For context, just in case someone stumbles upon this clip. Abe is an academic professor who is seemingly tasked by the government to work on something important. The show is set in the late 50s-early 60s, so it's clearly something Cold War-related. And he *brags* about it a lot in previous episodes, because who wouldn't when the government needs your help? Thus, he wants to use his position to make them hire his son, and we get to this scene. Now, imagine how Abe felt like, when, after days of bragging about doing something important, he gets asked to get in a secured room... and is told that: 1) He is NOT important *at all* 2) His son is the one who ACTUALLY works on something classified and helpful 3) He is so useless that the *JANITOR* has more access privileges than him Abe gets humbled into oblivion in a couple minutes, and it is still so hilarious. The part at 1:44 is my favourite. Oh, and you know what's funnier? Since this show is about "the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" (who's Abe's daughter and the guy's sister), whatever is going on with this top secret thing is barely even acknowledged. This is the type of show that would take Chekhov's Gun and throw it at the window. This show spent more time dealing on "how will Mrs. Maisel dress like for this event" than to "what is her brother even doing for the government?"
I'm not at all familiar with the show this clip is from so I don't find it in the least funny. It is, in fact tragic. If, as was mentioned in another comment, Abe has been bragging about doing important secret research, that is a problem that should be dealt with. But, the whole tone of this is demeaning and dehumanizing. It is a shame that over the last several decades this is what has come to pass for humor.
The clip is out of context, Abe is the father of the title character as well and he can be overbearing and condescending toward his family so he needed some humility. It's actually a very funny and well written show
I keep coming back to this scene 😂 it’s just so funny and even better when they go at it again to fire Abe
I know, it just gets funnier each time!!
