Mate you are a legend, don't see too many Americans that know Rose Tattoo, been listening to them since the 80's.
The song revolves around a pub that used to be at Bondi called the Astra. The Astra Wally lines ‘He gets around with caps in his hat’ and ‘Go ahead Wally and kill another friend’ and Astra Wally is supercool’, refers to dealers selling heroin that could easily be bought at this pub in the 70’s and 80’s. The pool room at this pub was like a drug supermarket where a person could get anything to snort, smoke, inject or swallow. Pubs like The Astra were common in Sydney at that time. It’s well known that Angry Anderson hates heroin, the people who sold it and what it does to the junkies hooked on it. That’s the back story of the song.
Remember when old mate got shot in the pool room? Around '81 or so. Spent a fortune on drugs at the Astra.

Sorry to hear about your stuff getting stolen. "Astra Wally " is about a drug dealer who used to sell stuff at the Astra Hotel at Bondi Beach here in Sydney. Thanks for doing these Rose Tattoo reactions. I used to see them around the time this album came out, they are a great live band. If you want more try "Bad Boy For Love" , "The Butcher and Fast Eddy" and "We Can't be Beaten".

where do i start. I listened to there first album from a friend of dads.He was a bloke i looked upted to, a real rebel! Dad took me to a concert to see them near Byron bay Australia ,back in 1979. At the age of 13, i was hooked! i'm now 55 with a tattoo of there first album on my arm, and still playing them loud as i can ! I just love there energy! As a teenager,no other band could give me that outlet of built up tension,convusion,of who i am.THis band gives me strenght,excitement,and a bloody fat smile on my face every time i play them.Mr Rock N Roll, thankyou so much for playing them! love ya mate!!! Fairly under rated band in Australia and their rock and roll is timeless just like the early Aussie AC/DC tracks still sound good today.

Not a bad song on that album or any other Rose Tattoo album. One of the best endings to a song ever there. Try Magnum Maid, sounds like your visitors need to have a date with one ;-)

The first Rose Tattoo album I bought aged 15 yrs 1978. I am now 62 yrs old & still play this album in my car & home music box. I use to go & see them live when I was 15 at the Tarmac Hotel in Laverton, Victoria Australia. I was a tall well built youngster so I passed for an 18 year old. I saw a lot of live bands back in the 80's. Due to lots of alchol & bongs, a lot of the 80's is a blur. 😇😜 But I had a great decade & thought it would never end. But all good things do end. 😭

The whole first album is pure aussie CLASSIC rock n roll. Astra Wally is my favorite. saw them a heap of times, stayed at the astra in 78 when i was a roadie. greatest australian hard rock album of all time.

Grew up with these and saw them as well as other great Aussie bands in the 80s. I think I watched these Live nearly every 3 weeks either in pubs or clubs n yes they were great days.But dude either take your hat off or I will fly over n super glue it to your effing head lol.Sydney girls was a good slower song back in the day when girls were girls n not woke trollops who want to called princess like these days 😆😁
