The 4th generation eye pipe that is in the DSR is 60% thicker then the 3rd generation. The eye pipe eliminates the need for eye covers. No tiny eye cover screws to strip out. No breach wear just replace your eye pipe after years and years of usage.
2 years after this review and the DSR still holds up fairly well. In this price range the amp is the only thing that beats it. Shot quality it reminds me of my geo 3.5 more then a luxe. To say the 160r is better is insulting.
the information is really good abd i thought the review was great BUT put a little more excitement into it. very monotone and boring to listen to GET EXCITED you have great information
@@QTPaintball don’t GET EXCITED that’s so annoying. I hate that toxic UA-cam yelling and acting like they’re super excited when it’s really not that exciting. Great job I know this is old but yeah.
I had a similar problem with the asa moving down, little did I know you have to pull the lever over the little nob on there and it will lock it. It’s kinda hard when gassed up but I read from a dye tech on pbnation that’s how to lock it. That could have also been why you maybe got bolt stick because mine would actually come down and de gas leaving me miss firing a couple shots until I realized
Hey, good find! I see what you're talking about with the notch! It is quite a hard push to get it over the notch, very secure. My only concern looking at it is the plastic lever getting a permanent indentation so it loses its "friction" passing over the notch. Eventually nullifying the "security" from it haha. Thanks for the tip. I talked to a DYE tech and they kind of quickly thought maybe my tank output pressure was too high... I have a Ninja SL tank with 2 shims out at the time (currently I believe none) I have not been able to test the new output pressure yet.
That was actually a marker I was trying to get for the past few weeks... A bit more than I would like to spend. Taking a break looking for one. They have always intrigued me. I like the shot on them alot. The bolt design and air routing is actually really cool. Something I definitely want to show off on the channel.
QT Paintball true. I was able to pick up a good condition used one for $850. Dye guns don’t seem to hold their value that well but great for used purchasers.
Hi, I don't think I can wholeheartedly recommend either of them, unfortunately. All pending on the paint sizing in your area, you're taking a gamble on the reliability of the marker... Hence the reason for the new 4th gen eye pipe. They have an issue with small paint and the eye pipe can cause double feeding or paint sits loosely in the chamber causing it either to smack and break the ball, or clip the next ball in the stack... The 4th gen eye pipe has not entirely fixed this issue which plagues the M2, DSR, and M3s. The quick revision to the M3+ was an attempt to fix this issue
Hi, I did a follow up video after this one finding a rather large mechanical flaw of the marker. Dye has since been slowly releasing updated parts as "upgrades" to help resolve it's issue of handling small fragile paint.... M2, M3s had similar issues, hence why the MS+ came out only months after the M3s. Due to these issues and the way it has been handled I personally wouldn't recommend the DSR. Better off getting the 160r or XLS
Agreed! Generally though, the grips are a pain remove even without the screws. Since the DSR doesn't have a large screen on the side. I see no reason why they couldn't have just added two more screws and went with a more conventional design.
Hm, personally I would get the XLS. Though an older platform. You get a nice shot, great barrel, and ergonomics. I will give that the DSR has probably a more robust system with the Arc bolt, but the XLS is relatively reliable too
@@QTPaintball Any update on this? I've been OCD researching every new marker (down to the 160r and DSR) and for the life of me can't decide. Just when I start to think I've figured it out, I see your video and it's making me lean more towards the 160r again. HELP! lol
@@andrewhardman3053 yes, I made an update video on the DSR a couple weeks ago. To sum it up. I have sold the marker due to inconsistent reliability issues pending on paint sizing. I replied to a comment from an individual asking whether to get the DSR or M2 (check my comments on this page for a detailed explanation and or my update video). Until Dye figures out ANOTHER eye pipe performance/ reliability will vary, which for me, is not good enough. If your decision is between the 160r vs DSR. Without question, the 160r is the more solid performer across the board.
@@QTPaintball Thanks for the response! I actually went through your channel after I posted this message last night and saw your comments and follow up video. Here's a question for you - do you have a marker recommendation in the $4-600 (used) price range? The 160r feels like a solid choice, but I'm sure there are other options out there (Luxe, LV1, CS series, Geo, etc..). Essentially, do you see more value in another marker, not named the 160r. Thanks again, great channel. Looking forward to more videos in the future.
@@andrewhardman3053 That is the mother of all questions. Very complex haha. Especially out of the used market. Personally, I love PE, they embody what I look for out of a paintball marker. Reliability / function over form. I just picked up a LV1.1 for $560 and a CS1 for $500. In my opinion, they both were at one point the BEST markers in the industry. Obviously, the LV platform is showing its age slightly more than the CS1 interms of disassembly, but they are still very relevant markers today and have great value for the money. In rough approximate order lol My personal criteria in general looking at a marker: Reliability > Ergonomics > Serviceability > Looks (this list does not necessarily reflect that, for example the CS1 is not more reliable than the 160r) sort of descending in price $600 to $400 - CS1 - LV1.1 / LV1 - Luxe Ice (if you're feeling extra) - 160r / Stealth - Etha 2 - Shocker XLS - Bob Long Onslaught / Insight / Victus (Do your research on BL prior to committing) - Shocker RSX I'm typically better being asked more direct questions on my opinions on specific markers. Hope this helps lol.

What is the name of the standard barrel front and standard barrel back that the marker comes with? Awesome video! 🤘

That's not bad for a M3+, I was shooting to get one for 750 haha. Almost
Tuning differences aside - a used DSR or a used M2 MOSair for $75 less?

Just don't put the grip screws in on the DSR grip. I never did on the one I had, they stayed on just fine.

Good review, I’ve been shooting the DSR for a while haven’t had that bolt stick issue yet but thanks for the heads up.
Thanks! Yeah I'm wondering if I don't have the updated parts and that could be a reason. I have to look into this as perhaps being the culprit.
