I use beetroot mixed with carrot juice as blush and only the beetroot as a liptint. it works great and is almost waterproof so great for summer. Also, using corn starch as face powder works better than rice floor cause is a fine powder.

My grandmother used to fill in her eyebrows with a burnt matchstick and used to wet red paper to stain her lips. I tried the burnt matchstick trick and it works like a brow powder tbh.

instead of rice flour, arrow root, cornstarch or safe baby piwder can be used as face powder. just crush instant coffee very fine for color, cocoa powder or both for the right tint.
If you want the beet stain to be more long lasting you want to make dry dye out of it and put it in an oil and alcohol blend (with some wax and a little of some weak acid or weak base to adjust color), and apply that. It'll be a tinting lip balm, that you easily can reapply on the go.
@@Call-me-Al This sounds complicated. I'd have no clue how to make a dry dye out of beet juice (just leave it in the sun to evaporate?), and I'm not comfortable dealing with any acids. Even with lemon juice it could erode and damage the sensitive skin on your lips!

I have the capsules from the vitamin aisle. just open a capsule,put a tiny bit in the palm of your hand,add a drop of water, use on cheeks and lips. capsules never go bad since it's a dry powder.i have also just keep a beet in the fridge,used a thin slice in an emergency.

I saw ancient Egyptian eye liner in the museum a few days ago. It was a tiny little ceramic pot and a stick /brush, and looked just like the little pots of gel eyeliner and brushes you can get. Except the little pot was beautiful, not just plain glass or plastic
Yeah but it feels heavy no matter how little you apply it. Well, you can't feel it after apply it but 2 hours later you will. Unless you are sleeping then it won't feel heavy since you close your eyes.

Rice flour is worn all over the world by different cultures as a face powder, if you've ever seen pictures of people fro East Asia (specifically places like Myanmar) with white or yellow circles on their cheeks it's probably rice powder they're using. Some people claim it gives some sun protection but you should never rely on it. It's an incredibly old form of makeup, but it does often look kinda gritty tbh.

@@shannarafryer3111 kinda, it actually isn't that bad though. I wouldn't say it's good as modern-day mascara, mostly it was to see what it was like. It doesn't really melt though, at least not nearly as bad as coconut oil or something. I had to microwave for quite a bit if time to get it to melt and become a smooth texture actually. the castor oil will also make your eyelashes grow thicker and longer, and the anti bacterial agent in it cures any eye dryness or irritation too. Also is a skin emolient so it helps prevent wrinkles and keeps pores clear.
It’s fine because it’s just the once for this video, BUT charcoal has sharp edges even when it’s ground finely and can cause tiny scratches on your eyes. And Vaseline doesn’t break down fully so it can clog pores and tear ducts. Of course, they didn’t know that in WWII, lol Love this video! It turned out so pretty! I appreciate your research and willingness to try these things for us :)
@@theonlyenekoeneko if your skin already takes well to coconut oil, then yes. Some people get a lot of breakouts from coconut oil, while for others it is the best moisturizer. It depends on your skin a lot, like if you lose protein from your skin easily or not, what your sebum is like, what your hormones are like etc.
In Asia for DIY eye makeup they use specially made soot instead of coal. (Just be wary of buying traditional style mass manufactured Asian kohl because lead is part of traditional ingredients, even the Egyptians used it). DIYing safe soot or buying soot/charcoal powder from reputable chemists and using it is the way to go - though keep in mind that loose carbon powders can be very explosively flammable so be careful until you have turned it into a paste...
Just an FYI, Bergamont is a citrus. the oils are photo-reactive. you should Never put citrus essential oils on your skin. it can burn your skin when it comes into contact with sunlight. like first degree burns bad.

Orris root was used as face powder as well, it was actually one of the ingredients I looked for for this video but I couldn't find it anywhere 😅 One webshop had it but it was ridiculously pricey

Mascara- aloe with charcoal and a bit of clay is great. My face powder- kaolin clay and cacao powder with a bit of non nano zinc.
One of my favorites is ancient Egyptian activated charcoal and olive oil mascara and eyeliner!

the cool thing about using oils and vaseline near your eyelashes is that they’re supposed to help them grow thicker and stronger so I hear 👀

In ancient China people used to use burned willow branches as eyebrow pencils. I tried it a few times, and it works quite well actually.
FYI "food grade" activated charcoal is available in capsules in pharmacy. Might be better for use in cosmetics.

just saying that for home made charcoal, soot is the best. It is purest and most hygeinic.

Not in colder climates. It's not the most long-lasting product in the world but it didn't melt off while I wore it in any case 😁

The face powder is from an era when they strived for pale, white skin. So it's not meant to match, just make you paler.
Depends on the era, but generally pigments were available at pharmacists. They'd be used for paint and dye, but also cosmetics

I've been using castor oil (great for lashes) and Vaseline (removes makeup well) on my eyes for years and never had a problem

Orris root might work as face powder. It was used in hair.
Orris root was used as face powder as well, it was actually one of the ingredients I looked for for this video but I couldn't find it anywhere 😅 One webshop had it but it was ridiculously pricey
