But, you know, other than the two *living legends*, he did as well as anyone else in the cast.
What I love about Jason is his enthusiasm... I feel he can be doing a commercial about the most boring thing and he'll bring so much passion to it and you'll be caught up into what he's selling even if you don't need or want it.

Jason Momoa best role... He really nailed it... there is something in the silence when he hear the first sound... he knows what his behind the door... He knows his faith... really, really great movie scene bravo.
Jason makes you believe he is Duncan Idaho, by the scene where he faces the Sardaukar. He knows that on the other side of that door, the deadliest, cruelest, most well equipped warriors in the Galaxy (he hasn't seen the Fremen fight as a group against the Sardaukar) are going to be coming and all he can think of is to get his gloves off, draw his weapons and get out there to stand between them and the people who he loves. You totally believe it and not for a moment do you think of Jason Momoa, all you see is Duncan Idaho the epitome of loyalty, courage and skill determined to kill these Sardaukar and buy time for his Duke and Jessica to escape.
Gotta love Momoa's appreciation for the sound work as it's one of the real highlights of the movie. The sound design and mixing teams did a phenomenal job!
Duncan was great but although I didn't like Rebecca Ferguson in Mission Impossible, and she's not particularly attractive to me, she was terrific, best actor in Dune.

Jason Mamoa exhibits the appropriate amount of enthusiasm at getting a chance to work with Denis Villenueve. He also happened to be one of the best actors in the movie.
I think I've only seen Jason Mamoa in Game of Thrones, Snyder's Justice League and now Dune. In each of those I do not see Jason Mamoa. I see Khal Drogo, Aquaman and Duncan Idaho. That means he's a good actor in my book. Good actors make you forget you're watching the real person, and they make you see only the character that they are playing.
Jason is kinda like a chris pratt type actor. Doesnt matter what role they are playing you want to root for them because they give off such a natural happy-go-lucky energy which seems rare in hollywood.
I love how Jason really appreciated Denis' very "Montreal" way of filming. This way of filming allows for flexibility and also improves creativity, just as Jason said.

I remember trying to read this book as a 16 yr old. It was so complex I got lost in it. This movie is amazing and brought it to life. It was so complex but I understood it all.
Duncan's respect for the Fremens after being sent in as a scout was just so enlightened. It makes you think about how different the world would be now had the explorers shown the same level of enlightenment and respect for the natives. South Africa would not be a third world country. Makes me think of the premise of Pocahontas also.
The novel has even more overt themes of colonialism and the ravages of industrialisation on indigenous and individual freedom, and the story is even more focused on the environmental themes. Herbert was so far ahead of his time, and built some pretty impressive allegories into his stories.

I personally will go and watch it on IMAX and then HBO Max with my family not only because I love films, but also respect Warner Bros.

The knife fights, the shields and the ornithopters looked so perfectly imagined from the books. I wan't the second part. I hope it gets made. Duncan and Gurney were perfect.

Couldn't have pictured anyone else more perfect to cast the role. In fact, I could already see Momoa as the "ghola" version of Duncan Idaho in "God Emperor of Dune" especially when Leto II party got ambushed on the bridge and Momoa came back stark naked.

I'm reading Dune Messiah again at the moment and I now picture every member of the cast as the characters - that's how good the casting was IMHO

Saw it last night. It is Epic. The score, the ornithopters, the cast...just...no words. And yes, as others are saying, Momoa is perfect as Duncan Idaho.

the movie was nothing short of a masterpiece, it was mesmerizing and wonderous. i wish i could get to see the part 2, but, atleast i got to see the first one.
He totally nailed it and also has a chance to come back a few time if they keep going past the 1st couple of books
