- In this video AJ unboxes the Associated Pro4 SC10 and goes over what you actually get inside the box. He lays it all out for you before taking it out for our usual bash test. Not only does he bash it, but he runs asphalt and smooth dirt to simulate a track environment. Then he brings this new machine back to the studio and goes over how things went, what broke, and what went right. Then you'll finally find out how this short course truck rates for our channel. I picked up a SC10 2 months ago. I am an Associated fanboi, plus I also picked it because the body looks more like a scale model Baja / Trophy truck than most R/C Trucks.
First thing I did was add a heatsink and fan combo to the motor... and changed the pinion from 15 tooth to 14. No overheating issues. I did have a handling problem of under acceleration the front would lift, go on 3 wheels and flip over if I turned too fast. Another YT video about suspension tuning suggested thicker rear shock oil. I talked to my local hobby shop and changed from stock 40W to 55W in back. The handling of the front end is greatly improved by adjusting the rear end!
I just got the pro4 sc10 and its been amazing compared to the price with a losi tenacity tt pro, the pro4 sc10 comes with sway bars come with a center diff, add a heat sink with a fan and switch the receiver add a gyro swap the servo and you're set. it handles amazing compared to the arrma senton and a losi tt and traxxas slash this one takes the W, you can spend more on the tenacity but the pro4 sc10 keeps up with it.

Thanks again AJ for a very entertaining review. I bought one for my 10 year old son and despite its flaws it's a great entry platform. For its price you get a fully tunable race capable truck which means you can still progress through the hobby learning setups and tuning just like other more expensive trucks.
A free tip to control squirrelly handling under power is to reduce toe out which is quite aggressive from the box. One can also play with shock lengths and preload to set the suspension for a more reward stance to transfer more grip from the front to the rear thereby reducing oversteer. There are a tonne of other setup options available to get the truck to behave the way you want to. One last mention is if your tyres are not properly glued you will have high speed tracking issues too.
The suspension is setup for the stock tyres and if you get tyres with more grip you'll need to setup the truck to control traction roll. Keep up the good work!

That's the big reason i bought this one over some of the others. I really like that feature. My tires where glued fine from the factory also. I am still very new to the hobby so my opinion probably doesn't mean much but it seems pretty well setup from the factory. I had a cheap 1/16 scale brushless before my SCT10 and the difference in how the SCT10 handles is night and day. Its just so much more controllable and it doesn't understeer nearly as bad, which I think has alot to do with the center diff

Hey AJ! I looked at trucks in this class when I was considering SCTs. I'm glad that I picked the Slash Ultimate over the others though. I had excellent results in following your advice about getting the sand out of those tires that I hadn't properly sealed and vented! Thanks again for helping out a new guy there my friend! And know that after I picked up my new Maxx, the very first thing I did was seal and vent those big tires the same way you demonstrated on the others!

The tires on mine have held up so far(Running 3S), but they're only good on a solid surfaces, there's absolutely no grip on loose surfaces.
Another reviewer mentioned that better tires and thicker diff oil did the trick.
Also it's not a slipper, it's a center diff.

I know this is an old video, but I think the other thing to take into consideration as it relates to your "value score" is that it's a sub $350 car. Comparing it out of the box with a Slash ultimate which is $500, is a little unfair. However, I do appreciate the review, and pointing out some of the issues that you may encounter with this truck, but for another $150 to $160 dollars added to it, I think it would be a real competitor to the ultimate and potentially surpass it in some aspects.
So true. He’s comparing a/ultimate that already comes with upgrades out the box and you’re right it cost like $500. His comparison was dumb. I have the team associated pro for. I love it. I can care less if it didn’t make his top 10 that’s his opinion

Its a 3 diff setup, exactly the same as the mt10, so a center diff, not a slipper, but good review buddy

Normally I don't comment on slip ups, we are human after all, I don't jump all over someone for slipping up like a lot seem to do these days, but in this case I thought it might actually put some buyers of thinking it's got a slippa instead of a centre diff

Okay, i completely respect the review is your opinion and what happened did happen, but we both know the shocks on this are the same as the MT-10. The MT-10 is one of, if not THE most durable trucks available right now. The point is, people will snap the arms off it and break the chassis in half before they break a shock.
You had a bad shock out the factory, should have emailed Associated as it is definitely a factory deformity in the thread or was cross threaded when built. Swapping the shocks wholesale is completely unnecessary and sends the wrong message about the truck. It definitely needs *some* upgrades but the shocks are way, way down the list.
Handling wise it is completley adjustable with triple sealed gear diffs and fully adjustable suspension so the box setup really isn't that important, but just 30k in the rear diff does wonders for it. A well setup one will eat a Slash 4x4 as the Slash doesn't even have a centre diff. 😂 The tyres are for a scale tread pattern and look rather than a high end performance. I suspect Associated figured that anyone looking to race this truck in an SCT class at their local track will already have a favoured tyre for the surface, and immediately bin the stock setup, as they would with ANY ready to run vehicle.
Excellent video apart from those points though, and you are spot on about the box/gyro discrepancy.
Great review! It seems like the seller and/or Associated should address the gyro issue. With it stated on the box, I would think they have an obligation to send you the equipment. With a gyro, the truck should compare more favorably with the Slash and its gyro.
I bought one and sent an email stating that and they sent me a gyro Rx. You have to go thru their support website.
I plan to buy this but at the end i bought Losi tennacity tt pro.
With a little extra price,it came with gyro,3 diff,aluminium chassis,lisenced race ready tires with lisenced wheel,130a esc,big bore shocks and lisenced bodyshell.
And i use it on my local race recently and manage to get 2nd place,competing with some of the prokit .

Hi! Did you end up trying the Pro4 SC10 with some good tyres? I bet you would be a lot more positive about the driving experience with 3s with a good set of grippy tyres. The factory set is very slippery.

From the descriptions I've seen online (Amazon, A Main Hobbies...) The 2WD sc10 comes with the dynamic vehicle control system and the 4wd does not. Perhaps Associated has updated the box?
Yes it should come with the XP-R4 “DVC” receiver. Weird it didn’t have it in there

Did you get the ultimate?
If better handling from a short course truck is what you're after then, in the UK at least, consider the FTX Zorro Brushless. It's dirt cheap compared to Traxxas Slash and has superior handling.
I have the zorro and the sc10 , the sc10 is way more durable but the handling on the brushless zorro is better . But the zorro is the car that I spend more time fixing , although the parts are cheaper the the team associated parts
Hey AJ! I have a question, is there any solution to fix the problem with the shock to make it not like a spring? And also would the 550 Mega granite shocks fit on this car?
Hey there love the channel and format of your videos! Really curious to know if you contacted associated customer support to inquire about the missing gyro? Is it possible you got an early release model that didn't have it or maybe it had wrong receiver installed at factory? I'd really like to know if this was a mistake or if associated is literally commiting "fraud" in their advertising? Let me know if you can, as I'm looking at this truck for a 4x4 sc truck and I want the gyro feature. I have the original sc10 2wd and it's been awesome and in my opinion has the most scale driving experience for a 2wd sc truck especially with that plush suspension. That's the most important factor in my RC decisions, is that scale driving feel. I respect associated's history and what they've done for the hobby and really hope they aren't falling the way of some other companies selling rc's from Asia. Keep up the great work(sorry for the long comment lol)
So how does it compare to the Traxxas ultimate? I can't decide between the two?

Just a heads up.
My center driveshaft started rattling around when above ~50-75% throttle.
It turns out the driveshaft is kept in place by a o-ring in each drive cup, and I've lost one of them.
So when my drive shaft moved too far forward/backward it would start shaking violently(Almost looked like a skipping rope).
It can be fixed by installing new o-rings(OD: ~6.5mm / ½"), I didn't have one, so I used a spring of the same size.

Tuning is really the issue here. Personally I prefer the Losi over the associated. But still a fun rig. I think a tire change will help with handling. 👍
Had high hopes for this truck since I had the SC 8.2e and loved it but I guess I'll be keeping my eye out for a different 10th scale Short course truck
With some love and attention I think this one might finally get there. The stock setup leaves a bit to be desired, and the lack of the professed gyro is a bummer, not to mention the cheap shocks, but overall with a few mods I think it might actually do alright. We haven’t had any issues getting parts.
Is this truck any good at racing or is it only good for bashing? I am very tempted to get this and start racing (don't have budget for anything more expensive).
Since we no longer partake in actual racing I can not speak to that issue. It handles pretty well and it is fast, but without knowing how fast actual race SCTs are perhaps that is a question best suited for the community to answer. Jump in here, guys, and help answer this one. Thanks, AJ

It doesn't have a gyro.
theres a loud buzzing once i turn my wheels all the way to the left, what could this be coming from and how can i troubleshoot it ?
It is usually the servo reacting to the pressure of binding at the end of the stroke. If your radio has a way to adjust the variable rate for the steering, that should help counter the problem. I hope this helps.

I’m personally disappointed with this video. My experience with the SC10 Pro4 was 10/10 this is coming from owning a Slash Vxl 4x4 and where I say slash is better for dirt racing when it comes to indoor clay racing. The Team Associated SC10 blows anything out of the water with a Hobbywing motor upgrade and a Servo. It eats slashes for breakfast I did experience the tire problem I had to Re-glue them but what people dont understand is that this truck was clearly made for indoor clay racing.
Center differential with light fluid in ALL THREE differentials paired with a 2s high kv motor on clay. This thing couldn’t be any better.

So you expected AJ to have an indoor clay track that he just hid from us for the past 5 years ?
Or maybe he'd build one just for this truck? Does it say on the box that it's an indoor clay track short course truck ? No. The manufacturer would be stupid to give it such a designation that would turn potential customers off from buying it. That's like buying a full size car to find out in the small print that you shouldn't drive it over 50 mph.
Have fun at your indoor clay track, I hope it's a big nice one, because it gets boring only having one location to drive in. Seems like the truck is a dud, especially when you have to put in a different motor and servo.
Just buy a roller at that point, a roller with better handling and a sound design, not a poorly engineered Faberge Egg that doesn't work unless you replace half the electronics and run it in one place that most people don't have access to.
What was it again? It only runs properly on a clay pigeon shooting range, because it's so well made that it's a jack of one trade and only the most specific and limiting tracks are appropriate for its delicate tendrils of jank ?
Sounds like a real winner, I'll really have to pick one up and take it to the local firing range, crash into some Clay Aiken Pigeon Flock of Seagull concerts. It'll be a "blast" if you get my drift.

The fact they they lied about what's in the box is just too much.
Ready to run garbage. I will never buy a RTR. Cheap shocks poor quality control and false advertising. The last issue alone should make it a zero across the board. high end rc should never be RTR.
i'm thinking about getting back into rc, like a dummy i sold my rc10 gold pan as they call it a decade ago that my father built. i came to team associated first for quality but it seems to be lacking. guess i'll build a terra scorcher and call it a day LOL
