That's something that I can't wrap my mind around. Most people just use phones for scrolling social media, yet they are more than willing to shell out four figures for a device to do that on.
I get most people aren't tech savvy, but when a $300 Chomebook can perform that same task, but with a much larger screen and probably better battery life, you'd think people would smarten up to buying flagship phones all the time.

Apple said Lightning will be the port for the next decade. That's why they kept it for exactly one decade. When Apple does stuff, people get extremely annoyed. Every time and no matter what. That's why Apple is playing really really safe here and that's why they kept it so long and not changed it after only 5-6 years.

the double tap finger gesture for the apple watch isn't new. I haven't watched the keynote so idk if they actually advertised it as "new" but I've been using it for 2+ years already. It's an adaptive gesture so its function is contextual. I mostly use mine to pause/play media, it's SO freaking useful. A couple weeks ago I was doing house work (painting mostly) and had dirty hands or was wearing dirty/wet gloves. I had my iPhone playing through a bluetooth speaker and anytime i needed to pause, just double tap my finger to my thumb and boom, music paused without touching a single device with my grubby mitts! It's freaking awesome. And there are way more gestures too with clenching your fist/tapping fingers but I only use the simple double tap otherwise it gets a bit overcomplicated and less useful
But yeah sick feature (but not new lol)

My guess was actually the opposite, that you don't accidentally trigger it while grabbing the handlebars but instead don't even have to let go of the handle bars to trigger it intentionally. Guess someone needs to test it.
Also now that you say it, you might actually accidentally trigger the action when switching gears or braking.
Btw pretty sure the apple watch, like many other smart watches and heartbeat sensors uses light to shine through the arm and look at movements in veins and muscles, they probably use that for the gestures aswell.@@0q2628

I haven't used a cable for data since ios got over the air os updates and added backups to iCloud. This is probably true for most users, especially the non-pro/max/ultra (whatever suffix they are calling it) model ones.
Lightning was basically a precursor to the USB-C design. It was amazing compared to its contemporary, mirco-usb. Lightling lasted about the same length of time that the 30-pin dock connector did, they were due for a change.
I still say the USBC cable ecosystem is a mess. They never adopted clear labeling or color coding of what a given cable's capabilities are. 480/5/10/20/40 Mbps, 4/8k dp, 30/60/100/240W power. And the more capable cables linked thunderbolt have very chunky connectors that are awkward sticking out from a phone by up to an inch. The reason the lower-tier iPhone 15's got USB 2.0 is because it is using last year's chip, which was designed for Lightning and included a USB 2.0 interface in that chip. The new A17 Pro was designed knowing it would be on USB-C and received the upgraded USB 3.0 interface. When the lower-tier iPhone get a new chip next year that is newly-designed for USB-C, I (nearly) fully expect it to also receive USB 3.0 speeds.
I say "(nearly)" because this is Apple we're talking about. If a newly-designed chip for future versions of iPhone/iPhone Plus continues to have USB 2.0 speeds, then we'll know it's a conscious decision on Apple's part. But for now, looking at the specs of the current-gen models, it makes sense why some have USB 3.0 and others don't right now.

Even the measly 20w or so charging apple allows now drains peoples battery health to 90% or so after a year of use (see a lot of 14 pro max’s around 90% health while mine is at 100%). Underrated comment! Lightning is virtually indestructible other than the contacts on the cheap cables wearing through the gold plating and oxidizing/burning out. The strip inside USB-C is very fragile and can easily be damaged by debris or an unlucky intrusion from stuffing something in a bag or whatnot. It is still orders of magnitude better than micro USB. Personally, I wish that the STYLE of plug of Lightning had become the standard. Simply for longevity of the port. I want to reitterate that I mean STRICTLY the style. The fact it was a straight forward male plug, to a female port. No random little nub in the port to have damaged. Things get jostled and you don't have to worry about that nub getting wrecked. That said, things becoming a universal standard, is VERY much a win. Again, I just did like how with Lightning the main port issue you had to worry about is gunk getting in there, and it was easy to clean out should it get gunked up. With USB-C you do have to be a lot more careful to, again, not destroy that nub if things get gunked up. And to say again. it is just the STYLE of plug that I will miss with this change. Nothing about performance.

cleaning gunk out of USB-C ports is way easier as on USB-C you only have contacts (copper plates you can't really damage) and no springs, so you won't damage anything. With Lighting, cleaning the port is pretty hard to do (especially for "normal" people) in terms of requiring to be very careful and maybe even skilled.
I would use a simple paper clip and maybe some IPA to clean out USB ports if I had to, I couldn't do that with lighting without killing contacts.
That said, I only ever cleared gunk out of other peoples phones and never had any gunk myself... Neither had I broken ports even though a friend had his Samsung USB-C broken (also a gunk candidate) and replaced by warranty His "new" one has gotten a bit loose since and didn't made proper contact until I cleaned it.
For those smarts who'll come and say that even USB-C got springs inside, yes they do obviously, but it's on the cable and not the port. I'd rather replace a cable than an entire device.

    • @Raja995mh33

Apples chips are always designed for EXACTLY what they need. And they didn't need USB3.0 support on the 14 Pro and that's why the 15 doesn't have it...
Next year they will support 3.0 because then Apple will most likely update the 16 and 16 Plus to the A17.
The USB3 support on the iPad Air 4 can have a lot of reasons, first one being that there is much more room to work with in the iPad so they could easily include a dedicated, extra chip outside the SoC to do this. On the iPhone it's not so easy to just include another extra chip there
(which is also the reason why the Pro still maxes out at 1TB - there is no space for a second storage chip and there are no 2TB chips yet).

It's also kind of stupid how the latest iPhone won't support the same speed as your latest MacBook but limit transfer speed instead. The USB2 in the iPhone 15 is completely embarrassing in comparison to any other smartphone with USB-C. But the point that even the iPhone 15 Pro Max will limit transfer to or from your MacBook doesn't make any sense.

    • @jonevansauthor
      @jonevansauthor 11 місяців тому +1

      @@TheJackiMonster USB 3 can be 5, 10 or 20 gbps and USB 4 is 40 or 80 gbps.
So there's lots of room for them to move. Honestly 80gbps is probably pushing it, and not really worth worrying about too much.
There is an issue with the cables themselves. They get pricey if you want the highest power + highest data + length from USB 3/4 and they get thicker. A three meter cable is great if you're in bed and want to be charged, but you wouldn't want it for transferring data at your desk obviously.
I think they'll weaponise it though and use it to push adoption of the next gen Mac laptops and desktops/M3 chips along with iPads and iPhones of course.
What makes practical sense on your phone to get all your video/photos off after a holiday so you can do the modern equivalent of making your family look at a photo album is another matter.

As impressive as the tech in the pro max is, 1000 USD is just exhorbitant even with all the awesome feautres. For me at least I have learned that I prefer different devices for different uses rather than draining the battery of one device for multiple uses, it also helps me be offline more which is something that is way better for my life.

Why do you guys always talk about Apple when a lot of phones are near or over a thousand dollars now. Samsung costs more than Apple, the ultra starts at $1200 and goes up to $1620 which is $20 dollars more than apple's maxed out iphone pro, and the Zfold starts at $1600 and goes over $2100 dollars. Also, it doesn't matter which side you're on, if you're consistently upgrading your phone through trade ups then you can save up to 800 dollars.

There’s no other phone with speed and ray-tracing features comparable to the iPhone 15 Pro, at any price. Don’t confuse price with value. It’s normal for any top dog product to cost more. Nobody’s forcing you to buy this if you don’t like the price, plenty of cheaper phones on the market

@@little_fluffy_cloudsAnd there is no need for this stuff on a fucking phone, this is just vaporware

@@lauraprates8764 that’s your opinion. Plenty of organisations out there will make use of these features for apps and use cases we can’t even imagine yet. If everyone had your attitude, we’d still be using bricks with buttons and 30 minute battery life.
