I have long hair in layers. Chin length to bottom of the shoulder blades. I'm trying this. I just washed my hair and blow dried it. I usually put curlers in. After leaving it for a couple of hours my hair curls. I've got thick hair. So wash, blow dry, now robe curl.. I'm going to sleep on it just to see how curly it gets. I'll take it out tomorrow and see how it goes.
My hair is longer than yours but still not long. I'm going to try it on my dry hair and sleep on it. I'll let you know is it works and how it turned out my hair is shoulder length very thick and very coarse waves.
Smiled as I watched this! My mother (and grandmother) used to have this done to her hair when she was young and she did this for me in my teens. It's an old hair curling system, used to be done with strips of rag, known as "ragging" ! xx
I definitely will try this. I let my silver hair grow out and a lot of heat makes it yellow. You are so cute and a pleasure to watch. I am 77 and can barely remember when I was so young and pretty, but still want to look nice and trendy. Thank you
I have actually done this for 30 years with a beautiful scarf and wear it as a quick day time doo. I take the scarf and use it as a roller on the top and put a bobby pin to secure the scarf, wrap each side and use a clip to hold it in place and tie the scarf at the base of my neck in a big beautiful bow. When you take it out in the evening you have perfect curls and know one knew I was setting my hair. Use slightly damp hair.
I do the same as you, roll it in a scarf, wear all day as a style, release the next morning, and viola, curls, which gives me a different style for two to 3 days, and day 4 an updo!!! So versatile!!! Fun!! Aahhh, the magic!! 😃
Your hair looks fabulous! I'm definitely going to try this. I'm 61 and when I was a child in the 1960's, my Grannie used to put my hair in "rags". She tore up an old pillowcase & cut it into strips. I remember her teaching me as she twisted a section of hair then wrapped it around the material, left half the strip out at the top & stage 2 was then wrapping the strip from the top & wrapped that around the curled hair to keep it all in place, then tie the 2 ends together in a bow. My hair was curly til it was next washed. Thank you so much for this tutorial, brings back beautiful memories of my childhood, spending lots of great times with my Grandparents, I loved them like a 2nd set of parents. Thank you! I'm definitely going to try this, my hair is just a little longer than yours. Seeing you do these curls is amazing the shapes you've achieved. Great!
I’m a hairstylist (or was before my babes came along). I absolutely love this method. It’s especially beautiful on short hair like yours, IMO. Also, most hairdryers come with a cold shot button, which is meant to cool the hair and set the curls, or whatever style you’re doing. So, if time is an issue, just use a cool setting to cool hair before removing the robe/“rope.” 😉. That should set them nicely. BTW: I think “Rope-wrap” has a better ring to it, and sorta makes more sense, right?
Very cute. The old is back, as always. When I was little my grandma would make rag curls. Same idea. Just twisting the hair around rags, numerous rags, and tying the ends together. Yes, I’m that old. 🤣
Yes! I do this for my fine, but lots of it hair. Shoulder length. Rags from fabric store (back as well). Sleeping comfy. Dry by morning. Lasts 2-3 days till next wash (with 1 day up-do). Great vid.
I have an A-line about your length too. I also have "side bangs," so i wasn't sure how it would go. I just sectioned off my bangs (parted to the side i normally part them), then parted down the middle (but swooped back over to the side once it was all dry). I also used the bathrobe tie separately in the back (after I ponytailed off the two sides, I added a third twist in the back). Oh my heck!!! It turned out so cute! Thanks for putting this together! This was the first tutorial i found for short hair, so it gave me hope.
Modify like this: one peace goes from the front, the second goes from the back side of the head, then from the front again and after from back again and so on...Only in this case it will be curly evenly everywhere!!! Try!!! U will love it!
I've been doing this for months!! I have long hair and love it. You need to bring the back to the front sooner. Once you take it out if it's flat on top, use dry shampoo on the top.
Omg I found you!!! I have had a few of your hair style pics on my Pinterest for years and did the undercut Bob. It was amazing. When I was searching for info for short hair heatless waves and saw your face, I clicked so fast!!!!!
When I was little, we would use white cotton socks. The thiner the sock, the tighter the curl. They worked well because depending on how you placed them, you would get curls all the way up your head to your crown. You take a section of hair and roll it up in the sock and use the ends to tie the sock. It was easy on the hair and not uncomfortable to sleep in.
I have found the best way to sleep in rag rollers. (My husband's socks) I have super thin shoulder-length hair. Depending on how curly I want it, one or two socks. Literally right on the top of my head, slightly forward. If you use 2 socks, tie them together or use a scrunchy. If you have any stragglers after sleeping in them (I always have a piece in the back), make sure to use your curling iron before you take down your rag rollers. A.k.a. Socks. I've been doing it this way for forty years, and it works like a charm. P.S. Use product and and roll it up dry.
I’ve been growing my hair out and avoiding any heat styling so I use this all the time. My hair’s a lot longer though so it’s easier to get all of my hair. I can get two days of curls without moose (second day is a lot more beachy waves) and 3 with moose but I hate how it feels. For you shorter haired ladies I’d actually recommend bandannas instead. Take two and tie them together. They’re not as thick so it would give tighter curls. It would also be a lot less material to have to tie back and deal with :)
I hate how mousse feels too but the brand Moroccanoil has a mousse that feels like almost nothing but works really well. I have a short bob so I use an egg sized amount on my crown area and another egg sized amount on the sides and front. It’s phenomenal and also curbs ALL of the frizz I have and smells like a dream! I hope you try it and love it!
Oh yes!! I also have mid back length hair, I use a scarf and no hair product and mine lasts at least 3 days!!! I have thick, course, semi wavy hair and boy, this technique works like a charm for me!!!
I love this! It does remind me of rag curls, which my mother told me about. She hated when her mother made her sleep with her hair in rags, LOL! But I love the braiding technique, and can't wait to try it! Also, you are so funny and pretty, and you make it fun!
I’m no UA-camr but I do this on Saturday nights for church on Sundays. I have shoulder length hair and instead of a robe I use a cut up tea towel and it works really well. I also bring the twist further up and back so that it gets more of the back of the head. I start with air-dried hair and add just a bit of curl cream before. I sleep with a cap over (I know it sounds lame but it works to prevent frizz) and in the morning I can wake up do my yoga, get everyone ready, pull my towel out of my hair, and out the door. I get so many compliments. I have textured hair but not a lot of volume and this just adds so much volume.
I absolutely LOVE it! And YES...I will try it. I've seen where people have done 'rag' curls, using just strips of fabric...but it's a different technique and I like your results much better. You ROCK!!!

Really enjoyed your personality in the video... so much so I am going to break my own policy of never watching make up videos.
I loved this video!!! I just shortened my hair I'm usually a long hair girl but since I have gotten carpal tunnel it is very hard for me to manage long hair I usually curl it and I am not able to at this time. So I had to make the choice of how short to go I went above shoulder bob style and am really loving all the cool styles I can accomplish I have been watching your videos for about 2 months now and I have to thank you because they really helped me make the change to short hair. I still need to master the curls and waves and how to put product in my hair now I have never had to because I always had 80s big hair and all I needed was lots of hair spray ...lol.. but I will continue to watch and follow along to get all the cute styles you show.... thanks again
You did a great job. My Mother used to do that to my hair when I was young. This was the best way. However I will not divulge how old I am :). And Yes I slept in the rope curls. It was great!!! Thanks for bringing it back!
You’re gorgeous inside and out. I love your attitude and your patience showing this stuff ‘cuz for some people it’s hard to understand, like me with epilepsy and brain damage so I really appreciate it. I’m not having to pause every 20 seconds and rewatching about 10 times lol. Also a big thing I really like about your videos is although the video may not pertain to me (ex: I have long hair so I’m still going to need to know how to keep going) I still watch your whole video because of your soul and who you are. Put it this way for instance it might make better sense. If you did a video on something that only could be done by someone with red hair for instance, which I don’t and will never have, I would still watch it. Haha sorry I hope I didn’t drive you nuts with my sometimes weird thought process. Keep them coming. 💜😍
@Lisa Madigan I have a question hun. I was wondering how you get all your videos in separate playlists. I need to do that bad. I’ll subscribe to your channel so you can find me. 🙂
I have long hair, too. When I was a girl, my Mom used strips of old sheets. Each strip was as long as my hair length. She would hold one end of the strip near my parted hairline and wind a section of my hair around the sheet-strip, then tie the bottom end up to the top end...resulting in great curls. I hope that helps anyone with long hair. Good luck.
If you want to curl the back on the robe tie pull from the front then from the back and wrap in opposite directions. That way the back will be in the robe tie, too.
Thank you for doing this! I am working on how I want to imitate this on hair with no sides! If you want this to stay in between washes, use Redken 22 and redo the wrap daily with consistent size sections!
I do mine all the time. Hair is dry and I use no product. I sleep in it and have no issues. I twist mine tight and in the morning I have beautiful curls that last all day. If they're to tight for you, use your fingers to loosen them and spray some dry shampoo if you want volume.
I truly love how you demonstrated how to do this with a short hair style. I had to cut my hair ugh by numerous bad coloring and I have loads of bangs but shorter in layers than yours. I have been trying to style my hair every day different since I never had my hair this short since my days in the Army Basic Training in January 1995 ( did I really give away my age now?! haha) I love how you put the other half of that robe belt into a bun on one side and never thought of that when I saw a different video and tried it myself just using a stupid clip to hold it in the middle of my head! I am so physicked now to do it tomorrow after dah dah dada take out these rollers! haha You are so funny and witty to so I enjoy watching your tutorials because you make it fun too! Love your quote," Don't Judge me or I won't Judge you! That makes anyone feel comfortable to listen to you more!! *****'s !!
I saw a great video about this from another you tuber. I don't remember who it was. She started 100% dry and said just to leave it in for 2-3 hours. I tried it and it works!!!
I had great results with the over night method. I am going to use your pre blow dry idea for the top because I needed the volume on top. I had compliments on the look all day. It is worth trying.
Thank you for posting this candid tutorial! I just cut my hair and was worried this would not work for me. But you inspired me and I’m trying it tonight! Thanks for this. There’s not many videos on heatless curls for short hair.
When I was 10 I put my hair in a ponytail and did that wrap with a piece of white material! Pin at top of ponytail wrap the hair to end and then back up to top and pin securely. Sleep in it and next day you have a spiral curl all the way to end of ponytail! 🌹
Ugh this finally worked for me, thank you! Other videos the women have incredibly long thick hair and most us just don't have have that naturally so when is try it, it wouldn't work. But this did-thank you I've wanted this style forever but my hair doesn't respond when I heat style it
I'm so glad you found this helpful!💕 When you are styling with heat be sure to use products in your hair to help get styles to hold, this will make a huge difference!
Hi Jocelyn great hair tutorial ,robe curls look fantastic really great results, I will definitely give them a try, thanks again for sharing take care all the best Mary 🌻😘
Great vid. I just twist my hair using my own hair in place of the robe, then braid at the end. Way easier to sleep in and actually looks cool even in the braid itself.
I never understood how the braiding functions: I watch again and again but can't repeat it. I am surprised everybody finds it so simple. Anyway, she lost me at 4.19: How did she made it? Suddenly, something new happens, without explanation. And how the first par of the braiding ends at 6.54 is unclear, we can't see it. The result is great, but sadly I can't understand.
@@Marlene-ou5ol me too I have disabilities and I wish I could do it but I struggle to understand what's going on and people don't understand what I can't understand because they are mean and say things like it's all there in the video ☹️
This is amazing! I would have never thought of using a robe. I have seen posts on others using socks for this same thing. You just have to clip the sock in at first then unclip it after it’s set in the hair. Maybe to get those back hairs get some curls. I’m now going to try this too
Oh, I wish I had seen this video one week ago, before filming my last music video, hahahaha. I really tried to get a nice Hollywood look but only got messy crazy hair. Now I know what to do for the next one.
Arthritic neck makes it impossible to sleep on anything, can only sleep on one side, the other dizzy spells. But had to try it and for me used to long socks, then tried a lightweight chiffon scarf and knew the blow dryer was my friend, and it was nice, it will fall out but it was nice for a change. I've even contemplated heating the socks first. And then a touch of blow drying, not long, then wait an hour or 2 and pretty nice.
You are too cute!! Thanks for making the video... I know theyre harder to do then 1 might think! 💞 I'm going to try this tonight. I've watched alot of these videos of using a robe belt. My hair is long. I'm going to try doing the top first so that there are curls coming from the top all the way down. Ladies we'll all have to play with it a few times to get it to work for each of us. I'm looking forward to hopefully getting away with doing this and not having to do my hair forever everyday!!
I haven't tried this but I've seen people doing this on YT 😁 I'm going to after seeing you do that 😂❤️ So grateful to listen to someone that doesn't take themselves too Serious 🙏. Thankyou and God Bless xxx
Had just washed my hair and was still damp as I started watching this - it’s now twisted up in my robe belt 👍 going to sleep on it and see what it’s like in the morning !
Fit Mission Makeup Jocelyn McClellan -hey it came out really well, my hair is about same length as yours so I didn’t wrap too tightly, wasn’t too bad to sleep in although as it dried a few little areas pulled tight but would definitely do again! Clipped one side back so that sort of hide back that wasn’t as wavy! Thanks for sharing the idea 👍
I have been using this method very successfully. Except, I put it up every night and put a satin cap over it. I sleep on my stomach, so that helps it stay in place. My hair is so gorgeous and easy to fix in the morning!
Oh is that long? I just saw your video while I am trying to find out how to curl short hair😃 so I found your video. No problem I will look around at Amazon. Btw you did really great for everyone. Thank you for prompt reply..
I think the back looked good! It didn't have to be curly to look good. Well done. Have you done any more videos using the robe belt after practicing more? If so, where can I find it?
I love it. Thanks for doing this video. Another viewer suggested bandanas so I'll try it with those since my hair is shorter than yours even. I'm growing it out and trying not to use heat on it. I'll try by letting it dry to almost just moist and drying the rest with the blow dryer like you did. I can't see myself trying to sleep with those bandanas in my hair. LOL.

She would hold one end of the strip near my parted hairline and wind a section of my hair around the sheet-strip, then tie the bottom end up to the top end...resulting in great curls. I hope that helps anyone with long hair. Good luck.
THANK YOU for doing a heatless tutorial on SHORT hair!
You look great with curly hair! Center part is my favorite look.
Thank you!!
Looks awesome. I prefer it on the side parting😍
If you want to curl the back on the robe tie pull from the front then from the back and wrap in opposite directions. That way the back will be in the robe tie, too.
thanks for sharing Carol!
I think it ALL looks super cute. Even the back!
Great tips!💕 Thanks for sharing!
Good idea
I truly love how you demonstrated how to do this with a short hair style. I had to cut my hair ugh by numerous bad coloring and I have loads of bangs but shorter in layers than yours. I have been trying to style my hair every day different since I never had my hair this short since my days in the Army Basic Training in January 1995 ( did I really give away my age now?! haha)
I love how you put the other half of that robe belt into a bun on one side and never thought of that when I saw a different video and tried it myself just using a stupid clip to hold it in the middle of my head! *****'s !!
Awww thank you!
Fantastic!
Thank you for posting this candid tutorial! I just cut my hair and was worried this would not work for me. But you inspired me and I’m trying it tonight! Thanks for this. There’s not many videos on heatless curls for short hair.
Aww! I am so glad
When I was 10 I put my hair in a ponytail and did that wrap with a piece of white material! Pin at top of ponytail wrap the hair to end and then back up to top and pin securely.
Sleep in it and next day you have a spiral curl all the way to end of ponytail! 🌹
Aww I LOVE that!💕
Ugh this finally worked for me, thank you!
Looks pretty (your color is gorgeous). Side part makes it look more "glam" vs everyday.
This is the first video I’ve seen of yours and I’m so glad UA-cam recommended you!! Love your personality!
Yay! Thank you!
Love it, my mum used to put rags in my hair when i was a child to creat ringlets using a similar system.
Aww I love that!💕
Thanks for showing this on your short hair! I've seen this all over, but never short hair 🙌🏻 Bless you!
You're so welcome Claire
I respect you for trying the first time so we can see!
Keepin' it real over here
Hi Jocelyn great hair tutorial ,robe curls look fantastic really great results, I will definitely give them a try, thanks again for sharing take care all the best Mary 🌻😘
Thanks so much 😊 You'll have to let he know how it goes!
Love your video!!! Your hair turned out adorable!!! Keep em coming, you are great!!!
Thank you so much!
Will try this as Im getting tired of blow drying. Just need a wash n wear n free hairstyle.
I really like the to of the front piece of hair to pull up on it for volume. I hate my hair to be flat at the part.
Really love your curl technique !!! Will try it ❤️
Thank you for doing this with shorter hair. Fabulous job.
You are so welcome Nicci!
Love it. I just don't know if I could do the braids
Great vid. I just twist my hair using my own hair in place of the robe, then braid at the end. Way easier to sleep in and actually looks cool even in the braid itself.
LOVE it!💕
So a French braid? Lol
I'm so happy I found this video. I will definitely try it tonight for tomorrow new years eve party. 🙏🤞🍾🥂🎉
I just found this video. I hadn’t heard of robe curls before. This was awesome! It turned out so freaking cute!!
I just cut my hair and we are hair twins! I can’t wait to try it! Use a diffuser on it
This is amazing! I would have never thought of using a robe. I have seen posts on others using socks for this same thing. You just have to clip the sock in at first then unclip it after it’s set in the hair. Maybe to get those back hairs get some curls. I’m now going to try this too
Thank you! OOOh that's a great idea!
Oh, I wish I had seen this video one week ago, before filming my last music video, hahahaha. I really tried to get a nice Hollywood look but only got messy crazy hair. Now I know what to do for the next one.
I love it. So adorable. I’m going to try it. Great job!
Let me know how it goes!💕
I will let you know!
I love this!!! Do you have a tutorial for this eye look? It is so beautiful!🤩
Loved the end result and will try
I think you're doing a great job! I'm learning from you. Can't wait to try.
Thank you so much I cut my hair to my shoulders and could not find any heatless curl methods
You’re welcome 😊
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your tutorial 😀 You have a Beautiful 😍 Style! Keep On Being FABULOUS 👌 ❤🎉
I haven't tried this but I've seen people doing this on YT 😁 I'm going to after seeing you do that 😂❤️ So grateful to listen to someone that doesn't take themselves too Serious 🙏. Thankyou and God Bless xxx
You are so welcome Catharine! Glad you are here.
I'd try using a heat diffuser on it, to avoid the dampness. Looks great.
Had just washed my hair and was still damp as I started watching this - it’s now twisted up in my robe belt 👍 going to sleep on it and see what it’s like in the morning !
Woot woot! let me know what you think!
You are so real love that!! You are fun to watch. Nice video
Thank you so much!!
Thank you, will give it a try when the weather's more sunny and isn't threatening to frizz it out in the rain, rain, rain!
The weather has been crazy huh?! Let me know how it goes when you try it!💕
This is great if you’re traveling and forgot a wand. Use the robe and dryer from the hotel or just robe tie overnight;). Looks adorable.
Omg so excited I have alot of very fine hair, it's so hard to find ways to do my hair.
You look so beautiful all the time, but I especially love this wavy look on you! Thank you for this video & have a great day!🌷
You are so sweet! Thank you gorgeous!💕
Shes so cute 😂 I love how excited she gets about it ahah! Gonna try this tonight :)
Hope you like it!
I love this!!!! I definitely want to try this!!!
Her hair is beautiful!
Thanks Debbie!
I have been using this method very successfully. Except, I put it up every night and put a satin cap over it. I sleep on my stomach, so that helps it stay in place. My hair is so gorgeous and easy to fix in the morning!
Very nice , let me try I cut my hair short last week. Where can I buy that robe
Thank you so much. I wish I knew for you. This video is a few years old. XO!
Oh is that long? I just saw your video while I am trying to find out how to curl short hair😃 so I found your video. No problem I will look around at Amazon. Btw you did really great for everyone. Thank you for prompt reply..
You are a great 'presenter!' Going to try this tonight. Wish me luck.
Aww you are so sweet! Let me know how it goes!
That is super cute Jocelyn!!
Thank you so much love!
Wow she is absolutely gorgeous with curled hair
Aw! Thank you so much!
the curls turned out great! looks good on you!
Thank you so much!
You're doing a great job and it's always fun to experiment
I love it on the side.
Do you have tutorial for makeup? Your eyes are perfect!
I think the back looked good! It didn't have to be curly to look good. Well done. Have you done any more videos using the robe belt after practicing more? If so, where can I find it?
Love it!! Looks so pretty & you have such a fun personality ❤
Thank you so much!!
I'm trying this now. Because you made me see t that even hair that's not so long will look amazing. Thanks... wish me luck!
Totally going to try this bc I suck at curling the back of my hair.
Yes! Please do and keep me posted on how it goes. Be sure to reach out if you have any questions. XO!
It is a beautiful result. Definitely will try it.
LOL.
What a great idea! Keep me posted on how it ends up.
Absloutly amazing will try it on my long hair by using 3 robe on line to the back its SO BEAUTIFUL
YESSS! Keep me posted on how it goes.
@@jocelynmcclellan definitly my love thank you for replying to me you are beautiful, god bless xx
@@jocelynmcclellan to update, I used one of kevin murphy hair products for curly hair all his products are absloutly amazing, I also used the 3 robes on lines over my head the ones with metal inside the ones that help you to creat a bunny ears but they are robes and dry it with cold blow dry not hot and they were absloutly amazing, now I do not know what am doing with my curly irons thank you beautiful
So cute, glad I came across your tutorial. Will have to try this.
Yeah! So glad.
