Back in the 80’s there was more money per capita in Hemet than in West Palm Beach Florida. There were upwards of 20 banks on Florida Ave. All the retirees have passed and since new retirees have been moving out of CA instead of to Hemet, the money is gone and the glut of old affordable senior housing is now a beacon for low income, unemployed persons from LA and Orange County. Crime and drugs and homelessness have overrun the city.
I was born in Hemet, lived there for 21 years and was so glad to get out. Sorry but other than that horse area (Hemet Stock) nothing would make me want to move back. Only thing I miss that Texas doesn't have that Hemet does is Stater Brothers.
1:28 (We figure we will double growth by the year 2020) Well I'm in 2019 and the city is loaded with drug addicts has fewer businesses then it even did back then and over half the population is poor....... That's some serious city growth right there!
I remember about 15 years after this aired we use to play a game as we drove down the main drag of Florida Ave. It was called count the hookers. We got up to 17 one time.
W.F. Whittier. Was he the founding scientologist? Been in Hemet a decade and never seen the stockyard. Good spot for affordable housing. 55+ housing rules do not allow adult family to live together. At 35 yrs old my Daughter is too young to live in and be my caregiver. Retirees up here in 1976 must have hated their families. We like each other now in 2021.
Sep 6 2020 this was filmed. Wow. 20 years later and wow, now it is 2020. What do you guys think about the progression/regression of the area. I guess it is all about money to the city.
@@mohamadfaiz6935 No biggy. For some reason there are others who think it was in 2020 as well. Not sure where the mistake came from? The host of the show Huell Howser died in 2013. I taped this show on VHS when it aired.
miss you Huell and Louie and Cameron, you were the best at what you do and that is bring people together in the best sense
with enthusiasm and caring.

Man back when Hemet was clean friendly and a beautiful city. Now it’s dirty, crime ridden, rudeness, and sad 😢
Is a beautiful city besides the drug addiction and some people that need help with the addiction.
thanks to the 2008 recession, cities like Hemet took a big hit and never recovered fully.

If that video was filmed today it would show homeless people walking by one after the other with shopping carts and they would ask Huell for a dollar.
You exaggerate, my friend. Hemet is still Heaven.

Hemet lost the war when the Hilton reservation center closed. That took millions out of the monthly economy. You don't recover from that.
It closed and was moved to the Philippines.
