For those who are saying the video is inspired from SQ's, I would say no. South East Asian Airlines are adapting the same theme as well to showcase country's people, culture and tourism - e.g. Philippine Airlines inflight safety video. No comparison, everyone is unique in many different ways. By the way they keep it with the Cantonese version too - kudos! 👏
Very vibrant video and love the nostalgia effect of Wong Ka Wai days of cinema in some parts but I have to say while it is an increasingly common and sensible practice to infuse local culture and tourism into flight safety video, parts of CX new safety video were still quite resemblant of SQ's for e.g. the scene where the baggage was stowed under and fastening the safety belt. Nonetheless Qantas started this way before SQ so it can't claim all the credit 😊.

Although concept is quite similar to SQ - why not ! I think it’s great to showcase some of the amazing things about HK. What I like especially is the backdrop of HK is there, yet the director makes sure to zoom in and hone in on the safety details like the life vest and oxygen mask- it’s not just a safety video glossing over the safety aspects. As a CX ex-crew, this is one of the best changes ever in recent years. Not only does it showcase the picturesque sceneries in Hong Kong, but it also gives all passengers a sense of what Hong Kong is like before the plane lands at HKG. I especially like the transition between the red lanterns and the escape path lights. Well done Cathay! Maybe we can all look forward to the new uniform real soon (?) I honestly can't wait!

I wouldn’t say Cathay is copying any airline It’s just a pretty common “trend” “theme” for new safety videos. Such as Lufthansa’s and Air France’s new safety videos
It’s obviously inspired by SQ’s but it’s a good thing as hong kong’s charms are so unique. Plus the tone and vibe of the video is very different from SQ’s so that’s nice too. I actually prefer this as it’s more fast paced
