- We deeply mourn the passing of our founding band leader, Teddy Kalanda, who peacefully rested on September 17th, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. His final farewell will take place at Mushrooms Villa, Kaloleni, Kilifi county.
Teddy Kalanda, alongside his brothers John Katana, Billy Sarro, and George Zirro, formed the band in 1972. He became a household name for writing timeless hits such as “Jambo Bwana,” “Nyambura,” “Ndogo Ndogo,” among many others. Beyond his songwriting genius, Teddy left a lasting legacy by mentoring countless artists and creatives, shaping the Kenyan music landscape.
While his loss is a profound one for us and for Kenyan music, we find comfort in the immense impact he had across generations. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has sent their condolences. As Teddy often said, one love for always.
