strap. Again, you will need the leg strap. They make a strap, it’s for your leg, get that.
@GlockMagic.com88
I definitely agree with you. I would recommend the leg strap for anyone who uses the drop offset mount.
Thanks for the review!! I got one of these ordered. Already have an IWB from DARA. They making great stuff. I didn’t know about boltaron, that’s some good info too.
Hell yeah, good to hear it!
I had no idea either, and when I first read the specs on Boltaron it blew my mind.
Mine has been shipped, can't wait!!
That's great. Enjoy!
I gotta set mine up with the DARA Bridge and Blade Tech Tek-Mount.
Well I just ordered mine the other day and big shout out for providing the specs not alot of pepole get into that
Hell yeah, good to hear. I'm in South Africa for a while, but once I get back to the states I'll be posting some more gear reviews and training videos. I'm going to try and get the podcast going again while I'm here though. If you, or anyone else who sees this comment, have any questions about products in my videos, or any products in general, feel free to comment and I'll do what I can to help y'all out and answer your questions.
Enjoy the new holster, brother.
Stay LETHAL.
Your video actually covered most of the info I really wanted. The other ones I've seen so far said nothing about the thumb press thing for some reason. Lol
Thanks man.
It's not a thumb thing, it's a thumb release and it's very common on level 2+ duty holsters.
Excellent review, subbed. Please create more content.
I will start creating content again once I'm back in the States. Will probably be a while, but I'll get back to it. Thanks for the sub!
Great review... Down to earth with no BS. Gonna order one for my G27 and G22. Thanks Brother, stay safe God Bless ✌️🇺🇲
Hell yeah. Thanks, Brother.
Stay safe, and stay lethal.
I bought one thanks to your vid. Can't wait for it to come in.
That's great! Enjoy!
Got one with the drop off set option for my xr920 and tlr-1. Really stoked.
That's great bro. Enjoy.
Can you attach the holster directly to the belt attachment if you don't want to use the drop down? Thanks
Yes you can.
Good review. Thank you.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Nice Canik handgun that's on your wall. I have the same one. I want that holster for my Canik,
It's a great weapon. Unfortunately, I don't believe they make this holster for the Canik TP9 Elite Combat. I could be wrong, but it will be on their website if you're interested.
Wish they had the Option for a Surefire X400u with the Laser..... my Glock 40 needs a Holster
What if I wanna run a different light? I got a foxtrot2R and they don’t offer a holster with that light config
You're going to be limited to the light that your specific holster will be molded for. If you want to use their holsters you are going to have to get a light that is compatible with what they offer. Some different lights may be backwards compatible because their size and shape are very similar, but I don't know which ones could. If you're looking for a cheaper light I would suggest Olight or the Streamlight TLR1/TLR1HL. I know for sure that they offer molds for Streamlight because that's what my holster is configured for, and I'm fairly sure that they offer ones for Olight as well. Just check around at their options and look at prices.
Does it work if the gun has an extended mag release?
@johnrojas8366 It works for my P320 X5.
What MOS? I’m also a Veteran and Texan. 11B Army, 2 combat tours

New subscriber and brother Grunt
I just got mine in for a VP9 and it seems loose after tightening the retention screws quite a bit. Is it supposed to fit loose because it has the hood on it? My holster for the p30L from HK parts fits snuggly and the pistol will not fall out when holstered and held upside down.
I personally keep the retention screws a little loose on mine because it does have the hood, so that it pulls a little easier. But no it should not be so loose that the gun would fall out of the holster. If there's an issue, call their customer service number and I can guarantee they'll fix the issue for you and get you squared away.
If you want, you can email me at jaredgauch@watchdogtactical.us and send me a short video or some pictures of the holster, and we'll see if we can't get this figured out for ya.
Nice review…keep them coming. Would you say this is a good value?
As soon as my Wife and I are back in Texas and out of South Africa I will be posting more videos. Glad you enjoyed the review. Yes I would say it is.
Nice video.... what gun are you running here with this holster?
Sig Sauer P320 X5 w/ a Springer Precision optic mount & Vortex Venom, Streamlight TLR-1, Gray Guns Super Fat Black Guide Rod & 15lb 1911 recoil spring, and an Apex Tactical Advanced Flat Trigger & Trigger Bar.
How easy was a 2.25 inch belt to thread threw this ? My belt arrives today and the holster is coming Wednesday just curios if maybe I should have gotten a smaller duty belt
The maximum belt width is 2.25" so you don't have to worry. It will fit.
@@WatchdogDefense thank I also paid extra for the drop offset saw this video then wondered if maybe it would already come like that haha thanks for the vid! One more question can you push the hood forward without pressing the button?
@@Tetristactical No you cannot manually push the hood forward. You must press the button to release the hood.
Will this holster still secure my weapon if I do not have the light on it?
They offer the same holster in non light-bearing configurations
Super interested in one of these but idk if the 509T X2 holosun would work well with this holster
I think it would work fine, but if you're not sure then email them and find out.
Yep, it does, I have lost two with moisture issues getting in the glass.
Quick question. What strap do you have on the holster? One inch or the 1.5 inch elastic? Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
Sorry for the late response. I use the 1.5" elastic strap. IMO it's the better of the two choices. Primarily because I don't wear the same kind of pants every day. Some are made of thicker material, or may be tighter or more loose than some. Also the elasticity is very forgiving and comfortable so I never have to make adjustments.
Again, apologies for the late response. Have a good one, Brother. If you have anymore questions don't hesitate to ask.
Great review! Do you know if the attachment hole pattern is the same as safariland holsters? I.e. could I mount a safariland holster to Dara attachments or visa versa?
No Sir, it isn't the same hole pattern as safariland. unfortunately.
Sorry for the late response. I'm in South Africa at the moment, and right now it's crazy with riots and looting.
Dara now has a product called the "Bridge" Adapter that will allow you to mount the holster to a Safariland QLS without modifications.
I wonder if you can throw a cross platform adapters like for g code or safriland qls
Dara has their own proprietary mounting system for their holsters. I had to modify my QLS mounting system to accommodate it. I haven't been able to find any adapters though.
How did you modify it to get the qls fork on it
@@tonyboyruthlesstb4082 Had to modify the holes on the fork to match with the holster. Could only get two screws in the fork and holster, but if you use some blue locktite it isn't an issue.
Dara just released a product called the "Bridge" Adapter that will allow you to mount their holsters to the Safariland QLS system without any modifications.
Isn’t boltaron more abrasive to the finish than kydex though? Also, for someone used to using a safariland holster with SLS hood do you think this hood release would be too different, or have a big training curve to it?
Yes it has a little bit rougher texture on the holster itself, but it's a minimal difference and not something that should sway your decision. No there won't be any training curve. It's simple press and pull. Pressing the thumb release lever down is what will release the hood. Very simple.
Most under reviewed and under appreciated duty holster out there. I have solely gone to using the DARA holsters.
I’m a really big guy, I train gun fighting, we roll around on the ground and I land hard on this holster, with weapon and without in it, and it’s held up.
Only downside is no hood to help protect your optics. While more of an optic issue than holster, I have lost two Holosun enclosed emitter red dots due to moisture making it’s way into the glass.
No comparison to Tier 1 centurion OWB best holster company on the market all these other companies isn’t close
Tier 1 definitely has some amazing products. I would say that their IWB (especially appendix) are the best on the market. But, in my opinion, when it comes to OWB holsters/Duty holsters there are companies out there who do make a superior product. (Dara, Safariland, etc.)
What gun belt are you using?
Is the holster compatible with the safariland QLS system?
Dara uses their own proprietary mounting system, so it is not compatible with the Safariland QLS without modification to the holster or the QLS fork.
@@WatchdogDefense that's a shame. I get going with something proprietary, but it would have been cool to have universal holes on the holster for more compatibility across the board with different mounting systems. I have a number of guns I like to switch out and they are all QLS attached.
@@jaeharris9960 I don't really get it. I understand as a company you want to do your own thing, but so many people use the QLS system. I feel like they would sell a ton more holsters if they were compatible with different popular attachments. But it's not impossible. I have mine attached to a QLS fork. I just had to do a little modification. No biggie.
Dara just released a product called the "Bridge" Adapter that will allow their holsters to be mounted to the Safariland QLS system without any modifications
What magwell funnel are you using on the Sig?
Just the stock one from Sig that came with the X5.
Great review. I'm not familiar with this company. Can they custom make one for any setup? I run IWI Masada
@SeeSaw
Thank you. They don't do custom work for every make/model. I'll send them an email and see if they make any holsters for the IWI Masada.
@SeeSaw They said as long as it's not a light-bearing holster, they can make any of their holsters for your IWI Masada.
@@WatchdogDefense ok. Thanks. I'll contact them on my days off. I run a streamlight light/laser. Thanks again bro.
@@SeeSaw99 You're welcome
Will this holster still retain your firearm if the light is uninstalled?
I'm not sure, to be honest. I'm fairly certain that the friction retention is based around your light because it's a one piece mold and the retention screws are below the light. They do offer non light-bearing holsters though. They have great customer service, so if you email them or call they will be able to give you a more definitive answer.
@@WatchdogDefense alright thanks. I did shoot them a message, haven't heard back likely due to the holidays. Was trying to get this while it's still on black Friday. I'm wanting a holster for the FN 509, I just bought a 502 and the holster allegedly works with both models. One I keep a flashlight on and one I don't. I know on some the retention point is on the frame like my Aliengear, but if the retention adjustment screws are by the flashlight it could very well be where the retention point is. Thanks a lot for your input.
@@d1ndark25 No problem, bro. Hope you hear back from them in time.
I enjoyed the video. Dont want China shit! Ill probably get one for my Shadow systems DR
Glad to hear it. Agreed! The less we funnel money to China, the better. And I definitely think you should. If you get one, let me know what you think about it.
Price ???
$134.99
@@WatchdogDefense thanx 4 the reply bro...
Got a dumb question, do you think it’s too much of a holster to open carry around town? I really want a holster that has hood for extra protection if someone were to try and grab it.
Not a dumb question. I open carry it every day. A lot of people think it's dumb and someone always has something negative to say.....but fuck them. Lol. If you want to open carry, if that's what's comfortable for you, if that's how you choose to protect yourself and others....do it. No such thing as too much of a holster. You exercise your right however you see fit. As long as it's responsibly, go for it brother.
As far as the hood and everything, yes it's great for in case someone would try and grab it. And the thumb release sits low on these holsters which will make it more difficult for someone to spot it or access it, and it makes you get a full purchase of the grip for when you do draw. So it's a safety thing, and it forces good habits.
But yeah, don't worry about it bro. Do your thing and thanks for checking out the video. Stay free, and stay lethal.
And don't forget to like, share, and subscribe 🤙🏻
If you have anymore questions, recommendations, or video requests just hit me up.
@@WatchdogDefense that's right you said it "you do you, fuck'em". How dumb does blue, pink, or green hair look on a person? Stupid as hell to me, but it's their choice and I mind my own business. Plus open carry does have the advantage of fast deployment and it's a deterrent. That's a fact, not an opinion. Police and military use it for the same principle's and tactics, why shouldn't we to a certain extent? I loved your answer. Semper Fi
@@brianriggin4560 Hell yeah, brother. I completely agree. Definitely a deterrent. I have had more than a few people approach me before saying, "Well I conceal carry because if I was a bad guy and I saw you carrying a gun, I would just walk up and shoot you in the head". Well....wrong. LOL> Criminals are ambush predators, and they will run at the first sign of a fight. Open carry or concealed carry...Everybody has a preference, but as long as you're carrying for moral and ethical reasons, and to protect your own...That's all that matters. Thanks for the comment, and I'll try to get more videos up as soon as I can. I'm in South Africa at the moment and can't have my guns here, but as soon as I'm back in Texas I'll be posting more videos and get Watchdog Tactical Shooting Academy up and running. Have a good one, bro. Be safe. Stay lethal.
Would it fit the elite with light bearing
The Elite?
Sorry for the late response. I'm in South Africa with my wife and won't be posting videos for a while.
I think he means the xdm elite osp 4.5" threaded with trl1 hl. That's what I'm looking for also. Thanks
@@pjuliano5305 I'm looking on their site and in the drop down selection it does show the XDM 4.5" + TLR-1.
@@pjuliano5305 I just sent them an email though to double check to make sure it will fit the Elite OSP with the TLR1 HL. I'll let you know for sure whenever they respond.
You should try @usdutygear ther holster are crazy slick
