Alex Kingston is so great and charismatic so of course, every performance of hers is brilliant. Never get tired of seeing River Song. I NEED more adventures of her and the 12th Doctor (they did have 24 years together after all)!
I cannot agree more with you! She's absolutely fantastic, love Alex and cannot imagine anyone else being River Song. I would LOVE more adventures of her and the Twelve Doctor 🤩🥰😍 so MUCH!!! We didn't get to see them much on screen apart from that one episode. Would be so so wonderful to have Big Finish stories with Peter Capaldi and Alex!
@@hunyesmith03 I was just thinking the same thing. I was like... blah bloody blah blah, and I couldn't remember the name. Then I went blah f**king blah blah, and I STILL couldn't remember the name. Thank you!
This is great because A) it's Alex Kingston, and B) I just realized my German is better than I thought. I understood about 3/4ths of that answer. I've a ways to go, but I'm further than I thought. To quote David Banks as the Cyberleader: "EXCELLENT!"
"Cleopatra. Who is in Egypt. And dead!" I didn't know Steven Moffat wrote River as Cleopatra specifically because Alex is a fan of her. That was very nice of him.
He did that quite a bit. Tennant's favourite monster was the Zygons but he never got to fight them, so Moffat put them both in the 50th. Same with Capaldi and the original Cybermen in World Enough And Time. He really looked after the actors, and you could tell.
@@fredh1720 Yet another reason why Moffat's my favourite show runner. He's just a good bloke who cares about his cast and crew. His only crime when it came to looking after his actors was not allowing Capaldi to act alongside Carol Ann Ford. We'll probably never see Susan again now.
@@tomnorton4277 I agree, I believe Moffat's the best showrunner Doctor Who has ever had, and I don't even think it's that close. The show had an emotional intelligence in that period which it has otherwise never even come close to. It's not for everyone, but I could reel off my top 10 episodes of all time, and Moffat would be behind a good 6 or 7 of them. I think we'll see Carol back as Susan-at least I find it very difficult to believe she's never been asked. I also really like Claudia Grant as young Susan though. If Doctor Who were to get a new spin-off (and I think it should) I'd love to see her in a series set immediately after The Dalek Invasion Of Earth.
@@fredh1720 I think Russell T Davies was more consistent but there's one thing Steven Moffat excelled at in a way that Davies simply couldn't match. Moffat's stories had more heart. Davies was working with pre-established formulas and widely popular storytelling tropes and characters. He only really experimented when he was nearing the end of his time as Doctor Who showrunner. Moffat was always upfront about taking Doctor Who in a more experimental direction and this could have very easily crashed and burned within his first season, possibly even his first episode. Fortunately, he chose the perfect actor to take over from David Tennant. Aside from John Hurt and Patrick Troughton, Matt Smith is the only Doctor who could hit the ground running under the shadow of Tennant's massive reputation. Peter Capaldi would have crashed and burned under that pressure (the man simply isn't as good an actor as the fanbase makes him out to be) and Jodie Whittaker and Jo Martin wouldn't have been considered for the Doctor at all directly after Tennant (as far as I'm concerned, they're not the Doctor anyway but that's getting off topic). Sometimes Moffat's experimental approach worked and sometimes it didn't but the man clearly loved the show passionately, so every triumph ("Calling the War Council of Gallifrey. This is the Doctor!") and every mistake ("So how close is she? Could she even regenerate?") was either created or approved by a man who was finally living his lifelong dream and revelling in every moment of it.
I'm think that "spinoff" is The Eleventh Doctor Adventures. Jacob Dudman, who typically plays the Eleventh Doctor has stepped down from the role but they've also hinted at more with this Doctor, leaving us to believe Matt Smith is returning and i hope with Alex Kingston, that'd be awesome!
Good thing about Cleopatra though is both River and The Doctor have met her, the Doctor more so but River met her in the time bubble universe, which is how she scored the pyramids. Which was sadly offscreen :(
Danke für das tolle und spannende Interview, hätte ich eher gewusst, das man Alex Interviewt, hätte ich noch ein Paar Fragen auf Deutsch stellen können schade.
I’m listening to Transference, the Big Finish Original Alex did, and she’s really compelling in that. Hopefully Big Finish get to use her in more roles to explore the dramatic range she’s got, she’d be a great villain

The big question, is River going to meet Ncuti's Doctor?
That would be funny, since, as Ryan Gosling said, Ncuti is going to be a gay Doctor.
