  • This is a photo montage of a fast road engine build to be used in my TR3a that I compete in.
    The Engine Builder, TR Enterprises are happy for this to be released.
    The rods were provided by the manufacturers and have yet to be tested.
    Hopefully there will be follow up videos with the engine in the car and competing.
    We don’t have power or torque data yet either as it has not run yet.
    It’s another chapter in the story of my car.
    the rods are available here

    Got my TR2 booked in for a fast-road engine rebuild with them. If it’s anything near the TR4 engine rebuild they did for me I’ll be very happy.

      Paul, not sure my spec is up to your TR4 but hopefully it’s robust and reliably powerful. Perhaps another track day to compare sometime Paul ?

    ...Oooo,....My old TR would be so happy with a new heart like that.....It has a great heart now, but still....there's always room for improvement ...As an ex television cinematographer, let me compliment you on the film (video) work, very well done. John (west coast, Can.)

      Thank you John a big compliment from a professional. You will see from other “films” on my channel my dad was into it early !! And motorsport too as a racer himself he know we’re the best places round a track to set up the clockwork 16mm camera !

      @@HamishRacing I carried a 16mm with me for more years than I can count, had to switch to video tape in '78 (camera and recorder separate)...For a guy who started out with a 4x5 Crown Graphic press camera, the magic was gone....Film is like Triumphs, once in your blood, well,...you know the rest...( I actually shot news film from my TR, bad weather not laziness)...'till next time..

    Hamish, I've looked closely at your cylinder head and the combustion chamber and I do not see any evidence of hardened seats. Is this a new cast iron head?
    I received my new pistons and liners today. PowerTune kit from British Parts North West. The pistons look exactly like yours.
    Did you use the rings that came with the kit?

    • @HamishRacing

      Hi Dave
      Yes hardened seat valves, we can only get unleaded fuel here but for how long 😳.
      It’s a rebuilt 3b engine with its original head just reworked as you have seen. I would have to assume that TR Enterprises used the kit rings - I don’t have the space or knowledge to build a fast reliable engine. They were the only reliable expert co. That would be confident to put together an engine, ignition and carbs to meet a bhp specification that I set them, as I have to be < 180bhp/tonne (kg). For my sprint and hill climb class. And it is.
      Hope this helps.

    Hello Hamish, could you share details of the pistons? Are the cast or forged? 87 or 89mm? I like the engine paint color choice. Looks like a tidy build. Cheers.

      Hi Dave
      It’s all TR Enterprises kit with the original crankshaft

      So 89mm cast pistons.

      @@HamishRacing Thanks for sharing that info. I had an original set of cast Hepolite Big Bore 87mm in my TR3 and I'm considering a new set. The engine is apart for a refresh now. I think BPNorthwest sells this same 89 set. Cheers.

      I went from 87 to 89mm with this latest engine build. Very pleased with it. Big valve, shaped and ported head, TR Enterprises cam. And a very light flywheel. But it is set up for our sprints and hill climbs as you will have seen rather than the prolonged circuit racing that you do.
      Love your videos especially the car build one. I’m forever sharing it to give people examples of great ideas and workmanship.👏

    are your still liking the rods? Iam hanging out in Costa Rica right now where its warm and sunny.

      Mike the engine only just finished and fitted into car. Needs running in. But they sorted timing and carbs on rolling road to 5400 rpm. Engine builder very happy.
      Glad you are enjoying somewhere warm 😁 stay safe.

    I am building my TR for fast road what do those rods run ? got to be cheaper the Carrillos. what bore?

    • @HamishRacing
      @HamishRacing  2 роки тому

      Hi Mike I hesitated about them to be honest. They are Chinese and you hear stories about soft metal and poor tolerance. But these look and “feel” quality items. There is a bit of weight too them and the machining is good the gudgeon/piston pins fit perfectly as do the big end bearings all the holes are round too. A lot of the original classic car conrods are stretching and hole becoming a bit oval after 60+years
      The engine builder was impressed
      They are cheap at the moment in the UK you’ll have to look for a North American supply
      May be here

      There was a link with my video description.
      Ps it’s 89mm

      @@HamishRacing ya found the website there 330.00 usd that is cheap. I have gotten a set of AA I-beam rods for my stroker vw air cooled (about 200.00 usd) I wanted to try them because there shorter then stock so I dont need to shim the cylinders and make the engine wider.

    Don’t you run in a power/weight class? Is this engine compliant?

      @HamishRacing  2 роки тому

      Hi Paul. i am impressed that you follow this so closely. yes we do have power weight etc classes and with this engine when its fitted means i will go into another class and have tougher bogey/target times- i'll just have to get quicker !!
      i have been very open with this engine . hey its on youtube so no skulduggery here.

    • @HamishRacing
      @HamishRacing  2 роки тому

      This is harder that it seems to increase torque with the same power especially when you don’t have an ecu to program. So have Ypres for both torque and bhp.
