  • Do you teach sight words or high frequency words in your classroom? Or maybe you refer to them as heart words or something else. Is there a difference between sight words and high frequency words?
In this video, I’ll go through what each of those terms mean. I’ll also give some ideas on how to teach high frequency words in your Kindergarten, first grade, or second grade classrooms.

Curious what your process is for teaching high frequency words is. Do you go over them daily? Weekly? Let me know in the comments!

What are your thoughts on OG? I was recently trained on it and am excited to try it out this fall.

I purchased this resource. How many words p/week would you teach? Would you repeat words until mastery or introduce new words and cycle back through non mastered worksheets intermittently? Would mastery be recognition or recognition AND dictation? This is end of grade K/beginning grade 1. Thank you!!!

Great questions! I usually introduce 1-2 words per week for that age. Introduce 1-2 more words every week but always review/cycle back with past words each week too. You may want to take a pause every 4 weeks or so and do a quick assessment to see which words students have mastered (and yes, that would mean reading and writing the word!)
