They trapped themselves a bit there. In the comics both Eve and Amber are white. Storywise it would have made a lot more sense down the road to racebend Eve instead of Amber. Let's see where they'll take it. Show is still awesome anyways.
I figured most ppl would turn on her the moment she gave the narcissist's signature look in episode 5. No matter how right you are and how wrong the other person is, eyeing someone up and down with an expression of disgust screams "look how much better than you i am". I don't think i've ever seen a fictional character who wasn't a villain or antagonist make that face before.
Yeah, it's just that... Ok, Mark _has_ _been_ a _liar_ _(and_ _a_ _bad_ _one,_ _at_ _that),_ but she is acting *way* *too* *mean,* and honestly kind of _manipulative,_ about the whole situation. Like, c'mon, Amber, you _have_ to admit that maybe you are, _just_ _a_ _little,_ overreacting.
@@benn454 Well, it's Todd. How sympathetic to him can you be? 😏 A couple of things to keep in mind. One, Mark and Amber are both seventeen. Teenagers are often dumb, and don't yet know how to deal with emotions. Also, Mark and Amber dated for five months by the last episode (this was Six out of Eight). Mark's conduct as a boyfriend has been far from stellar, and Amber's cut him a lot of slack.
@@danieldickson8591 Todd being an asshole doesn't excuse blackmail. Which is why I'm not a fan of high school romances being shoehorned into stories. It's irrelevant to the story and just serves as a form of cheap drama. In ten years, Mark won't even remember her name.
I get frustrated by the Mark and Amber nonsense that goes on in Season 1, but it's entirely on a teenagers-shit-at-communication level of frustration. What really bothers the absolute hell out of me from this episode, and going forward, is that no one reacts in a very believable way to William's boyfriend being eviscerated and lobotomized in some crazy snuff film human experiment. Those insane levels of trauma that William just went through are completely sidelined for Mark's meh relationship story, like it was just a bad night out and not a life altering and horrific thing to be a part of. Like, sure, it's more dumb-teenager stuff for Mark to hone in on girlfriend problems after that, but it's such a weird thing for the show not to focus on. It's just super bizarre to me that William and Rick's horror-show tragedy isn't given the amount of weight it should have on a friend group, especially when that experience is affecting Mark's best friend as directly as a plot point can. Even if none of them were super close as friends yet, the show really glosses over and moves on from a monumentally fucked up event that should be overshadowing the relationship spat by miles.
I absolutely agree! This show is *incredible,* but it _does_ make some weird writing decisions here and there; that one in particular, I 100% get what you mean. Like, William almost lost the boy who is is _first love,_ and we don't even know in what state Rick is left in after that episode, if he will ever recover, and they just... Expect us to care more about Mark and Amber for some reason??? Yeah, weird writing decisions.
Well, the focus of the show is Mark, not William. It's also not a story of therapy and recovering from trauma, but a coming of age story about a young superhero, stressing action and adventure. It's hard to find any superhero who hasn't had to be strong enough to deal with trauma and responsibility that would put most of us in a rubber room. You will see the consequences of such things more over the course of the series. But if you think this episode was traumatic, hold onto your butt.
Tbf it’s a long distance thing that seems to be fairly casual and sporadic… but still pretty traumatic. Maybe the idea is just to show that William is VERY strong (emotionally) and that makes him stronger than Invincible in a way.
Amber is a big rough point for me. I totally get where she's coming from, you should expect honesty from your significant other. In a vacuum that's not a crazy suggestion. And Mark was not perfect, he should have avoided making promises he couldn't keep. But Amber is less upset about that and more about just being lied to. Something as earth shattering as being a superhero just can't apply to those rules imo. It's not just about her safety, or mark's, but everyone mark knows and loves. If he becomes a hero as big and powerful as Omni-man in the future, his loved ones are at big risk if their identities are deducible. Deciding to trust anyone with that info is a massive commitment, let alone someone who, for all you know, will not be your partner for life, and could potentially be the subject of a nasty breakup, be it in days, months, or years. Eve was 100% right when she said you have to be really sure about someone before telling them.

19:18 Um ... where have you been, Ariana? Animated shows have had that type of detail in emotions and expressions for quite a while now. I mean, I think y'all are finishing watching Avatar and are currently watching The Legend of Korra, and much-improved attention to story, emotion, etc. is the biggest reason behind the Animation Renaissance of the 1990's.
5:08 The only reason I understand this line is because i read the comic now and hes an author. I dont think this is ever brought up in the show again. The comic is better is some ways sadly.
The season imo is a solid 9.5/10…it would’ve been a genuine 10/10 if it weren’t for Amber’s bullshit. I didn’t think they could make anyone worse than Nolan or Rex. At least they’re good characters
Mark was getting his ass kocked because 1. The Reanimen are extremely powerful basically souped up super zombies 2. He barely recovered from nearly dying after being wrecked by an omniman level threat (yes battlebeast could probly body omniman) i think its even hinted hes mot fully back on his feet 3. Mark Grayson/Invincibles whole "thing" is hes a spiderman/nightwing/superboy pastiche.. getting his ass beat &always being up against it is literally oart of his character beat 😂 just like peter parker is always getting wrecked in the comics.
So the reason “atom eve” is her hero name has to do with her powers and suit logo. You can imply these next details on your own, but she can literally Change all forms of atoms; including themselves. I think it plays off of the creation of humanity “Adam and Eve” since her power is literally creation. But I also think it could be a possible non binary nod or gender fluid. That’s my personal opinion but I hope I can give some possible insight!
3:21 how does one teach a kid important lessons that’ll impact millions of lives? Superheroes don’t have to deal with many consequences ever. Omni man did the right thing in the long run imo
This is the most disturbing episode of the show yet not as boring as epidode 2 or 5 (hot take). So im conflicted. But it is by far the most disturbing thing to happen in Invincible, i feel like.
To be fair the power scaling is different in the show than In the comics in the comics Omni man wouldn’t be able to fight battle beast the white tiger guy in the last episode he’s way way way more powerful than everyone probably thought one of the funniest jokes I’ve seen about this show was machine head hiring battle beast to fight the guardians of the globe and invincible would be like king pin hiring thanos to fight in the first iron movie
The line “I knew you where invincible” In the next episode ruins season 1 and 2. Ambers character just becomes a backdrop in season 2 instead of a cast member tbh.
It's kind of funny that Maple said what everyone was thinking, just cut it out. No more love stuff, it doesn't add much and serves only to annoy the audience. They tried making a complex character and failed miserably, trim the fat and move on.
Ppl keep saying that mark did nothing wrong and amber is trash. I disagree with the "mark did nothing wrong" part and yeah he deserved to get dumped long before this, but his mistakes were some pretty standard mindless teen BS. Amber on the other hand is absolutely full of herself, completely unreasonable, AND plays dumb on top of it (failing to be the grown up she demands mark to be), not to mention what happens at the very end of the season. Absolute garbage character.
you have to keep in mind that being annoying is a direct attack on the viewer. i know no one is really dying so it's not a big deal but amber is actually annoying me.
There was nothing weird about Amber's interaction with that college guy. If you have a party or social event, don't you want a good number of people there? That's all. I run a social dance, and have organized a party or a movie night here and there. You want a good number of people for it to feel like a bangin' event.
Whether you agree with her or not, the Amber/Mark drama also provides a mirror to the Debbie/Nolan situation regarding lies and truths etc, and is important to Mark in that aspect regardless of the inherent frustration of the situation.
True, but also Counterpoint: The person Nolan is, and who he is lying to, is completely different to the person Mark is, and who HE is lying to. Nolan is lying about his entire life, goal, and reason for being on Earth, to his wife who is a good person and is married to. Mark is lying about his Identity as a Superhero, which is a VERY private thing, to his gf who he's been dating for only a few months.
amber is the most toxic character in comic book history. She knew KNEW mark was invincible the whole time but gaslit him the entire time and abused him like someone who did not because she wanted him to suffer for not putting her minor inconveniences above saving human lives and the safety of the entirety of the world, She literally went to a party to get strange dick because he changed clothes before saving her and everyone else in this episode.
Considering mark is a viltrimite him getting his ass kicked by a cyborg means he sucks at fighting. He’s just very new to it so I cut him some slack. It is frustrating tho
We don’t know that. Sure I get you she “could have” been lying but we don’t have any proof to back that up besides guessing. The only thing we do have is her saying she already figured out he was invincible WEEKS ago, And tbh it does add up that way because she doesn’t even have the slightest look of shock or any reaction really to seeing him flying up to her room in his costume… The writers wrote victim mentality all over her just accept it lol
@@Theoneeyed_ghoul if she knew he was Invincible then the outburst here was performative. Which is worse. She clearly doesn't know. Also... Spoilers for the next episode.
I usually skip this episode when I rewatch the series because it pisses me off so much about Amber and the b******* that she pulled I f****** hate Amber
I've never understood the insane hate Amber gets, like it's a high-school romance and she doesn't like being lied to. Mark probably shouldn't make so many promises and she should probably chill out, but they're both more rational than most people at that age. I think people just overly identify with "super heroes are always in the right and any relationship strife should be completely ignored because it's inconvenient to think about" lol.
@@probablypragmatic6893 first off it wasn't a good match up but why everyone dislikes her is because when mark left that cyborg fight to get his costume on Amber is upset that mark left..... Also at this point Amber knows that he's a super hero. So when she gets mad at him for changing cloths is bullshit and why everyone hates her. She's a hypocrite that's why she's not liked.
@lothsper I agree with her overreacting but I took it as "teenagers are shit at relationships and understanding outside context" and not "AMBER IS LITERALLY WORSE THAN OMNIMAN AND ALSO BADLY WRITTEN AND RUINED THE SHOW!!" which is what a shocking amount of people takeaway from it lol. Of course she's a hypocrite, and Mark is naive and hella privileged. They also seem to be a bad match, but that's how a lot of relationships are (especially when they're young). I'm not saying you're one of the people losing their shit, it's mostly my shock at people treating her like she's Joffery Lanister or something lol. She's just a different take on a super hero GF, like she actually has opinions and isn't just 'OMG you're a superhero and I'm a non-superhero, my life is forever on pause because now I am suddenly a character who can't be written well", which is with rare exception always the case. Like someone can't be upset they were lied to repeatedly? Sure she over reacted but she was also just almost killed. We all remember and forgave Mark for him losing his shit in his first real fight, and that MFer can defend himself lol. She just almost watched a kid her age get his head crushed while shes trying to save people and then also confirmed that Mark's been lying to her. Over reacting? Yeah, definitely. Badly written, or somehow worse than most people? Nah, not even a little bit lol I guess I never followed the show online and I didn't realize there was this weird concensus around her character with completely different takeaways than I had. She's not the best character ever or anything, but damn do people lose their mind over her in these comment sections.
People shit on Amber but honestly she's written in a way that I can only get mad at the writers, not her as a character. Bc her logic doesn't track for me in a way that I actually don't believe a person would think/act this way. She feels too constructed to be a genuine character. Easily the biggest issue I have with the show.
I think Amber gets more hate than she deserves, largely for what she says next episode. But also because they're in a relationship that, at least currently, isn't working. She gets called a bad character when she's mostly just a perfectly fine character in a bad relationship with someone we identify with.
I think the Mark x Amber conflict would be more interesting if the show convinced me that there's a reason Mark is convinced that he needs a secret identity to begin with. But I don't think the show ever really covers that, making his consistent lying just frustrating.
Lol i don't unbeatable why ppl don't like Amber. Maybe cuz i love her hair and has an ex that looked like her but she seems fine lol. It's mark that tries to do everything and makes promises he can't keep.
Exactly, Mark could and should have just left her alone if he wasn't willing to be dependable. Was she forcing Mark to do anything? No. And Mark's excuses kept getting worse and worse, but I get it, he's a dumb fuck, loveable, but a dumb fuck. I think they shouldn't be together as a couple. Now that doesn't mean I give Amber a pass either, she broke up with this dude, she shouldn't have taken him back ,especially since she already knew this dude is a dumb fuck incapable of having even believable excuses for why he'd flaking out on her. She gets a lot of hate thar just isn't justified. Mark was way more shitty to her than she was to him, by a mile
@@RobertMorgan Because in her eyes, mark keeps making promises and leaves her hanging. A person is defined by their actions and not by their words about who they say they are. Believing someone at their word only is how con men are able to do what they do. It just seems she wants honesty and he seems like a person that is too worried about making others happy instead of finding it for himself
The fact that people hate her more than almost everyone else in this show is crazy to me. They hate her more than Sinclair! That's nuts! I agree with what you say, I don't think she's infallible either, but everyone seems to forget SHES A TEENAGER! Teenagers can be irrational and over emotional in any decision, no matter the gender.

Episode 8 is wild
10:06 Me when I’m tired of Daredevil getting beaten up
Mark was getting his ass kocked because
1. The Reanimen are extremely powerful basically souped up super zombies
2. He barely recovered from nearly dying after being wrecked by an omniman level threat (yes battlebeast could probly body omniman) i think its even hinted hes mot fully back on his feet
3. Mark Grayson/Invincibles whole "thing" is hes a spiderman/nightwing/superboy pastiche.. getting his ass beat &always being up against it is literally oart of his character beat 😂 just like peter parker is always getting wrecked in the comics.
Never understood how those cyborgs were giving such trouble to mark and omni-man, like the show didn't explain that, can someone give me a light here?
Fun Fact: Motherfucking Douuug Chestonnnnnn is Rick from Rick & Morty
Justin Roiland pre-cancellation
So the reason “atom eve” is her hero name has to do with her powers and suit logo. You can imply these next details on your own, but she can literally Change all forms of atoms; including themselves. I think it plays off of the
creation of humanity “Adam and Eve” since her power is literally creation. But I also think it could be a possible non binary nod or gender fluid. That’s my personal opinion but I hope I can give some possible insight!
Amber only gets worse :)
Y'all think Amber is annoying now, you're gonna love her the next 2 episodes lol
I really hope you 2 watch the last episodes in one go.
3:21 how does one teach a kid important lessons that’ll impact millions of lives? Superheroes don’t have to deal with many consequences ever.
Omni man did the right thing in the long run imo
Uh why did Maple almost bleed to death 👀
Lol he was trying to prevent all that while yall were pausing his mother for getting him into it 😂
it's okay i cant wink either
Looking forward to reaction of ep7
Nobody taking about how Ezra Miller who voiced Sinclair is a creeper irl 😂
This is the most disturbing episode of the show yet not as boring as epidode 2 or 5 (hot take). So im conflicted. But it is by far the most disturbing thing to happen in Invincible, i feel like.
i like ep 5 a lot but i agree that ep 2 is sorta weak. also ep 4
Best test of character is have them watch this show and see if they like Amber or not by the end of it. Those that like her have serious problems.
@@lotus2001 no amount of nuance will make Amber a likable character. You should get checked out.
Amber is the worst
Definitely need a Matilda reaction
Would love to see a Matilda reaction
4:12 No childish giggle after "I wanna come"? im kinda disappointed
11:50
Spit my drink
Finally!!
I call the cyborgs the unethicabots.
lol
I don't care if Doug was an arsehole, that was a horrifying to happen to him
The line “I knew you where invincible” In the next episode ruins season 1 and 2. Ambers character just becomes a backdrop in season 2 instead of a cast member tbh.
MATILDA!!!!!!
First thumb's up !
Ezra miller actually fit with his characther for once??
It amazes me at how big Amber’s hate train is compared to all the other characters of this universe who LITERALLY kill innocent people
you have to keep in mind that being annoying is a direct attack on the viewer. i know no one is really dying so it's not a big deal but amber is actually annoying me.
Its because Amber's negative traits are a lot more down to earth and likely to be seen in the average person.
protagonist GF (being annoying) >
protagonist dad
(killing innocent people & gas-lighting everyone before he takes over the world) @@Diegesis
you can say the same for omni-man as well and you rarely hear anyone talk shit on him @@SnowyWolborg
There was nothing weird about Amber's interaction with that college guy. If you have a party or social event, don't you want a good number of people there? That's all. I run a social dance, and have organized a party or a movie night here and there. You want a good number of people for it to feel like a bangin' event.
👍🏾
Whether you agree with her or not, the Amber/Mark drama also provides a mirror to the Debbie/Nolan situation regarding lies and truths etc, and is important to Mark in that aspect regardless of the inherent frustration of the situation.
even nolan is more redeemable a person than amber
True, but also Counterpoint:
The person Nolan is, and who he is lying to, is completely different to the person Mark is, and who HE is lying to.
Nolan is lying about his entire life, goal, and reason for being on Earth, to his wife who is a good person and is married to.
Mark is lying about his Identity as a Superhero, which is a VERY private thing, to his gf who he's been dating for only a few months.
Rick rick rick and morty
Wtf you almost bleed to death??????
I can't believe they actually had the voice actor of Rick Sanchez played Doug Chesten.
Can’t believe they got an annoying gross prick that hits on young girls to play an annoying gross prick that hits on young girls! 😮
Amber THE BEST Character in TV HISTORY!!
lol
amber is the most toxic character in comic book history.
Just to be clear, Amber definitely doesn't know Mark is Invincible. That's why she got mad at him for "leaving" when Doug attacked...
Homie is so mad 😂
@@probablypragmatic6893 first off it wasn't a good match up but why everyone dislikes her is because when mark left that cyborg fight to get his costume on Amber is upset that mark left..... Also at this point Amber knows that he's a super hero. So when she gets mad at him for changing cloths is bullshit and why everyone hates her. She's a hypocrite that's why she's not liked.
@@wavehellhole I was I've watched this episode over a year ago and it still triggers me.
Nah, not even a little bit lol
I guess I never followed the show online and I didn't realize there was this weird concensus around her character with completely different takeaways than I had.
Omni-man would have been stomped by Battle Beast if he tried helping mark lol that’s why he just watched
Nolan is no thragg
Even after the reveal in ep 7, the Amber hate is forced and a surface level read of the storyline
Lol 😂 yeah he gets his ass kicked a lot 😂 he's a terrible superhero 😂 even spider-man got the upper-hand eventually
Why can't Mark himself be enough for Amber? Why does she have to love him for what he DOES instead of who he is?
@RobertMorgan What awful thing was she demanding from Mark? What monumental tasks was she asking for Mark to do in order for them to be together?
I'm full team Amber, 100 percent understand her anger and frustration, even after the episode 7 reveal it all still makes sense
Lmao, okay bro
No, it really doesn't.
