Elaine, My partner Christo turned me on to your playing. Thanks for harpsichord 101. As a surgeon, I am used to working standing up, an ergonomic approach to keyboard playing as well as operating. The verve with which you play is awesome. You bring times past to life. Musicianship does not get any better. Grazie. You inspire us both. We will be making more UA-cam clavi/harpsi/organ recordings.
Thank you as always, Elaine. Fascinating to compare your Hubbard to my Ross Flemish double. It is wonderful that you are making these videos, not only of your fine playing, but also of other matters related to the instrument. Keep 'em coming!
Thank you so much, Ms. Encomparone! This video answered many of the questions I have had since undergraduate school when I saw a harpsichord being tuned by a student. Bravo!
Elaine, Thank You so much for your cristal clear explanations. Also, for all the posts you send on UA-cam. Thousands BRAVO's for your fabulous interpretations and your work. By the way, You say "ravalement" perfectly well. An overseas admirer, Olivier.
Thank you very much, I love the sound of the harpsichord, and your explanations are absolutely wonderful, to help us know more of this beautiful instrument.
Elaine..looks...dark hair... wow personality...and talent...plus Harpsichords...my passion. The Taskin additive makes that instrument. What are these Hubbards worth? This is a top U Tube site.Thanks for your wonderful expose.
Thank you. I find your posts really interesting. I first saw your video of you playing "The Mysterious Barricades" and have been a fan ever since. You make the Harpsichord an accessible instrument to me and hopefully, many others too.
I've had the good luck to play in several instruments made by Mario Donadio who worked at Hubbard. I few weeks ago I just received my very own Instrument made by Mr. Donadio, it's a superb copy of Hass german harpsichord and I am studying the italian concerto. I am obssesed with this instrument and the music, it gives me happines and peace in my life. I could no live without a harpsichord.
Thank you for your explanation! I am an up-and-coming pianist and I am seriously thinking about putting together a Hubbard kit of a french dual manual. I hope If I do get the chance to get this beautiful instrument it will be an endless source of inspiration for me especially for baroque pieces (some of my favorite, yet I haven't gotten around to learning many )
you made what would otherwise be a boring educational video into something fascinating and well- presented. Forget pianos, I want a harpsichord now!! PS. i loved the sandwich part at the end... lol
Great video! I knew most of this through a bit of reading about the harpsichord, but I didn't know you could get so many combinations in one instrument, and I didn't know about the jack rail. I had wondered where the jacks were exactly, but I had assumed they were closer to the front. Again: great video!
@@ElaineComparone Hopefully that time will never come or at least be many many years in the future :-) I don't really have any ideas about that eventuality beyond selling it to a musician who can do it justice. Or, if you are wealthy, perhaps holding a harpsichord competition for young musicians (aspiring professionals) with this harpsichord as the grand prize ?
I love the sound of the harpsichord so much that when I've sung with them, I'll find myself listening more to what is being played vs concentrating on what I am singing. Part of me would like to try to play it, but I'm such a mediocre pianist I can't imagine what I would sound like on this instrument.
Its one thing to be a master on a subject, and its a COMPLETELY separate talent to be able to present and teach material on a subject.. I think we all can find examples of real-world-experts who try to 'teach' & sound like blithering idiots when trying to communicate their info to lay-people.. Not here --- Elaine, obvious, possesses both talents and she did a remarkable job sharing her passion in the video.. This video should be part of college music appreciation classes.. awesome!!
@harpsinth Dude what's your problem? You post repeatedly insulting comments. If you made your point once, perhaps someone could consider that you're trying to say something, but your fury and obsessive verbal attacks show that you're only being spiteful.
@harpsinth I feel sorry for you man. I guess that you were so good in Europe that you left for Brazil again... Western civilization started from Greece, the word Europe is Greek and you're nothing but a disappointed mediocre musician who gets noticed only for being malicious and envious. Why don't you post an answer vid of you playing? After all you've studied for so many years you must be a great player... (I doubt..)

The best part is that you can sense her passion for what she does.. Love it. Thank you.
Thanks so much your Scarlatti renditions are magnificent.
Such an epic instrument. I would love to have one of that. Would love to learn to play it too.

Old Frank Hubbard
Went to the cupboard
To get some harpsichord strings;
The cupboard slammed on his thumbs, and he cried:
"Ouch, my opposable things!"
Hallo, wie immer super symphatisch.
Thank you for you kind comment!
Thank you so much Elaine. That was a marvelous demo.

Magnificent instrument !!! And in very deserving hands :-)
Thanks for your comment! I'm trying to figure out how to provide for this instrument when I am no longer able to play it.Any ideas?

:) Glad it was presented so well. I put one up showing a close-up of the plectra.
In love with this video....
wonderful video, I wonder how much one cane expect to pay for a beautiful instrument such as this one?
Inspirational, surely to be a pivotal video in some budding harpsichordist's life

Could you play boogie woogie on that?
@harpsinth

You live in South America, I live in Europe... So, I think I know Europe a little
bit more.
