  • TV Antenna Masting Pole idea - use the top rail of a chain-link fence as a TV antenna mast. It is sold in 10 foot sections for about $15. One end is tapered to allow for easy joining of sections. For extra security I join the sections with a through-bolt. It is critical to use proper bracing, guy wires or brackets to fasten and secure the antenna mast to a structure such as a building or roof eave. The 1-1/2 inch diameter fits most any antenna mast clamp.

Nice I never thought of chain link for an antenna pole which is available at every box store. Push up masts are around $90.00 and usually not available locally

A cool idea could be connecting consoles to TVS and what antennas are compatible with them

I have two 20 foot pieces of that fence top rail, right now... Just waiting for the next tree / limb to drop on my chain link fence again! I have already been eyeing it, to employee it as my ham radio mast! 😅

Maybe for small antennas Bigger antenna and some wind and they bend

Good point, that’s why I mentioned the need for bracing and guy wires. However very large antennas are best suited for a tower.

What I find hard to believe is that the pipe for the fence costs $17 dollars but a piece of electrical conduit or antenna mast exactly the same size and lenth costs $67 dollars. WHY ? ? ?

Good point. Could be material, metal gauge, who knows?

I have used 2 sections of fence pipe together, works great, wouldn't use more than 2 sections unless you use guild wires.

What gauge is that? If it's 16 gauge or larger, it's better than the majority on the market. If you want to see pathetic, RCA makes mast sections that you can bend over your knee. This really does remind me of the old Radio Shack mast sections I used to buy 40 years ago and I believe they had a pass-through bolt as well. As far as why it is cheaper as someone asked, I am quite sure it's because of the quantity of fence sections produced so the economy of scale and not necessarily lesser materials, quite the contrary I am sure.

Great idea. Any thoughts on where to get an in ground mast for 36” or 39” satellite dishes? 2” OD and maybe 8’-10’ in length, in Canada. Thank you.

I would look at a metal or steel supply shop. That is where I bought some schedule 40 (3-1/2") pipe for a C band dish. They may have a 2" OD pipe you can buy.

I think I would've used "lock washers". But I'm just sayin'.

I used a nylon locking nut on the bolt. A lock washer would help too though. 73

L'ho spiegato nel video. Ho detto che deve essere rinforzato e cablato per resistere alle forze di carico verticale e del vento e al peso dell'antenna.

@@jeffs1166 I can give you a small exercise you may try at home but don't let anyone see you doing this. Look in the mirror and try to say Moose Poop three times. It's actually a sense of humor test. No, it's not like the legend of Bloody Mary, a pooping Moose will not appear in your mirror.
