That's something that I can't wrap my mind around. Most people just use phones for scrolling social media, yet they are more than willing to shell out four figures for a device to do that on.
I get most people aren't tech savvy, but when a $300 Chomebook can perform that same task, but with a much larger screen and probably better battery life, you'd think people would smarten up to buying flagship phones all the time.

the double tap finger gesture for the apple watch isn't new. I haven't watched the keynote so idk if they actually advertised it as "new" but I've been using it for 2+ years already. It's an adaptive gesture so its function is contextual. I mostly use mine to pause/play media, it's SO freaking useful. A couple weeks ago I was doing house work (painting mostly) and had dirty hands or was wearing dirty/wet gloves. I had my iPhone playing through a bluetooth speaker and anytime i needed to pause, just double tap my finger to my thumb and boom, music paused without touching a single device with my grubby mitts! It's freaking awesome. And there are way more gestures too with clenching your fist/tapping fingers but I only use the simple double tap otherwise it gets a bit overcomplicated and less useful
But yeah sick feature (but not new lol)

My guess was actually the opposite, that you don't accidentally trigger it while grabbing the handlebars but instead don't even have to let go of the handle bars to trigger it intentionally. Guess someone needs to test it.
Also now that you say it, you might actually accidentally trigger the action when switching gears or braking.

I still say the USBC cable ecosystem is a mess. They never adopted clear labeling or color coding of what a given cable's capabilities are. 480/5/10/20/40 Mbps, 4/8k dp, 30/60/100/240W power. And the more capable cables linked thunderbolt have very chunky connectors that are awkward sticking out from a phone by up to an inch. Lightning was superior to ANYTHING that was out at the time in 2012. Micro and mini USB suck bad in comparison, they could only charge and do data, no audio or video, and micro USB is very prone to breaking. I'll even go as far as saying the 30-pin dock connector was superior to micro and mini USB, it could charge, transfer data, and do audio and video.

One time he let his phone die when we were over there and I had a car emergency on the way home (he was coming back later). They thought that micro USB was the same as USB C and were so insistent that they had a cable. They did not. They also recently installed an outlet with USB A ports and tell me that they have it when I plug in my USB C brick to charge things. I took a USB A to USB C cable and left it there, for future use. Whenever one of them gets a new phone, they will complain that it's a new cable (even though I have warned them several times). To be fair, they probably won't upgrade at the same time.

Next year they will support 3.0 because then Apple will most likely update the 16 and 16 Plus to the A17.
The USB3 support on the iPad Air 4 can have a lot of reasons, first one being that there is much more room to work with in the iPad so they could easily include a dedicated, extra chip outside the SoC to do this. On the iPhone it's not so easy to just include another extra chip there

yeh, lighting was dogshit cause it was propriatary, but it was an awesome conecter and super durable especshily compared to the micro usb or 30pin that it replaced.
if apple had just given the spec away for free to other manufaturers every phone would have had a lighting port.

i’m pretty sure they mentioned that they did improve repairability, at least marginally. supposedly the back glass is going to be easier to repair

Might've been worth mentioning the the USB C cables included with the pro models only support USB 2 transfer speeds so you'll have to buy another cable to fully utilise the 10Gbps that the phones support

Lightning was great when it came out. Micro USB was pretty terrible. I was constantly going through cables, and I am not rough on things. Lightning fit snugly without fragile little pins, and it being unidirectional was pretty awesome. BUT, all of those things were improved with the introduction USB C. I am honestly surprised it took them this long to adopt something they had such a big part in creating onto their most popular device.

Nothing to do with the content just thought it was funny.

i am SO GLAD they chose USB C instead of microusb as the standard. however, i do seem to have noticed that llightning does appear to be stronger than usb c, by the smallest but. idk if its just me, but ive gone through about 4 USB C cables in the 3 months ive had my new ipad, whereas iv onyl had 1 lightning cord in my 11 months of having my iphone.

The biggest advantage lightning had was being able to clean dust and dirt out of it easily. But now there's wireless charging so i guess it doesnt matter anymore

That is barely an advantage. I’ve had both lightning and usb c everywhere for years and never had to clean out any dust nor dirt from either. Apple just like making things more difficult.

Its 2023 wireless charging is still not universal on all phones, it's still slower than using a cable, and if you want to use something like Android auto or Apple carplay at least in Toyota cars/trucks you need a USB A to whatever your phone uses cable as the USBC ports are fr charging only, so the standards are still screwed up

@@clvn9ja when you work in a dirty environment every day it makes a big difference. Cleaning sawdust out of a lightning port is way easier than USBC that's not even an opinion. I'm not even saying apple designed it that way on purpose it's just better if that's your reality
