Made my day Eric! I’m so glad you are enjoying it. It’s the tip of the iceberg in many ways, but hopefully I can scale it up into more resources eventually. The dream would be to run workshops 😊
Love this, Sam. On the "get close," ever since I heard the Robert Capa quote (if your pictures aren't good enough, you aren't close enough), I've worked on this a lot. Yesterday, I shot a small town holiday parade, but with an 85mm focal length. Everything looks like I'm toe to toe with the subject. It surely changed the energy of the photos.
It’s tough because there is so much value in those longer lenses. And with the right finess, they can help to capture expressions and moments that absolutely wouldn’t happen with you close. Generally though, I think the idea still applies, as being close is relative to your lens. Thanks for watching Chris, and I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Cheers
R.Capa also got too close to a landmine. Get close to a copra, a tasmanian brast get close to Andromeda. What expo triangle? In recent yrs (i.e. digital) it sounds like a holy piece of crap. He was showing you his 6x6 film camera; once you chose your film the rest is make-do (including yrs of "seeing" & skill)
Ok!! 👏I’m so happy Jed told me about your channel because this is a great first video for me to see. Loved it; great points I will be thinking about these in my own creative process! 1) the environmental framing point was an ah-ha moment bc one of my favorite pictures Jed took in Greece has a double(!!) environmental frame and I didn’t know exactly why I liked it so much. 🤯 2) getting closer - I’d watched a vid about cinematography and they were talking about how you go in for a close up during an emotional moment, so I’d already been thinking about this. BUT in our last Greece video these was a vulnerable moment for me and I initially had cut away from it in the edit… Jed put it back in and then I realized ok, if we’re going to show this then I should push in a bit and I think ultimately, it is more true and feels like the right creative decision. 3) I hadn’t thought about this point at all but I love it and excited for Jed to watch the video so we can talk about it, since he’s more the photography focused one of our duo! Sorry long comment, was excited to hear these ideas and felt like sharing! Looking forward to seeing the bag in action 👏 -Janet
Hell yeah 🤙🏻 Hoping to make quite a lot more Nikon content soon. Quite frankly I most enjoy making videos about photography, ways of thinking, techniques etc…, but the gear stuff is what many people come here for. I’ll most definitely make videos for both sides of the isle. Thanks for the support 😊
I love your content. It helps me so much in my personal photography. I wish you all the best for your success in photography. Best regards from a Nikon fan located in South-West-Germany.
This is the perfect channel for a story into photography we are all trying to achieve. Your perspective of your photography is great and inspiring!
Wow, too kind my friend. Thank you so much for the support!
I really enjoyed your new book An Introduction to Photographic Storytelling!!! Your handwork writing it is greatly appreciated :)
