Kipor KGE3000TI Inverter Generator: No Start. Carburetor Cleanout & Load Testing

  • Had a customer who recently purchased a new Generac IQ3500 because this one would not start. It's a considerable amount of labor to disassemble and access the carburetor to clean it. I made him an offer of $75 USD to take it off his hands and we made a deal. He gave me an extra ignition key, the original manual, and thankfully the wheel kit!!
The machine is made in 2006 and the guy was using in his camper. It originally had the rubber feet. This generator is heavy, about 132lbs dry!! It has a quarter tank of fuel when filming so lifting it is not practical unless you eat a box of Wheaties for breakfast! I had to be extremely careful lifting onto the workbench. Wheels are the way to go.
Once I got access to the carburetor the repair was straight forward, gave it an hour in the ultrasonic cleaner and it was good as new again. The inverter was changed out a few years ago the former owner said so it has little run time on it.
Kipor is out of business in the USA, but in my research it looks like some Champion Generator parts may be able to cross with this generator. from what I can tell the build quality of the engine and stator are decent. It looks to be the inverter unit is the weakest link. Another channel was able to adapt a Champion inverter unit to this machine with some modification.
I will be selling this generator, but if anyone has questions I can help answer. I was able to get the service manual and schematic from Kipor in the UK (that division is still in business) in case I ever need to dig into the wiring.
Thanks for watching and supporting my channel!

Thanks to your video i realized that i have lost that little spring!!!
I couldn't understand why it was running very unstable .In my case i took apart the carburetor because i forgot to close the fuel valve during storage and gasoline flooded the whole engine!Maybe due to stuck float-needle.
I am lucky that i first checked the oil level before attempting to start it.👍👍👍

@@razor7799 absolutely! Thank you for watching! Yeah I mentioned it only because the spring went flying when I was taking things apart and thankfully I was able to find it.

Good video - lots of explanations which help neophytes like me. Should sell easily, and would be nice to have in an outage. Also, the RV folks will be interested. Thanks!

That carb spring looks just like the one on the EU2000i series. Honda Part# 36162-ZL0-D31

Pretty sure this Kipor is made by Champion. The more I research the more I'm finding similarities between the generators.
Edit: Kipor does make big generators, but they likely partnered with champion at their factory to make their generators. Just a guess but it seems very likely

What an awesome video mate! I just saw one for sale here in New Zealand. For 200 buck. 3000 watt. Probably gonna get it hey! 😅

Great video I'm actually looking at one of these today possibly going to buy it He's asking $200 though I think it's a little on the steam side especially since these parts are hard to find now

The carburetor battery and other basic stuff can still be had. For $200 and an inverter generator with 3000 watts I'd say is a good deal. I still have mine and I couldn't sell it for $300. Hopefully that puts into perspective.

Now that is a deal on that inverter and yep 100% correct these are a pain to tear down to repair but have excellent resale value. The OLD MAN at EP over and out! When we service generators we always installed engineered fuel right now the Gulf Pro Fuel that is good for 2 years when opened.

    GASP!!! $75!!!
I have this gen, (well, the IG3000) which I've had for a long time now. It's to be used as power backup if/when there's a power problem, especially in winter, that lasts more than a few minutes. Gotta keep the heat on! LOL
I bought it many years ago. It's been great. I paid a lot more than $75 as it was new. LOL
But I got a "deal" because the dealer that had it, had it sitting around for a long time on display and just wanted to get rid of it.
I was actually out looking for a Honda 3000 watt gen (the quiet one) but it was more than double the price of this "clone".
It's paid for itself since. No issues, no regrets.
Oh, as for the battery, I have it connected via a 12 gauge cable, sitting outside of the gen, to the front.
The gen is in a sound-reducing enclosure with powered ventilation.
I have clips on the wires so that I can quickly disconnect the battery when not in use.
    Works well.

i actuall y bought one of these generators at a thrist store as I was driving thru salt lake city ut. the guy told me it was his dads and it never really got used. i ran it for about 2 weeks and its not running now im going to pull the carb out im guessing its probably gummed up from sitting for so long.

Thank you for such a great video! By the way does this particular generator have a fuel drain to drain the tank? I haven't even started to dive into it yet but he said that when he fills with gas it leaks right out the bottom. Thanks again for all you do to make so many amazing videos I appreciate you.

    • @Bassguitarist1985

Thank you for watching! The fuel tank does have a petcock valve that goes directly to the carburetor. And the carburetor does have a bowl drain. There was no other method of draining the fuel out of the tank other than using a fluid extractor if the fuel has gone bad.
The petcock may have come loose or the o-ring seal that holds it to the tank has failed. That would be my guess without looking at it
