Did my best and kept scripting this video over and over. Finally decided this was the best version. I know won't make everyone happy, but I hope this is a video to help you go through a logical journey to find the input that makes most sense for you and analyzing just things at a high level.
I'm taking a break from apex atm, to learn controller on different games without the pressure. I switched at 700h of apex from keyboard to an azeron cyborg and i know it took me 400h to be at the same level again, now i'm at 2700h and can say with confidence it was worth it. I'm much better with the azeron. Now i know how much time i need, to get comfortable on controller. I never played any game before on this input and i'm excited for this journey. I did hundreds of hours of aimtraining on mnk, i love the grind! This is really a good video, thanks for your positive approach towards this discussion!
i like mnk because every time i get a kill on controller i feel dead inside lol it feels like i didnt even do it, one second im not hitting, next its an automatic one clip. when it comes to WATCHING apex, i have to watch mnk only, you see one pro roller player youve seen them all. mnk content creators you can easily see their personality in their approach down to the little freak out shakes in stressful situations.
I have about 15 years experience playing shooters on controller (Halo CE - Call of Duty) but switched to MnK once I built my first computer and have been using MnK primarily on Apex throughout the 5 years its been out. I switch back and forth between inputs basically whenever I feel like it. I find that certain legends play better on MnK and certain playstyles lend themselves better to controller. I feel like I can do a lot more with certain legends like Wattson and Pathfinder on MnK. When I play more ape-like (push everything) I like to run a controller and use Horizon or Revenant. The game is fun on both inputs. I don't feel at a significant advantage on either right now especially after the last aim assist adjustments on PC. Side note: sometimes I'll play hybrid when playing controller like I'll swap to MnK mid match to accurately place an ult or hit a kraber shot
Switched to mouse and key a year ago for other games that require it and fell in love with it. I occasionally play it on apex as well but not as confident as controller. I'll get there eventually though and make the full switch
Life long controller players but started taking MnK seriously about 2-1/2 yrs ago. Ive been aim training and focusing on scenarios specific to the games I play and for me...MnK is just more enjoyable. Sure, I lose some fights I would *probably* win on controller but the satisfaction of winning those fights on MnK is much more enjoyable (from a FUN viewpoint). When im on controller, I almost feel like I have to 'sweat' vs MnK its like, my skill helped me win, or I lacked the skill to win a fight. Its that binary for me on MnK. Like you said, Fun has become my primary pursuit over gun fight wins. I would encourage everyone to do the same. Find what you enjoy and go with that. Understand the pros and cons of both and learn to accept those pros and cons.
I have been using both for 30 years exessively(even if controllers weren't exactly what they are today back then) and I love both - from the bottom of my heart. That said, I still don't think it will ever be fair comparison. A mouse will always be a shortcut as you can instantly move to a position. position is translated to position... period. That is really all there is to understand and it's the argument that ends the discussion. A stick will translate a position to a motion. You set the vector and you determine - to a degree the velocity, but only once you've done that, a crosshair - or whatever you're controlling will move to where you want it to go. Some people don't understand that, so here is what you need to do. Move your mouse one inch to the left and leave it in that position. Will it make you spin endlessly? No! Your crosshair will already have arived at - exactly that position. Wanna get there faster? Move faster. Now move youru joystick one milimeter to the left. Will your crosshair have arrived at the desired position then? No, it won't. In fact, if you leave it there, you will spin forever.... and you will only spin in that direction and at that velocity, after you'll have moved it there. So that's where the "accuracy" discussion in terms of aiming ends. In terms of motion, you'll simply have to understand that the mouse also makes up for the "only 4 directions", newbies usually complain about. The right hand controlls every direction you want to move in. Once you've gotten the knack of it, you can precisely move along any line - no matter how curvy and windy. That said - do I prefer mouse and keyboard over a gamepad? No, not necessarily. I really love gamepads, and in single player games, I will only swich to mouse/keyboard in certain scenes. I love the relaxed way of gaming. I might have owned 20-30 gamepads in my life and I also might have spent more time playing games with a pad than with mouse and keyboard. Not because of accuracy, but because it feels good.
I've been playing video games for 35+ years, both keyboard and mouse and controller. I grew up on both consoles and pc. I prefer mouse and keyboard for aiming and for inventory management, but I have carpal tunnel syndrome and don't want to make it worse. I have gotten out of practice on controllers and want to start using them again for more comfort and less pain. There are some games I enjoy more on controller too, like Monster Hunter. I tried mouse and keyboard for bow in MHW and it was weird.
I can use both moouse and keyboard, but in most games i tend to find myself leaning towards controller. (unless its a building game and i have the option for mouse and keyboard). having all the buttons close by and not 50 million combinations you COULD have is a bonus for me.
I recently switch from mnk to controller for about a month now. Inspired is the correct word to use, since I show no improve meant on mnk now on whatever I do I took another challenge. Yes, the controller turned me into a gold player from a master player. But I do enjoy playing on controller more. Some fights I knew that I would 100% lose on mnk, I won on controller which is weird to me since I am still a bot. I would say after losing all my mnk powers, long range, tap strafing... I still like controller. The only downside for controller in my opinion is that the hardware technology is far behind MNK. Would like to have better gear since MNK there is tons of good stuff out there. (1 month controller, 27 years of MNK)
brooo finally someone said it!, i've been having same thought about controller for a long time... hard to find one that really suits your preferences & also budget wise i think controller don't really measure up to their prices
FPS, K&M, 3rd person adventure games, Controller. It depends on the game. Some games have clearly been designed around controllers in mind. I can adapt to either.
I truly believe choosing either mnk or controller depends on type of game Most games are developed to be played “optimlly” with one of the inputs and forcing yourself to play with the other input wont give you the gaming experience you were hoping for
personally, i grew up on both. I have a gaming family but we grew up im poverty. I had a hand me down computer which i watched youtube on or played Lego Worlds but i was obsessed with Minecraft on my 360 and id play it everyday from 2016 till the villager pilliger update where they cancelled updates to the console. I feel like xbox is easier to have a faster reaction to as you can pull a trigger to start shooting compared to mnk where you already probably swung into 5 different dimensions, if youre jumpy like me, and have to orintate yourself again. Im good with both but i feel like mnk is a huge use in everyday life and its a skill thats used in anything these days.
ngl very much along the lines of what I expected to here from you when I saw the title. pretty much agree and is close to what I tell people when I get asked. I've been playing mnk for over a decade and have never played any shooters on controller. So good or bad, and me being good or bad mnk is my only option :P plus for apex I love my scroll wheel, lurch tech and movement in general
The reason i switched to k&m after 20 years of controller (masters player on controller) is once i got a pc i simply could not keep up with the insane movement octanes and wraiths. They are impossible to track with 4-3 linear. aiming reaction time is much quicker with a mouse and i soon hope to learn movement and can overall improve at the game. its very hard switching nut I'm determined to keep with it bc i want to be good and exceed my controller skill level.
I think its more game specific for example. Call of Duty Warzone, team death match etc Controller is better no question, the game was designed around and for a controller its a console game. Now if anyone has tried to play say PUBG or Day z on there Xbox or PlayStation with a controller after playing it on a PC again you can tell and feel the aiming mechanics looting etc was designed around a mouse and keyboard. Just my opinion but whatever the dev's designed the game for is the input you should be using if you want to be the best anyway. For fun choose what you like because that's what its all about at the end of the day having fun. I mix it up for example ill play console based games like The Last Of Us, GTA and Fifa with a controller and ill play PC games like Squad, Pubg and Day Z with mouse and keyboard.

It takes time and effort, the question I ask in this video. Which do you enjoy more to put time into? Trust, I have seen people on both inputs achieve amazing things. Nothing can skip time investment and hard work behind it. But you can speed it up by actually enjoying the input.
