It cannot be understated how outrageously freaking epic it was to see Vader unleashed like that! To fans going all the way back to 1977 we had to wait 40 years to see Vader like that. In the past he always held back, either because he still felt some semblance of emotion for Obi-wan or because he could not bring himself to kill his son. But here? These men meant nothing to him and he went in furious! Lord Vader in ALL of his menacing glory!
Don’t forget we also had to wait along time for something else emotional to happen that we didn’t get to see in the movies and that happened on a series
When I was watching this and got to the end with Vader slicing and force holding his way through the ship, it reminded me of the Luke scene in The Mandalorian. They both had the same energy, just different sides of the force! Both scenes are so freaking cool!! lol
The only other time we see Vader go hard like that is in the comics. And comic Vader still makes every movie Vader look like a pansy, even with this scene.
I love this darker side of SW. War isn’t just heroes and bullets magically missing the good guys. It’s people who chose to sacrifice their lives and their souls for others to march ahead and win.
Cassian's "I've been in this fight since I was *six* years old. You're not the only one who lost everything." cuts really deep after the Andor TV show. He's by far the most interesting character of the Disney era SW.
deiwi: For me, this movie's best aspect is how it shows the bleak, dirty, and heartbreaking grit of War. It's Never black and white, right and wrong because we witness bad people on the side of the rebellion, and good people on the side of the Empire. They all have their stories and reasons, with differing measures of validity than shown in previous Star Wars movies. It's not more war-like than the other Star Wars movies. Just more realistic because it shows the grunts, the people who get swept into things they don't survive, who are nameless to most fans. And that's how it is in real life. It's a sad movie... Except for the end when Vader turns this space opera epic into a horror film
What topped it all for me, was seeing this movie when it came out, and not having the slightest clue this scene was even in there, let alone it was so totally bad ass.
This is above and beyond the best Disney has done with StarWars. That Vader hallway scene is worthy of standing with the best scenes in the whole franchise.
I triple stamp your double stamp. Biggest sin is the Vader comic isn't a stand alone, and that this movies writers and directors didn't get hands on trilogy
I saw this 4x in the theater. Everytime Vader appeared in the hall, everything got silent and you could hear a pin drop, then we erupted in cheers when the lightsaber engaged. What's EVEN MORE DOPE is he's deflecting blaster shots, throwing people around the room, seizing blasters, AND THE WHOLE TIME he's also using the force to keep the exit door from opening!! Vader is such a badass mofo he's MULTITASKING his force projection. Just pure power!
But why did he leave it open just enough for the plans to be handed off? Was he just a tiny bit short of Force energy to close it all the way? Or did he do it to give the rebel troops a sliver of hope that he could smash? 😉
That rollercoaster of emotions from the "Oh that is heartbreaking, I can't even be hyped seeing Vader" line to the sheer joy and ecstasy of the Vader corridor scene a few minutes later :D Never change J, always a pleasure following your journey through experiencing new films and shows.
Yes I see WTF Vader just did. That's my favorite scene of the entire movie for so many reasons and it's RIGHT AT THE END!!!! Such a capstone to a great film. GLAD YOU LOVED IT!!!
Even better, Jay recognizes Donnie Yen. Better than my other comment, kinda. "He better do a karate kick on someone." I think that's the point of having him on this movie 😂

This is one of the best star wars movies they should have had the people that made this do more movies. The cinematography just seems way better and it feels a lot more realistic and gritty story. The cgi people do look odd but the rest was superb.
Rember in Ep. 4 when the commander is briefing the pilots and mentions that many rebels gave their lives to get the Death Star plans. This what he was referring to. Awesome.
I still remember watching this in the theaters and when Vader went unleashed in that hallway scene, you felt the power. I was afraid and excited at the same time, never have I felt such emotion from a movie before. This was the Vader we all waited to see.
Yeah, I’d put the original trilogy, this film & Andor as my favorite Star Wars. It’s also about the only SW I’ll watch, since I really don’t like anything else (though Solo isn’t completely awful).

When he started to cut his way through that lot, everyone went apeshit, jumpin’ up and over chairs, almost a frickin’ riot. Never before had I seen that many women with a popcorn bucket on their lap, looking in amazed confusion at their partners.

The one character you were questioning in the film was in fact CGI. Peter Cushing played Grand Moff Tarkin in “A New Hope”. He is killed on the Death Star, when it is shot by Luke using the intel gained here in “Rogue One”. The actor (Peter Cushing) died in 1994, so they had to resort to using CGI to bring his integral character back to the screen. Likewise they used CGI to de-age Leia for the final closing scene. Their images are a little clunky looking, but they serve the plot well. Love this flick!
SOOO glad you decided to react to this, in my opinion this is one of the last really good Star Wars movies that came out, the new trilogy wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Also, to explain the difference between Clone and Storm Troopers. - Clone Troopers were introduced in the prequel trilogy of Star Wars (Episodes I-III where Anakin turns to the dark side) and are genetic copies of the bounty hunter Jango Fett who was killed my Mace Windu. @@j_rock80 The original story that was written before it was changed at least some of them would have survived which would make for better content later but ah well it was a good film.
33:19 “What is she proposing?” I’m so glad you reacted to that line. I believe your the only reactor I’ve seen that said something haha. I crack up every time I heard that line 😂😂😂😊
Hey Jay, a T-15 is a reference to A New Hope. That was the model of landspeeder that Luke had, that he had to sell with Obi-wan, to give as payment to Han to get off of Tatooine. Luke said, something to effect the effect of a new model being designed like an iPhone, the "T-15 is no longer in demand." Cuz, he didn't get as much money as he could have before, for a trade in or whatever 👍😁
Episode 7 is actually quite decent. But it's too much of a homage to Episode 4 imo. I see why they did it but there was no need to tell the same story twice. I could accept that, as long as they upped their game for 8 and 9. The problem is that they did the opposite, first with 8 and then 9 trying to correct the blunders in 8, making both of them a complete mess. It's sloppy at best. My only criticism for 7 is that Disney completely disrespected the Force in it, which they kinda did in all three movies tbh. That's why both Rey and Finn are way too proficient with a lightsaber. They both should have sliced off their own limbs by mistake in seconds, considering the situations they were in. If we compare with Luke and Anakin they had 3 and 10 years of practice respectively before their first duels, including being mentored by another Jedi. And they both lost their first duels. I know there is a bunch of stuff inbetween movies that are covered in books and comics and whatnot but I don't even know if that is canon anymore. Ohh well.
I don’t know how you do it but you are such a blast to watch movies with. This is a great one! Andor the show has a lot of the same themes and feels like grown up Star Wars. Thanks for sharing with us!
No way I could be mad at you about pausing it after the Vader scene! That's what I was waiting on! 😁 Your nerdgasm was EPIC - AHG VADER!! I'm glad you said that you're watching everything Star Wars. Clone Wars and Rebels are sooooooo good - you'll love them if you watch them. Night night bro! 👊🏻
I love this film. It's such a dramatic shift from other Star Wars films, a hopeful tragedy if you will. It also dares to show the truth of rebellions, that they are never pure and clean. There is always human tragedy and evil deeds done in the name of good. It all depends on how desperate the fight is, and being a member of a small force of rebels fighting a massive galaxy spanning empire with potentially quadrillions of people would make anyone feel a little bit desperate. It also manages to do something no other Star Wars film has ever dared to do, kill the main characters. They all do the noble sacrifice in the end, and by said sacrifice, they ultimately save the galaxy.
I remember seeing this in theaters and when I heard the breathing and saw that red saber ignite I got chills and screamed! You should really watch the Obi-Wan series.
this is the 2nd best Star Wars movie after Empire Strikes Back of course, A New Hope is awesome but Empire got grit and high stakes, betrayal and Han and Leias love story!
The "CGI person" was Guy Henry, who provided the physical presence and voice of the late Peter Cushing (who's face was superimposed on his own). Peter Cushing, who died in 1994, played Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars: A New Hope (1977).
It was beautiful, it really was, I'm actually so glad you took the time to say that on here in the youtube edit. Hahaha "The happieest song playing in his muthafuckin head"
Glad you enjoyed this one and the vader scene...this movie makes me want to jump right back into to a new hope after it brings the movie together so nicely.
Anyone who doesn’t react to the Vader lightsaber scene the way you did isn’t a Star Wars fan (I know someone will bark at me for that. LOL) I just remember sitting in the theater at that moment and literally saying “Holy Shit!!!” out loud. So amazing.
The old guy that "looks so weird" is Grand Moff Tarkin (played by Perter Cushing). He looks weird because he is CGI. He was in the original Star Wars and died in 1994. Since this is a prequel to the original story (which leads directly into where the beginning of Star Wars: A New Hope begins) Grand Moff Tarkin's role was important in this film, and they used CGI to include him. They (obviously) did the same with Princess Leia's character at the end.
I find it funny they CG Peter Cushing back from the dead for this flick. Turns out the main vampire killer of the 70s was the undead the whole time. He was just off'n the competition I guess.
Ben Mendelsohn, who played Director Krennic, also played another great bad guy in Ready Player One; Nolen Sorrento. He also portrays Talos, the shape-shifting leader of the Skrulls, in Captain Marvel. In another MCU tie in, Jin's father, Galen Erso, was played by Mads Mikkelsen, who was also in Dr. Strange as Kaecilius.
Not a soul would be mad at you. Rogue One is a fantastic film thoroughly. Glad you've see the films. I am betting you'll still enjoy the sequels. I don't, but that's me, so I want to see what a first watch through reaction is for you. Keep well.
Peter Cushing been dead for decades he wasn't available for the shoots, but I saw this opening night shortly after Carey Fisher died, and when that reveal happend the theater exploded and I'm not kidding it got a standing ovation
One of the cool things about the Vader scene is that the reason the rebels couldn't get the door open was because Vader was using the Force to keep it that way. All while doing that beautiful massacre.
Commenting while starting to watch: This is my favorite of all the Star Wars movies. I seent this in my reccomends and I literally said out loud "Rogue One? Man, shut the fuck up" and clicked.
The hallway scene never gets old. It's fantastic. This is by far the best of the newer movies that have been released over the last 10 years. One of the things that really makes it stand out as well is that everyone dies. Just like in real life, the heroes don't always make it out alive. Life isn't all sunshine and rainbows.
The "T-15s are obsolete" chitchat was a reference to the stormtroopers in A New Hope who were chatting about the new T-16s when Obi-Wan distracted them so he could disable the Death Star's tractor beam. And yeah Grand Moff Tarkin was CGI because Peter Cushing is dead. I for one didn't need to see their uncanny Frankensteined version of him in this movie. The 2 seconds of CGI Carrie Fisher at the end were weird enough.
Something that I loved about this movie, which is something you kind of caught onto as well, was this isn’t a movie about Jedi. There is no superhero. This is literally just individuals, soldiers, outcasts, making a difference. There’s no mythical Force to save them. It’s one of the most gritty and human of the Star Wars.
Congrats on reaching 50k!! Well deserved & I know the channel will just continue to grow. So looking forward to finally meeting Blank. Also looking forward to Jalloween.
To make that Vader corridor scene even crazier is the FACT that it almost never happened! It was just a few months for the film to come out & a camera man, yes, comes up with this idea of a scene! It was never in the script! This camera dude felt that they should have Vader going full beast mode to wrap up the film & just because "why the hell not!?" This moment was a last minute idea out of the blue from a person without any creative control what so ever & is now regarded among the top best scenes in all of SW! And we came so close to never even having it.
"Glorious" is the perfect word for that Vader scene! As epic as it was makes it even crazier that the next lightsaber fight in the timeline is that underwhelming and rigid duel between him and Obi-Wan in ep 4.
It never ceases to amaze me with just how many casualties the black armored storm troopers inflicted upon the rebels. All because of their highly advanced and superior training, such as ‘take cover’ and ‘fire from prone positions’. Unlike the standard storm trooper tacts of ‘stand in the open’ and ‘fire blindly while running straight at the enemy’.
I was at a 3D printing convention this weekend where they had a couple of lies sized RT-DTs and other dogs that moved around and had sounds and lights.
I'm not a Star Wars guy, but watching the delight on your face during the Vader scene, and your reaction when you realized Donnie Yen more than made up for that! Absolutely priceless! Great job, J! Now, when JLoween is over, you need to schedule some of Donnie's older stuff when he wasn't so serious all the time and was having fun. I'm thinking Wing Chun with Michelle Yeoh, or Iron Monkey (the Wong Fei-hung flick, not the other kung fu film with the same title). Both are fantastic!
The song in Vader's headset during that scene is "The Girl from Ipanema." The same song plays in the elevator scene of The Blues Brothers (must see classic). Search:"Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz - The Girl From Ipanema (1964) LIVE".

Luke said, something to effect the effect of a new model being designed like an iPhone, the "T-15 is no longer in demand." Cuz, he didn't get as much money as he could have before, for a trade in or whatever 👍😁
The Vader hallway scene is what made this movie. That plus Donnie, K2, and some battle scenes.
I still felt more coming out of Ep. 7 as a movie.
The screaming in the theaters during the last 10min was deafening. I am so glad I got to see it in the theater.
You are one of the few reactors that make me belly laugh out loud. Love your channel!
Andor is one heck of a Star Wars show.
I remember seeing this in theaters and when I heard the breathing and saw that red saber ignite I got chills and screamed!
You should really watch the Obi-Wan series.
Full theater opening night that scene blew everyone away. Crowd went ape shit.
Agree on Obi Wan series.
I’m loving your Star Wars journey, every time I get to see someone else fall in love with it it’s like reliving it myself
The movie is so good. The show Andor is even better. Tony Gilroy is brilliant! I’ll be locked in when you watch the show. 👍🏽
this is the 2nd best Star Wars movie after Empire Strikes Back of course, A New Hope is awesome but Empire got grit and high stakes, betrayal and Han and Leias love story!
Grand Moff Tarkin was played by Peter Cushing in Episode IV: A New Hope. He died in 1994, so they reconstructed him with CGI.
We could make a drinking game out of the amount of times you say stfu during the entire reaction 😂
The "CGI person" was Guy Henry, who provided the physical presence and voice of the late Peter Cushing (who's face was superimposed on his own). Peter Cushing, who died in 1994, played Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars: A New Hope (1977).
One of my fav SW movies - can’t wait!
It was beautiful, it really was, I'm actually so glad you took the time to say that on here in the youtube edit.
Hahaha "The happieest song playing in his muthafuckin head"
Glad you enjoyed this one and the vader scene...this movie makes me want to jump right back into to a new hope after it brings the movie together so nicely.
my parents came home and did exactly that:)
K2-SO and Chopper are my spirit animals.... 🤣
K2-SO is voiced by Alan Tudyk (Wash from Firefly, and Wat from A Knight's Tale). That's why you love his personality.
23:15 "Hey man he looks kind of funny" He says of the dead guy who's entirely CGI 😂😂
Both great actors!
What??? Confirmed??
Why you suppose Vader didn't just "Force Erase" the Death Star plans off of that data disk?
@@ornotgortwormiii8731 he didn't have the OS downloaded?
@@stephenochosiete9869 I read about it a while ago. I think it's just a theory.
23:15 yes he is CG, he was in the very first star wars movie a new hope, His name is Peter Cushing born 26 May 1913 - 11 August 1994.
47:32 Aye if there is a perfect way to go it's that. On a beach with a sunset watching world explode. Low key beautiful.
This reaction is by far your most emotional connection to the Star Wars series.... thanx for the series reaction... glad you loved the Movies...
Another great reaction, this is probably my favorite star wars movie. And donnie yen is always a win
Commenting while starting to watch: This is my favorite of all the Star Wars movies. I seent this in my reccomends and I literally said out loud "Rogue One? Man, shut the fuck up" and clicked.
The Vader scene in the theater on opening day was one of the best things I've ever experienced.
I watched this in theaters. My face lit up watching that Darth Vader scene!
The CGI guy is ‘Grand Moff’ Wilhuff Tarkin, Palpatine’s lapdog. He was from ‘A New Hope’ alongside of Vader and the actor passed away years ago.😎
Peter Cushing…✌🏼
@@barrygross77 Can’t believe I forgot his name seeing that I was such a big fan of his back in the 70s along side of Christopher Lee.😎
This is the purest most beautiful reaction of this film I've seen to date. I love it. You're a beautiful human.
It's amazing how many times you hear "WTF is that? " when watching Star Wars, a series loaded with alien creatures. 😂
This is my first time watching this movie, I feel you on being emotional. Idk how and idk when it happened but I am officially a Star Wars fan.
Yes he is CGI,the original actor (Peter Cushing) from A New Hope passed away many years ago.
It's fantastic that we saw Vader be incompetent?
That might be the greatest t-shirt I have ever seen.
A perfect comment. Thank you.
Peter Cushing (Governor Tarkin) died in 1994. This is a CGI version with the voice being performed by Guy Henry.
My mans is always rocking the best shirts
That was underwhelming but Vader straight SHOWED HIS ASS in Episode 5 of Obi Wan. He was a full on menace.
@nyronfranklin5789 what are you talking about Obi Wan straight annihilated his ASS!
yeah sadly the tech at the time made that one kinda bad at least empire makes it somewhat better.
I watched the ending like 150 times.. it's sooo good.
Loved how much you loved this one.
I couldn't wait to see your face when Vader cuts through them like butter.
Donny was very underused.
This is a great one. The way this movie ends is so great because it’s the way a new Hope begins.
@10:09 “Ain’t that who that is?” Yep! 🤣
The song in Vader's headset during that scene is "The Girl from Ipanema." The same song plays in the elevator scene of The Blues Brothers (must see classic).
Search:"Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz - The Girl From Ipanema (1964) LIVE".
