This is a technique I have been playing around with the last couple years. Was not happy with my rod or reel. I now think I have found the right set up with a limit creek 8.3 telescoping rod and Johnny Morris® Signature Series Spinning Reel. I like the spinning reel because of the wide gap between the line roller plus the line roller is larger then most as well. This is important to me because there is less chance for your bobber stopper getting stuck and losing your depth position. Extremely happy with the Creek limit. Great action with good backbone. I love your set up. I do it the same way for the most part. I have been doing the plain hook with split shot. Your right, it does have a tendency to foul up sometimes. Will try the plain tungsten jig.
I use a 9’ medium Ugly Stik as my main slip bobber rod and like it more than a 7’ rod. I would have added that a higher speed reel helps get all that line when you’re going to set a hook. I use a Piscifun Viper 4k which has a 6.2:1 gear ratio, and it retrieves all that line and gear fast.
Like the hi-viz recommendation; I also strongly prefer hi-viz braid, bright yellow. Helps me see the line bow in windy conditions among other advantages. Dark green or red is just hard to see. I think you need a bit of slack between the rod tip and the bobber so the fish don’t feel line resistance, but too much makes the hookset difficult. Hi-viz braid helps with that. Just my two cents! 😊
That’s valid. I like the drop speed a lot with the 1/16oz. Fast enough to hit the fish before they move along, but slow enough that the fish like it. I could see 1/32 being great
Thanks Jerry. I’m usually changing it based on the area I’m fishing. I try to have my bait be 3 feet or so above the fish. If I’m in 15 feet of water, that usually means I’m setting the bait about 8 feet below the surface
I actually shot a little video on my phone demonstrating how I hook the leeches, but forgot to put it in the video. I’m hooking them right below the sucker. Some folks go through the sucker, but I like to get a little more meat. You lose less leeches that way.
Try making one using 40-60lb braid and tying slip bobber knot (uni knot). I've had decent luck with that, and when you make them you can leave the tags long and tighten them up throughout the day
You forget to mention minners, it works pretty good bobbering, work good, especially if you fish Walleyes in lakes that are full of sunnys, crawlers and leaches don't stand a chance in some of the lakes we fish, they are everywhere.
Man, Walleyes have NOT been eating leeches for me. Crawlers, though still kinda slow, are doing much better. For leeches I find they like the black ones best and not the brown ones so much. You think jumbo are better than Large? Maybe that's my issue....good stuff! Also, no plug for the Lindy live bait jig??? My fave.
In my personal experience, I basically am always going to prefer the biggest possible leech. Black vs brown leeches can definitely be a factor some days
I have a problem with the boobbr stop catching on the spool of ther reel and this cause the ine to catch which results in a short cast . FRUSTRATING -- any suggestions . Thanks
My best suggestion would be to totally retie your rig with a new bobber stop. Just be careful when you’re putting it on to make sure the knot doesn’t get bunched up when you pull it tight
@@NickLindner my brother decided to toss some snacks out of the boat and a flock of seagulls ( not the 80s band ) chased us around the lake people on shore were pointing and laughing at us
With the quality of info and entertainment value of these videos, I don't know why you haven't hit a 100k already. Great content per usual!
Hopefully on my way!
Your videos are so entertaining! I swear between you and Brett I just crack up. Love it!
Haha thanks! We like to have fun out there
One of my favorite ways to fish! I picked up a few more tips Thanks!
Thanks for watching, Jered!
I have been enjoying your videos. Glad you switched from host asking others to fisherperson.
Thanks man. I will do lot of videos like that for Northland’s channel

I used to use the plain hook all the time. It’s night and day using the jig instead. I think you’ll like it.

Absolutely. Longer rods and faster reels are good assets in this setup

Nick, can you do a video on your electronics? What brand & why? And how you use your set up.
thank you,
For sure! I want to do that sooner than later
By the way, I really like your video's. I'm in Central KY (smaller reservoirs) w/ not large populations of wally's. Wish I lived in Minnesota! Thanks!
Heading up to Lake One in the BWCA next week and hope to catch a few nice walleyes! Your videos are super helpful, thanks dude.
Thanks! Best of luck in the bwca
Nice tip about the line issues using mono, braid, and fluorocarbon with slip bobbers!
Thanks Frank!
Lots of great content packed in this video. Nice job.
Thanks Marcus! Glad you enjoyed it.
I use fly fishing backing to uni knot a bobber stop to the braid. Durable, casts great and doesn't frey. About 5-6 turns max.
Interesting! I'll have to look into that
Another great video! Thanks Nick!
❤️🎣
Thanks Evan!
Love 1/32 oz jig with a small size bobber, love how leech move free..

Very informative video . Maybe I missed it , but what is your preferred distance from top of bobber to the bobber stop . Thank you

Thanks for the video, learned something today, How are you hooking the leach?

Point learned on the mainline!! I have used fluorocarbon and have noticed issues!! Will be switching over to braid.
Right on! Yeah, the sinking line is bad news.
Thanks for the great video very informative 🐟🎣🐟🎣
Thanks for watching, Doug!
Thank you so much for the info.
Glad to help!
Nick, what is your number one braid to go to? I have tried several different ones. I have braid on most of my poles. Thanks, Jim
I’m usually using Sufix 832. It works good for me.
Nice to have those Northland weighted bobbers for casting also.
They are nice bobbers for sure
Unfortunately really hard to come by up in Canada 😔
@@benoitlarin220 the non-weighted ones are fine, too. As long as you have weight below the bobber, it will fish and cast fine.
What brand of FFS/head unit are you using to get that nice color spectrum on your display?
It’s an LVS34 and a GPSMAP8610. You don’t need an expensive head unit like that to get a nice return
Still looking to find a brand of stopper that works with braid!! Tom’s Tackle seems to be best I’ve found so far.
My best suggestion is actually to run two bobber stops if you're having problems on braided line. It's a weird suggestion, but can work.
Your right it does do a better job and its little to no hassel slipping on a 2nd one. Thought I was only one who tried it! Lol!
Do you find that rubber stops or ties work better, even if doubled up?
Try making one using 40-60lb braid and tying slip bobber knot (uni knot). I've had decent luck with that, and when you make them you can leave the tags long and tighten them up throughout the day
Great video

I did actually mention it later in the video! 👍
@@NickLindner Whoops, my wife and I were shucking and freezing peas I was listening with one ear as she talked in the other.lol.

Kind of off topic but how are you getting over 15 volts to your livescope?
I’m running off a dedicated lithium battery. You end up getting higher voltage with the lithiums
It looked like you were only down half the depth can you get it down to the 18ft where you were fishing
It doesn't need to be near the bottom. It's usually better a bit above the fish
What is the deepest water you will fish with this set up ?
No deeper than 30 feet.
What is the easiest way to set the depth and figure that out?
The easiest is sonar, otherwise, just using the length of the rod as a reference can be an easy way to know how deep you’re set
I have a problem with the boobbr stop catching on the spool of ther reel and this cause the ine to catch which results in a short cast . FRUSTRATING -- any suggestions . Thanks

Ever use artificial with scent?
I haven't played with that much.
Nice
Thanks Scott
Have you ever tried a plastic 4” leech?
Haven't tried it on a bobber.
I’ve used them on my drop shot and they work well. I would think if you would use a wobble bobber in a gentle to medium wind it would work well
how deep will you fish it?
Down to 30ish
its actually illegal to fish without having a beer .. scoops law
I’m not against a boat beer!
