It is certainly inspiring to find someone who appreciates these cars. I also have a 94 L400 with a manual transmission and it still runs well after 16 years with me. It does need a body paint job and have minor problems with the AC but it will get fixed as soon as I come upon some budget. All in all, it is a great car which needs very little maintenance and most of the repairs I did it myself. I believe it has run almost 400,000 kilometers but it keeps on going and it even does some offroading when the need arises.
That's awesome, buddy! Keep your Delica on the road! I have been seeing Delica with stick shift, ever. They don't exist in Canada. I like Delicas, '94 Delica is my daily driver)
this is great and very informative. I am trying to solve a problem and you clearly might now the solution. I have the same exact vehicle... Ive had her for the past 2 years. She's been driving great. I took her on a road trip in the last two weeks and while on the freeway... which has been no problem, I was driving around 75mph or 120km and out of no where she jerked a little and it felt as she dropped out of overdrive. The RPM's went to 4000 and the speed drop to 50km. I was driving in a very hot environment and I had about 1000lbs in the van. I sent a post to the delica forum and most people said it was the transmission fluid needed to be changed... so I did that (the mechanic said everything looked good not metal shavings or sign of any possible issues), however, it did NOT solve the problem. Others said it was a faulty OD switch but the button works fine. It could be a fuse.... but I was wondering what your thoughts were. I am trying to avoid a complete transmission overhaul... very expensive. I would love to hear your thoughts if possible. Thank you so much!
Hey Mark! I would change fuel filter first before doing anything else. Turn AC compressor off to check for any difference. Also, I will pull OD fuse out to keep OD on permanently to isolate the possible cause. Btw, how many clicks on your Delica? Let me know.
WoW just found your channel Fantastic. We Love our Delica and have made many many modifications to make it a better Vehicle for the Australian Conditions. The very first thing you should do is Install a Device called Engine Guard. It is an Audible tempriger alarm. Overheating is the death of most Delicas. The alloy Head is so weak it will not survive a single overheating. Second is the EGR Valve. Blank it of ASAP it sends the exhaust gas by back through the intake system, causing black gunk to build up in the intake manifold. Also Put a catch can on it and vent it to atmosphere. This is why there is oil in the intercooler.
Greetings from Canada buddy! Thanks for tuning in. We Like Delica, they are awesome like non of other vehicle, especially in North America! Thanks for useful advises. Appreciated your kind feedback! After reading your comment, I searched online for the Engine Guard. I heard about some overheating issues with Delica due to Mountain terrine and summer heat combination. Australia is relevantly flat land but in BC most of the time you drive up and down. I haven't heard about it before. Btw, Engine Guard made in Australia! I found this kit Engine Guard Dual Temperature Kit EG01-2 on Ebay.ca for 168 CAD. Which one do you have on your Delica? Defiantly, EGR valve will get deleted any time soon despite some pros having EGR valve. What oil catch can do you recommend for Delica. There's so many different ones on a market from 10$ to 170$ kits. Cheers!
@@PistonShack I will take some photos of what i've done to mine and get you some links and send you a DM via Tube soon. The engine guard you have found is the correct one made in Australia.

Awesome vid and tips bro!! Also definitely a bit of work to be done too hehehe wishing you good luck man!! And about the back sunroof... I think I just came across to the same issue as you, my one kinda close but only one side goes up to seal even with the roof, other side stay down and leaks when raining😥 How did you fixed yours? I can see that one track is outside like droped down (or broke idk) but there's no way to move it up and either open and close it.... omg!! hahaha
Greetings, Vinici! Well, that still problem on my with front sunroof Delica. As quick, temporary fix with rear sunroof. I opened it up all the way then pushed the button to close while assisting to come it forward and holding front metal shield down. Sunroof came all way forward then lifted up to closed position.
Ive customised mine shes 29 years old and i decided to reinforce the chassis i only use the 4 wheel drive when absolutely necessary they are by all accounts named the japaneese tank 😊
Thanks for your kind support buddy! I'm not sure very you can find used alternator for rebuild nowadays. I would try local Delica groups/communities, junk yards, jdm parts stores ect.
Hello can you please help me with a problem I can see that you know a lot about 4m40 and not only my delica start first key the idle is ok at 1000 rotation and after 15min is going to apprix 2200 rotation and stay there what can it be ? Thank you
What year is your Delica? That's what I need to know first. 1994-1997 4m40 has mechanically controlled fuel injection V-pump, after 1997/5-2007 gen2 4m40 came equipped with electronically controlled pump.
hi mate! put inside in lanžerons mini kamera and you see real state.... i bild same van ,and looks even better than this( of corse i bild for me ,not for sell) , all lanlzerons i make new .... sand blasting the floor from below... bla bla bla.... pulerotan bushes .... this van be perfekt ,but take lots of money and my private time....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i changed for rhd to lhd!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good point Janis! I like your idea to check inside the lanzerons with bore-scope camera before doing rust treatment. What vehicle do you drice instead of Delica?

What do you think of the 4G64 engine on a 1995 Mitsubishi Spacegear that has 95000 miles on it? Is it a reliable engine?
Nice walk around. Thanks for explaining a few things. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, buddy! Indeed, there's literally not much room to get nut off!
