    Thanks for a great video Crystal! You did a wonderful job explaining the differences between pastel and muted tones, a lot of people don't know or understand the difference. And you're right, this is the only set of muted tones out there for the moment. It's nice to see Castle keeping ahead of the trends like they always do.
    When you say that they told you they don't know how they're made though, that's because they don't know how they're made lol. The customer service and the company itself are based in britain, but the pencils themselves, like all budget pencils, are made in a factory in China. So when you call customer service about things like how the pencils are made or what's in them, the only thing they're going to be able to tell you is generic terms like wax-based or oil-based. Which really means nothing, because all pencils are both, as we all know. However their customer service is wonderful for things like returns or refunds, and they're also great about things like art tips and tricks and how to do certain things with the pencils and their other supplies, because they have artists working for them. The guy who founded the company is an artist, unlike another company, that I will not name, that used to use the tagline "by artists for artists," until they got called out by people like me for not having a single artist on staff, including the founder of the company. But that's neither here nor there.❤
    I don't get along well with Castle pencils, every single set I've ever bought has been languishing on my shelves lol, so I probably won't be buying these. However if I watch you using them long enough, you know me well enough to know that I will end up putting them in my cart hahaha 🤣. As for muted tones, I can just make my own with a set of Prismacolors because they have the full range of cool and warm greys, as well as French greys in the 150 set. So while it's nice to have a novelty set of these on hand, I don't like the way Castle pencils work for me so they're not going to get pulled off the shelf much during my work. But I'm also lazy, so a set like this would come in handy on the days that I don't feel like blending and mixing, like when I'm just coloring for fun.
    Also, shout out to the little bio on Morandi and his work. I love love love love his work, and I really appreciate you explaining how he worked with color. I feel like nobody understood him while he was working, and most of the people who buy Morandi palettes think the name is a brand, not an artist. So thank you for that.
    Again, great video. Thanks for sharing it.

    Great idea to put together a muted tones/harmonious colour list for open stock lines like prismacolour and polychromos! I love tertiary colours, earthtones etc but don’t want to buy and store a whole separate set.

    I just got my set! Sharpening while I watch this. Check your junk email folder for the link to the coloring book, that’s where I found it. I thought I didn’t get it, either, till I searched all my mailboxes and there it was in Junk. 😏

      I'm not too crazy for their other sets, but out of all of them, I did like the Pastel Tint set best, and these laydown very similar to those.

    What paper is best for printing the coloring pages for the pencils?

    • @CrystalsColorStyle
      @CrystalsColorStyle  13 днів тому +2

      @flowerlady3150 Sorry, I don't really know what the best paper would be, especially since I just got them. I usually like to use a smoother type of cardstock, but everyone is different. One I buy a lot is the Astrobrights Bright White 65 lb cardstock.

    Hi Crystal 😊 I just ordered the Harmonious colors. I couldn’t help myself, the palette is quite unique. Since I was on the website I decided to finally give in and try their other colored pencil sets😂 I do have a question for you, did you use this new set of pencils when coloring the skin on this page?

      So this is a nice palette, and it's great to see a muted palette because honestly, there are SO MANY pastel sets out there. Nobody has, to my knowledge, offered a muted, grey-toned set.
      The reason Castle isn't going to answer your question about formula is because they don't know. Their HQ is in Britain but the pencils, like all budget pencils, are, as you know, made in a Chinese factory. So when you ask customer service in Britain about how these pencils, or any of their other pencils, are made, they're not going to know. Their customer service IS very good about returns, refunds, and other service issues, and they're also very knowledgeable about USING their art supplies. The people who started the company are artists (unlike Arteza, that used to use the tagline "By artists, for artists," but no longer do because of people like me calling them out for having not one artist on staff, even at the ownership level), and their quality control is quite good for what it is.
      This is a great video, very thorough in its explanation between the difference between pastel and muted, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE your little mini-bio on Morandi and his painting style. I don't get along with Castle pencils, every single set I've bought has languished on my shelf. So I don't know if I'll be getting these, but you know me, I'm also a pencil freak and if I stare at you using them long enough, they're gonna wind up in my cart. 🤣😭
      I DO love my Castle acrylic paint (the tubes), as well as their gouache tubes and most of the watercolor tubes (a bit grainy, but still decent student paint for the price). So maybe it's just me with the pencils because I see other people making beautiful art with them.
      Thanks for the AWESOME video.

      @robynbroderick6822 Hi Robyn 👋 they have the 120 square Brutfuner set on Temu. Here is the link: temu.to/m/uv40kgw4vp7 it shows a different picture when you first go to the listing but if you go to the 12 options and scroll down almost to the bottom of the list it has the 120 squares. Aliexpress has then too, you can just type in Brutfuner Square and a few different listings will pop up.

    Do castle arts pencils form blooms like prismacolor?

    • @CrystalsColorStyle
      @CrystalsColorStyle  24 дні тому

      @twingytwango6971 Sorry I'm not sure, that's not something I really ever have much of an issue with. Probably their original soft touch set with the black barrels might have that issue. I had a set of them but gave them away because I didn't like them and I do have their oil based Gold set and don't like those either lol. I like these more for the color palette but I just think they're ok quality wise.

      In the literature that comes with the pencils castle arts say that they do and suggest sealing the work to prevent it. I haven't used primas, I'm a Faber girl, I found these less pigmented, and much harder and shinier than my polys, or any other pencils i have

      @xXxAmyPalmerxXx they're not anything like a Polychomos imo, more like a prismacolor. These are wax based.

    • @CrystalsColorStyle
      @CrystalsColorStyle  15 днів тому

      @xXxAmyPalmerxXx 2 different companies. Polychomos are an oil based pencil and a bit harder. Typically, oil based is more known for layering, and a wax pencil is more known for blending together, especially Prismacolors. Both Prismacolor and Polychomos would be considered artist grade.
