- Half Moon Cay, Little San Salvador Island, Bahamas
Half Moon Cay (pronounced Key) is a private island, which was known as Little San Salvador Island till Holland America changed the name to Half-Moon Cay, in honor of one of Henry Hudson's ships. Holland America Line purchased the island for $6 million US dollars in December 1996. When the island it is not being used by Holland America, Carnival Cruise Line ships make port there bringing guests to the island with tender boats to enjoy the nine miles of crescent shape beach which stretch along the vibrant blue waters. Half Moon Cay also serves as a nature preserve as Holland America takes great strides to maintain the ecosystem of this pristine island as only 45 acres of the 2,500 acre island have been developed. Half Moon Cay mostly is mostly a deserted island when ships are not in port no more than 20 year round caretakers reside on the island. Workers from Eleuthera Island come to work at the Fort San Salvador Welcome Center marketplace along with staff members from the cruise ship that work in the cafeteria style food serving area that is not far from the swimming area of beach. Half Moon Cay has been voted the "Best Private Island" by Porthole Magazine for four consecutive years.

I have been to Half Moon Cay several times. This place is lovely and peaceful!!
i love the white sand beach
Holland cruise line knew what they were doing when they bought this island. lovely
Me gusta mucho
I went there last october ... i would have stayed there for the rest of my life if i could.
Pretty, but having to get there by tender was a serious problem. We got stuck sitting outside the docking area while other tenders docked from two other ships- in the ocean with large swells, no air movement. I was dizzy the rest of the day. We went back to the ship as soon as there was room on a tender....didn't even eat lunch there.
hello, waving at you
thank you for the video. do you have to rent those half umbrella blue shade things?
Not my idea of an idyllic Caribbean beach!
I've always wanted to go on a glass bottom boat in the ocean. Do you know if I will I be able to do that nearby? Thanks
so i did not necessary need to buy tour tickets? bc i can spend the whole day there. waiting for july !!
