It was amazing how the actress who plays the younger Lila is so much like the 18 yr old Lila. Both of them are very talented. Both convey intelligent and strong personalities. Great series.

Neither Lila nor Lenu are intelligent, they keep making bad choices in men.
Oh Lila, the struggle you have to go through. It’s so unfair
I know. She appears to be dreadful sometimes and yet, all of them use her. Even Lenu. Without Lila she would never have had the confidence to get educated. It was Lila that boosted her. The father, the brother, Stefano the Solaras..they all need her intelligence, her force and yet what does she get from it? Niente!

@@acechadwick They all try to choke the life out of her - first her father, than Marcello, then Stefano, then Rino, then Michele, so she fills Lenu's life with her own because it's the only place safe for it.
@@acechadwick i mean just because she boosted her doesn't mean Lenu was using her... That's just what friends do. Also I reckon Lila wasn't always a really good friend to Lenu (though I don't remember much because i haven't seen the series in a pretty long time)
I already read a half story of this in a book. But I didn't expect that the movie will be this good. Wow, its a masterpiece. I love it.

المسلسل يقهر كيف انهم كل شوي يروحو مع ولد وفي ثانية بس يغيرو رائيهم يربيييييييييييييييي يقهرووووو مرهه خصوصاً الشخصية الي اسمها نينو يقهر برضو ويقول وش؟ يقول ما يبغا يصير زي ابوه و ابوه برضو يقهر وكل الولاد ينرفزو في المسلسل.

I renember the fist time i saw sophy lorenz in a movie , she was washing her clothes in a river , we know the eyetalians dont use dryers , but do they have wash machines
I do hope you're a huge troll, but whatever, I can afford to spend some minutes answering this... I don't know how to define it.
We do have wash machines. Many have a dryer. Mine doesn't. It is a waste of energy, especially in the summer, when you can use the heat to dry 'em. If you need something to be washed and dried quickly, you go to an automatic laundry.
This movie is settled in the 50's and in a rione none could possibly afford a wash machine. They couldn't even send their children to school, let alone the idea of something like that.
SophiA LoreN's movies were settled in those times too.
Plus, an "expresso machine" is a moca. The price is 20 euros,even less if you take a cheaper one. A wash machine costs ten times that if you're lucky. And i won't even correct how you write our nationality for that is what made me believe you're trolling.

It is really a pity, and it is sad, that one of the most important, and well known, Italian writer wrote a book which speaks the whole time about envy, cursedness, hate, wickedness, competition, violence against women and that such a book as such a big success. We should think about the level and standard of the culture today.
Why do the eyetalians always hang their clothes from a window sill or bacony , instead of buying their expresso machines , go buy a dryer.
because with the heat the clothes dry in 5 minutes no need to waste money for a useless dryer , like wasting money for sun cream in England
American? When you dry white clothes in the sun they get really white, color clothes smell fresh, it's faster, cheaper and better for environment. We have good wetter in Italy... We can afford.. :)

This was in the 50's
It was very common to air dry clothes off balcony esp in the 50s. Most residents in the series were poor/lower class. Why would they waste money on a dryer when air drying is free
