  • My composition California Sundance played on a Gregory L. Oxrieder Flamenco Guitar at the Rosewood Guitar shop in Seattle Washington. Here, for many of the quick runs and alzapuas I use my alternate techniques #alternail and #altzapua . They help me stay relaxed at any speed and avoid hand injury.

    Thanks for the view and subscribe! I'll keep making more. I love playing this tune! It's something I composed this as an update and a nod of respect to "Mediterranean Sundance" by the great Al DiMeola and Paco de Lucia (45 years ago). I developed and use #alternail and #altzapua with my index nail as an alternative to picado and alzapua sometimes TO HELP AVOID HAND INJURY. Now I can achieve these fast runs at any tempo, feeling comfortable and relaxed without the speed wall and insecurities that those techniques sometimes bring.

      @@BenjaminWoods Thank you, Mr. Woods! As a solo singer/guitarist, I need to get as much music and sound out of my guitar as I can. Your lessons on flamenco technique are short, targeted, and provide ample practice in less than 4 minutes. Looking forward to more … Cheers!

    great stuff, love your playing overall and the Californian Sundace is the one that I come back to listen again and again the most. A bit weird to listen to it with just 1 guitar, but it's all still there.
    Any changes you'll get the Californian Sundance in spotify? Just as a single would be great ;)

      Thank you Kradantoste! Spotify? maybe not. Making albums and recordings are not as important to me now than making videos are. But good idea, I may just.

    Beautiful piece of yours! Miss your FAQ-videos though
    so here is a question: Which technique (tremolo, picado, alzapua...) took you the most time to develop?

    • @BenjaminWoods
      @BenjaminWoods  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you. PICADO for me is the most uncomfortable technique, for my hands its just not ergonomic which is why I developed the #alternail technique. It's just more comfortable.

    '80s Metal influence on this composition? Nah, not a bit. That was intense!

    Sir do you still do flamenco with pick?

    • @BenjaminWoods
      @BenjaminWoods  2 роки тому +1

      Not really. I use my index nail as a pick. I did that 6 video PICK FLAMENCO series to prove it can be done. I know people out there with hand injuries and I know that could help.

    When you were practicing hours everyday in your early 20s starting out did you know you wanted to be a musician as a living? Or was it sheer luck and coincidence that it happened? I know you mentioned you got the sponsorship just from being good, but did you have a “musical plan” or was it just how things turned out?

    • @BenjaminWoods
      @BenjaminWoods  2 роки тому +1

      Great question. I always knew I wanted to do music for a living, I just had no idea how I'd make it happen. But I took every opportunity that presented itself and tried to expand on them, think in bigger ways maybe not thought of before. Getting ideas and inspiration but then acting on them.
