    I used to never use pins, and my results were... interesting... I finally came across a few videos (a couple of years ago) where Kimberly talks about using tons of pins, and thought I'd try it. When I first started pinning, it took up a lot of time, but the results were worth it. Now my pinning takes up almost no time, and my work is better than ever. Anyway, whenever I see Kimberly talking about pinning, it makes me think about my early days of quilting. I might have quit had it not been for Kimberly and these videos! Haha!

    This may be the answer to my prayers! I love Hunter's Star, but, do not care for the half-square triangle version. This method appears to solve the problem! Bravo! Can't wait to try this out! Thank you!!!

    Thank you Kimberly for another great tutorial. I would sew a half inch away from the seam allowance when sewing the large corners on and then I would have half square triangles for another project and not as much waste. I am going to try this method for the block. It has been one that I wanted to try but thought it would be too difficult.

      Me too. I used the Rapid Fire Hunter's star template by Deb Tucker. Less waste than this method, easy and it makes a bunch of blocks at one time. But this method looks fun too, just don't want that much waste.

    ...for those who have been quilting for years, we assume no fabric goes to waste or is thrown out..that is just a 'given'; the smaller triangle pieces can be sewn together to form a HST, and the larger one as well; this goes without saying, .... we assume this happens behind the scenes and does not need to be mentioned as this is not what the tutorial is about...neat block!

    Glue basting is a great way to match intersections and stabilize bias edges. Not good if you like to press open. I get great results. Also great for chain piecing. Units stay put; sewist is uninjured (no blood on quilt) ; seams align perfectly; biased edges stabilized; quick accurate seaming. PS Really interesting way to construct this block.

    This technique seems to have the fewest seams, and the pointiest points. I bought the pattern and got a look at the fabric requirements, and had a heart attack. Has anyone done a fabric yardage calculation for the top using only 2 fabrics? There is a lot of waste in the pattern as written using 1/2 yard cuts. I just can't believe it would takeover 7 yards each (14 yards!) of two fabrics to make this quilt top.

      At least you can have a lot of big HST from the big square she add up as the last stitch. The white triangle can also be save for other HST.

      I use the Rapid Fire Hunter's Star Template, and it has almost no waste, it's fast, it makes many blocks at one time and the template has multiple sizes on it. It works well. I love the HS block, you can do two color, 3 color, 4 color or scrappy like this one. There are some vids on YT showing the template if you want to see how it works.

    • @FatQuarterShopTX
      @FatQuarterShopTX  6 років тому +5

      Hi Angela! For the corner triangles, you can sew a 1/4" seam on the other side of the cut line and have a finished half-square triangle unit as well. There are always ways you can use up the scraps!
