Qualitative Coding for beginners - coding Surface vs Deep meaning

- Here I talk about coding the surface, or Explicit, meaning and coding the Implicit (Indirect) meaning when we code our qualitative data. In other words - we can create codes that represent directly what the participants say, or create codes that show what We Think what the participants say represents.

I have interpreted the first answer as ignorance and lack of awareness of what bullying is and how it harms.
Helpful, thank you 🙏🏾
You’re welcome 😊
@@qualitativeresearcher I think at the end of my PhD, I'll have to be peeled off from your UA-cam videos 😂💦 That's how dependent I have become. You make this journey so manageable. Thanks again for what you do 🙏🏾
Hi Dr Kriukow, I have a question. How do we know that we have code enough and not "over-coding"? I completed 1 round of coding and will start the second round hopefully by tomorrow. Hope to hear your advice soon. Thank you!
There is no way to say this :) As I said, it is always better to have too many codes than not to have enough, so the only risk in over-coding would be that you have more codes to clean up later
@@qualitativeresearcher Oh, I see, am clearer now :D and thank you for the prompt reply, Sir!
First of all, I want to thank you for your efforts to help us 🥰 than, I really need your help to answer some questions about my PhD thesis . I'm using a mixed method for collecting data for my exploratory research. I want to know how we use a diagnostic Test with both teachers and learners ?? And which tools will be helpful to me.. thank you in advance
Thanks for the explanation.
When I am doing this interpretative coding, how can I make sure that my interpretation is not biased or mistaken?
The detailed approach to coding that I described, in its nature minimizes the risk of researcher bias. I explain this in one of my videos in which I discuss line by line coding
