focusing on transitions and "tricks" at the decks, which this video seems to praise, glances over arguably a more important part of dj'ing, the curation of music. I think most new dj's use way too much time on learning turntable skills and tricks compared to digging for rare and awesome tunes. Case in point, this video was full of tracks I have already heard, which is personally not what I'm after when going to electronic music events. You can have the flashiest or smoothest transition in the world, but it doesn't change the fact that you've heard the same tracks dozens of times. I would much rather listen to a DJ with simple transitions, who spends their time listening to so much music that they can 1) play gems from smaller and forgotten artists and 2) change their set on the fly depending on how the crowd is reacting.
knowing the song and hearing it in a set double or even tripled with other songs you know is huge and. if you hear new song you like and manage to get an ID thats just a bonus. if you want to find new stuff you like then probably do that at home on your own time rather than at a rave
I was a DJ in the 80s and 90s and when I see a video of a club event where all you see is the DJ, you know the party sucked. They don't want you to see the empty, uninterested dancefloor.
Hmm, dunno...also been djing for roughly 20 years and live sound engineer by profession. Worked on countless festival and clubs all around the globe. DJ booth or stage is always present and visible from the dancefloor. Drum and Bass for instance often times has a bunch of MCs also on stage hyping up the crowd. There is nuance to everything. The artist, regardless if DJ or any other kind of musician always takes center stage on an event and I've never been on parties where it "sucked" due to that. Tiesto filled stadiums with people 25 years ago and had a DJ booth like a friggin spaceship. Pretty certain everybody had a blast mate.
(sorry about that last comment but let me add something insightful for the trouble) The rise of DJs who rely heavily on pre-recorded sets or simply press play are frustrating as fuk for those who put in the work to hone their craft. It can diminish the skill and artistry involved in live DJing, as it often leads to a more "passive" performance that lacks the creativity and technical ability of DJs who truly mix, read the crowd, and manipulate the music in real-time without the flashy videos. For true artists, it can feel disheartening when the essence of DJing is overshadowed by these shortcuts. However, it's also important to recognize that music and performance are constantly evolving, and different approaches resonate with different audiences. Still, the art of mixing live and connecting with a crowd through skillful performance is something that many DJs and fans hold in high regard, and it’s crucial to keep that tradition alive. But i also think its nothing wrong with show man ship take kiss for example theatric and talent played part
Dont worry, we have a real mixer table and we dont let plug n play “dj’s” play our raves. If it takes lugging a 300lbs battery into a cave than thats what must be done 💪
Most DJs make DJing looks lame, only DJ I think is good is Venetian Snares, only because he actually does stuff and spins interesting music, EDM as a whole makes DJing seems super lame and uninspiring (this is somebody that comes from playing instruments btw)
I mean true a lot of modern DJ´s are trash but there are still good once if you look for example at Sefa with his This is Sefa shows or Dr.Peacock with Peacock in concert it blows your mind.Anyway good video got some laughs out of me :)
Ah yes, dude yelling at clouds picking not even the lowest hanging, but rotting on the ground fruit to rip on with the charisma of a career bureaucrat. Thanks, algo!
I don’t agree. Being dj nowadays is just same as being a pop star. Old pop stars were influencers, though not stated as this. The more mainstream something gets the less people care about tradition etc. Also doesn’t help that there are a lot of closed minded dj’s who criticizes whoever uses for example sync, while that would help you being innovative and focus on other things.
Fucking awesome you included Torture Nurse! 😂❤️ This is what passion/music is all about! Usually with Music/Djs it is like that. The more Underground it is the More passionate the artists are! Just Check Artists Like Dj Hidden, The Dj Producer, Neks or Hellfish! These are all Very Very good and passionate, as it should be! 🫶🏼
Its not about "modern" DJ's. Its about the EDM Scene
Just the phrase EDM makes me shudder
tired of hearing 50+ songs crammed into a 1 hour set
let us just fuckin groove to a tune
i love that the algo is recommending me cool youtube channels with low sub numbers so i witness them grow big
This is the kind of thing we need

@@silseh I agree. I didn't mean to come off as saying transitions are "the most important part."
Couldnt agree more

Very good video. Love from an old techno head Raver. 😊
Every man that becomes a DJ gets on my damn nerves we have enough of them.
