The whole place seemed abit dull, it was raining so we didn’t want to spend a lot of time outdoors. I think I’ll head back in the summer to see if it’s any better a year later.
Peterborough, in my opinion, is NOT the worst city in the UK! I've been there yesterday, and I loved it! It has a really nice cathedral, very well connected to London and many other great UK cities (such as York), a lovely square and beautiful architecture! Ok, sure Queensgate Shopping Centre isn't appealing, but you can't judge the entire city based just on one thing.
It has lots of awful areas like Orton Goldhay, Orton Malbourne, Bretton, Westwood, Ravensthorpe, Eastgate, Eastfield, Paston, Millfield, New England etc. Visit some of them and you will change your mind.
@@002lisamariemost cities do... places like Oxford and Cambridge have really shtty areas, Peterbrough has its fair share, but I live on tbe outskirts... within a 5 minute walk I can see the cities symphony orchestra at the local school theatre, I can go to a great comedy night in the function room in a pub 10 mins away... last night we saw a awesome gig at another function room nearby with 6 bands playing... in Nov UK Subs are playing at The Parkway club 15 min walk away... So yunno, absolutely not shite.
Cathedral and museum are the highlights for me, I'm more into history than shopping around - even though admittedly there are some good shops in the centre. Months back, I chatted with one fellow at the bus station, he was actually a barefooter (all weathers!) and he told me that every Saturday, during the late 90's, he enjoyed going to Peterborough on the train. On occasion he met up with family and they all went to an antiques shop down one of the streets (he'd long forgotten the name of the street). Caught sight of him every now and then, but haven't seen him for a while, sadly.
Three vacuous children walk around Peterborough, but without actually having anything to compare it to, except the stabbing capital of the UK, Nottingham. Mostly they talk about the weather and about their own poorly made travel plans.
@No Name It's a fun video. Their travel plans were fine, it's just the trains that let them down. Why call them vacuous? They seem like pretty decent lads to me.
Don't understand why this place is voted worst in the UK, it's clean and looks rather nice, not bad if it was a town but as a city there's not really a lot there, there are definitely a lot worse places
I am confused, you went to a very small part of the city centre and to the cathedral and you've seen Peterborough? Please guys go have another look. Peterborough has its very bad but also has very good. As for shops closed down that is a nationwide problem.
You went to Pizza Express. The founder Peter Boizot was born and bred in Peterborough. Boizot founded PizzaExpress in 1965, after having worked in Europe for ten years and noticing that he was unable to eat an authentic pizza slice in London. Boizot floated PizzaExpress on the London Stock Exchange in 1993 but remained president. His first restaurant opened in Wardour Street, Soho, London, to much acclaim, with a second PizzaExpress opening in 1967. He was also the first to import Peroni into the UK. Boizot's empire grew quickly because of its authentic Italian taste and unique artistic approach.
Fact is that Peterborough born n bred folk (silver tops) have moved out in their thousands to safer, quieter, prettier areas. Hence its inner city areas are now run down dumps where the words lawnmower and lick of paint are now redundant.
I’ve visited Peterborough and absolutely loved the cathedral too, it’s certainly a very important building; for example it has the oldest and largest medieval wooden ceiling surviving in Europe (around 1200 AD). I didn’t have time to explore much of the city at all, as I only came to see the cathedral, but I did absolutely love the other two Cambridgeshire cities of Cambridge and Ely (both extremely charming and filled with tonnes of beautiful historic architecture). I am surprised though that people feel Peterborough is the worst… I didn’t get that impression myself.
@@JungleBabaNick Sorry but that’s a very good thing. Modern architecture is a blight on the landscape, and skyscrapers/ tower blocks are NOT welcome in Cathedral cities. If I had the power, I would tear every last one of them down in London, and build in their place buildings that actually blend in with the surrounding historic architecture. “Modern” glass and steel skylines are for bland and soulless North American cities (that have next to no history), and are not suited to Europe. That’s how I feel anyway.
@@tamaracarter1836 You loved the cathedral? Do you like all scams or just capitalism's religion scam? It's an important building is it? For people who believe in fairies, maybe, but hardly for sane people. Unless you like exploiting the ignorant and the poor?
Now let me see; worst cities for crime, in no particular order: Nottingham, Doncaster, Bradford, Teeside, and Birmingham. Peterborough nowhere near these
if you know what you're doing, where you're going, etc, there's a ton more to do and see. didn't help it was raining so it probably looked a lot worse than it is. i live in peterborough and i've definitely been in worse places great video though, you are really uunderrated! Thats a sub from me
Great video Logan ,I think the problem with Peterborough is that ,cathedral aside the shopping centre is just the same chain stores you see in every town Boots ,WH Smith's ,Waterstones Bookshop probably as a New Town expanded greatly from the 1970s you won't find old streets full of independent shops like York 🙂
0:03 "peterbrugh" you can't even spell it, and to say Peterborough is UK's worst city is laughable. Coventry, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, London, Liverpool etc are a lot lot worse
Peterborough is not just the city centre guys, I think you'd perhaps enjoy the numerous skate parks, ice rink, speedway, sailing, wake boarding, paddle boarding, archery and many other sports, there's a small local museum in town and Flag Fen Archeological site & recreation of how people lived (including actual recreations of the buildings) over 3000 years ago. + woods, lakes and so on, there is much more to Peterborough it's just not all in the town centre. Perhaps you should come back to Peterborough with more of an idea of what you want to see or do
@@LoganSpooner I hope if you do come back to Peterborough you go further than the City Centre (don't go to Lincoln Road), you need to go to the different neighbourhoods. Perhaps get yourselves a Day Rider which you can use on any Stagecoach Citibus for the whole day. Even the shops here are not all in the city centre. It's a bit of an odd place and takes some getting used to, I'm not a Peterboroughian and found it very strange and unusual when I moved here, I was used to the more traditional set up for towns and cities, Peterborough doesn't follow those rules. Yes, we do have rundown areas like all cities do, but we some very lovely areas too and not all on show some are hidden behind buildings or within estates
Peterborough gets a bad rep, its got a beautiful cathedral, saved by Henry VIII in the dissolution of the monasteries. One of the best preserved bronze age sites in the world, the Fens on the doorstep, the best bits just not bigged up enough by the council
@@LoganSpooner because of all the moaners who live here who think Love Island is the height of culture. However the council is doing a fantastic job of turning it into a REAL dump, come back in a few years and it may actually deserve that title.
As someone who lives in Peterborough, it really isn't that great. There's no opportunities for jobs aside from the hospital or the industrial areas. As for Queensgate they're doing a massive renovation on it so who knows if that'll improve it, one can hope so. There's some really nice nature spots just outside the centre along the river and the Nene valley railway. They are absolutely stunning in the summer. Overall though it is very lacklustre, and I can't wait to move away from it haha.
I think going back might be a good idea but it does need to be a day where it’s warm and potentially a weekend! I also might go and see a football match as it might have more life!
@@LoganSpooner Oh for sure man, there's usually something to do in the summer here. Going back a few years we had a festival called willow. Free entry and just live music. Sadly the council decided not to put it on since 2014. I miss it, was definitely the highlights of summer here for me 😂 I think they're planning on building a new stadium aswell.
This is a very poor video. You cannot judge a city by whether the trains are late and whether it is raining when you visit! What were the video makers expecting to find that they did not find? What characteristics do they consider a city should have to make it a "good city"? None of this is discussed.
...Let's not forget that serene and peaceful part of Peterborough. With fly rocks and bricks, infected needles etc. The good old ...Welland Estate! Fine if you own a house with a ten foot tall garden wall topped off with razor wire and go to work in an armoured vehicle dressed in your best body armour. ...God, I love Peterborough ♥️👍
As someone who is born and raised in Peterborough the worst city label is more of a joke. I could agree that to visit it's not too applying. It's more a place to be lived in. The River Nene is a pleasant sort, you've got the quayside with the Key Theatre, the town bridge, and there's also the Nene Valley Railway.
Something tells me, you choose a dreary day on purpose just to make it seem worse than it actually is however you were not as harsh as I thought you might be...
Can’t lie, we just picked a date didn’t bother checking the weather. It would have been better in the sun but nonetheless i still believe it to be not as interesting as other cities
The cathedral is fantastic, but the town has nothing to offer beside it. Its an unmissable stop for someone who wants to see every cathedral in the country, for anyone else its pointless. Theres not much else historic around, so you dont really get the same feeling as you would at Durham, York, or Norwich.
I found this searching where I live, Peterborough Canada (pop. 85,000). This Peterborough looks much more interesting! I mean, it has an old cathedral! And a train station! How cool is that?!
@@LoganSpooner I wish we still had trains here, that use to be the the only way to travel. They got rid of the tracks years ago, now there's miles and miles of bicycle paths!

I lived in Peterborough most my life & finally got out of it 4yrs ago. Best thing I did as it has gone down hill & does look a mess. Ya definitely should had explored more & see more places shut & more looks a mess. Some places are struggling to keep looked after & nice. Ive moved & The village I now live inn half hour drive away is tidy & 80% of the village are proud of it, no theft, no touching people stuff, buy fruit & veg from from sellers gardens in the village & leave money in the loyalty tin without being touched. And the village is helping everyone to put Xmas lights up from home to home. Lovely village & I love it
Peterborough is not the worst city in England, far from it. A very beautiful and interesting city to live in and this is coming from someone that has lived in various parts of the country! I think your assessment is not balanced at all and perhaps a little more research before your visit may have unveiled the hidden beauty of this growing city.
If you had gone to the museum you could have seen the original Victorian operating theatre which has been kept as it was back in the day. You could also have visited the Nene Valley Railway and gone into Railworld while you were there. Please come back and see those places. Nene Valley Railway are crying out for people to visit as since Covid they have been very hard hit . They need as many visitors as possible to keep it running.
Actually apart from about 15% of places including London most the place is boring and pretty depressing and the weather is mainly to blame not to mention the long dark nights where it can be dark by 3pm - no wonder a lot of the people are take some kind of drug / medication 😞
Is Saxon road still the same? I grew up in Peterborough I've moved up to Chorley for 6 years and to be honest I don't miss Peterborough just miss my family

For a day it isn't bad but if you stayed a week or a month or a year you'd ve able to say its not great, I've lived here all my life but there must be worse places to live. Not sure if it was intended but the Pizza Express founder was from Peterborough.
I would say that I would stay for a few days but that's scary haha! As a day out - there is just nothing to do. (P.S. I had no idea that he was from Peterborough.)
Try spending a day in the UKs worst seaside town Hastings in East Sussex if you want to see a true doss hole inhabited by the worst sub humans ever to be encountered. Hastings is truly shocking, filthy, grotty and derelict. Many chose to live on the street rather than be housed in the nearby Warrior Square St. Leonards. Hastings Conquest Hospital is where one goes if having a desire to die! Fashion is anything that can be shop lifted from Primark without being caught by the PCSOs in a hot chase LOL! Even the bus shelters are the worst in Britain with one bus shelter in Queens Road having been trashed long ago and left a wreck by the local council. Hastings pier is a plank! Hastings Railway station is rank bad where the toilets are dreadful and only those desperate to have a slash go. Social Housing estates are seriously bad with single moms who cannot identify the father/s of their bratz are housed. One needs a criminal conviction to get Social Housing in Hastings E. Sussex. Hastings in East Sussex without doubt one of the worst locations in Britain if not the worst.
What are you talking about? I’ve visited Hastings and found it to be a really beautiful place (especially the Old Town), as I really love history and historic architecture. I really did not experience anything in your comment whatsoever…
I’m Peterborough born and bred, and I think it’s unfair to say it’s the worst in the UK. There are far crappier places in my opinion! What I would say though is that it’s a disappointing city. Minus the Cathedral, there’s nothing special about PB. Nightlife is shocking, daytime/evening activities are few and far between, and there’s just so many empty retail units. It sucks even more because when a decent space becomes available, you know full well it will be yet another B&M etc, it’s just so dull. You easily run out of things to do here, which is a shame because given the chance by the people in the city with money, I think it has real potential 👍🏻
I dreaded moving to Peterborough in 2016 (i lived with my patents at the time) but 7 years on my parents have moved away and i stayed. I dont think its even remotely as bad as people think. Just a bad rep from 20 or so years ago. Also, like most cities, Peterborough isnt just the city center, its massive and there are multiple shopping centers all over Peterborough, unfortunately for Peterborough though, the main one (Queensgate) is dying (due to very high rent and the departure of John Lewis i suspect) and being surpassed by the others, in Hampton (south Peterborough) and Brotherhood (north Peterborough).
What makes Peterborough the worst city in the UK? What were the things that you were looking for and looking to in Peterborough, was it to visit particular designated tourist spots, or to visit locations of daily services and commercial activity such as shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, internet rooms, gaming centres, and sports and physical creational areas? Were you looking for any events or locations of performing arts, visual arts, and fine arts? Are you into industrial tourism? By this I mean you visit sites of industrial activity varying from garages, carpentry workshops, and wood workers sheds, all the way up to large textiles plants, petrochemicals refineries, steel mills, and factories that make all sorts of machines varying from electric motors, to air conditioners, and unto chemicals processing equipment and excavators... Visiting various science labs with fancy gadgets that do research in material science, chemistry, and physics can also count as industrial tourism...
Peterborough Express was founded by Peter Boizot who grew up in the city. There's a big portrait of him as you enter the restaurant. I have no idea how you managed to get lost.
Peterborough was created for overflow workers in London it had a huge community of polish workers long before WW2. I live here since june 2019 and it's alright surrounded by highways i can go London within 1hr30 no queues... i deliver palletised goods nationwide and i see plenty of cities I don't know how people can survive in London jizz that traffic and so many CCTV cameras keen to give you a traffic fine lol

Have a look at the 650 acre Country Park only 2 1/2 miles from the city centre. Take a ride on the Nene Valley Railway. Don't be put off by the comments about Lincoln Road, it's perfectly safe.
The cathedral is a lot nicer on a summer's day too, many people sit on the lawn and eat lunch and sunbathe there on their lunch break. Night life is the big let down fir Peterborough

It's not a bad city, it's just there is better
Three vacuous children walk around Peterborough, but without actually having anything to compare it to, except the stabbing capital of the UK, Nottingham.
Mostly they talk about the weather and about their own poorly made travel plans.
Peterborough isn’t the only place we’ve ever been. Also, we spoke about the town and the lack of anything to do. (Tho our travel plans weren’t great)
@No Name
It's a fun video.
I can see why it’s rated the worse but sometimes you think it’s not actually that bad, it might be the residents that think it’s so bad
"Worst cities" always relates to the estates and surrounding areas rather than the actual city center
It’s not we live here and love it. Affordable and less crimes and clean
That’s fair.. it’s not that bad
@Fat man eating a pie on the bench football club no I live there it’s nice passion and gunthorepe are the worst

I am confused, you went to a very small part of the city centre and to the cathedral and you've seen Peterborough? Please guys go have another look. Peterborough has its very bad but also has very good. As for shops closed down that is a nationwide problem.
I've visited Peterborough a few times and it's quite a nice place. There are many much worse places to live and visit in the UK.
The best part is we didn’t even plan to go to PizzaExpress, it was a complete fluke. really interesting information though!!!
Update: After 3 years of being the 'worst uk city', on the 2022 list, Peterborough is now the 5th worst, no longer THE worst. big ups everyone :)
We aint the worst now 🤣
Oh, what's no.1 now?!

Interesting…
Fact is that Peterborough born n bred folk (silver tops) have moved out in their thousands to safer, quieter, prettier areas. Hence its inner city areas are now run down dumps where the words lawnmower and lick of paint are now redundant.
The city centre didn’t look too bad, didn’t get to see many of the estates
@@LoganSpooner yes to be fair the shopping centre is looking good and kept well, thanks.

Why why this his city gets delayed by 100000000 years
I’ve visited Peterborough and absolutely loved the cathedral too, it’s certainly a very important building; for example it has the oldest and largest medieval wooden ceiling surviving in Europe (around 1200 AD).
Don’t get me wrong, there is stuff to do but nowhere as much as any other city!
@@NeilMalthus I didn’t even mention religion in my comment. I suggest you read it again.
I went to London once and it pissed down, so I rated London a 1/10 based upon that.
Went to London the other day, it rained but it was still better than Peterborough as there was something to do.
@@LoganSpooner Don't visit North Wales!!!
Now let me see; worst cities for crime, in no particular order: Nottingham, Doncaster, Bradford, Teeside, and Birmingham. Peterborough nowhere near these
Peterborough really isn't that bad, there isn't that much there but there are definitely worse places in the UK.
HEY IM OFFENDED!! YOU SHOULDN'T HATE PETERBOROUGH ITS BETTER THAN WHAT YOU ARE LIVING!
we cant help that it was raining
if you know what you're doing, where you're going, etc, there's a ton more to do and see. didn't help it was raining so it probably looked a lot worse than it is. i live in peterborough and i've definitely been in worse places
great video though, you are really uunderrated! Thats a sub from me
Thanks for the tips! The rain wasn't nice to say the least and the delayed train didn't help either, but I'm such there is more too do
Great video Logan ,I think the problem with Peterborough is that ,cathedral aside the shopping centre is just the same chain stores you see in every town Boots ,WH Smith's ,Waterstones Bookshop probably as a New Town expanded greatly from the 1970s you won't find old streets full of independent shops like York 🙂
York aint nice, its depressingly old
0:03 "peterbrugh" you can't even spell it, and to say Peterborough is UK's worst city is laughable. Coventry, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, London, Liverpool etc are a lot lot worse
Simple spelling mistake, easily done. Peterborough isn’t that bad, but there is better and worse.
Perhaps you should come back to Peterborough with more of an idea of what you want to see or do
Well you might have a new video in Peterborough in september….
It does seem to have a bad rep, I’m not sure why
@@LoganSpooner we have a good football team
I wish being 'lacklustre' was it's worst fault. It's terrible.
This is a very poor video. You cannot judge a city by whether the trains are late and whether it is raining when you visit!
What were the video makers expecting to find that they did not find? What characteristics do they consider a city should have to make it a "good city"? None of this is discussed.
Not a great place for young people perhaps, but London is commutable and property is relatively inexpensive.
London only being an hour away isn’t too bad, it would definitely be a pro for me. I might go back in the summer to see what it’s really like!
Lincoln Road, Orton, Paston, Westwood, Eastfield, Fengate etc are all great places, just don’t go alone or in the dark lol 🤪
😅😅
...Let's not forget that serene and peaceful part of Peterborough.
Live very close to Peterborough and trust me it’s fairly sad, but far far worse is Boston
The only reason I know what Peterborough is is because google once told me it was the 2nd largest city in England

Well….
Every city in England has both here! Infact most cities have more than one train station and there’s trains going in and out all day!

Lovely village & I love it
Do you live in Welland
Peterborough is not the worst city in England, far from it. A very beautiful and interesting city to live in and this is coming from someone that has lived in various parts of the country! I think your assessment is not balanced at all and perhaps a little more research before your visit may have unveiled the hidden beauty of this growing city.
Thinking about heading back on a nicer day to see what’s happening there… not much I could find online before though….
Wholeheartedly agree. So many hidden gems.
Actually apart from about 15% of places including London most the place is boring and pretty depressing and the weather is mainly to blame not to mention the long dark nights where it can be dark by 3pm - no wonder a lot of the people are take some kind of drug / medication 😞
Is Canters still in operation there? Used to be a great place in the mid 80s
Is Saxon road still the same? I grew up in Peterborough I've moved up to Chorley for 6 years and to be honest I don't miss Peterborough just miss my family
Saxon Rd is still a hell hole.

You went to 2 places on a rainy day on a Tuesday in town when there was no event going on, we have ferry meadows city park serpentine green, key theatre and river banks, another theatre showcase cinema oh and puttstars up in queensgate, a bowling alley and the rest and great access links to the rest of the country, house prices aren’t going up here for nothing, there’s much worse places.
How can you rate a city with out seeing what's here there's a lot more than cathedral but you did not venture cause it was raining
How does me going back and spending a whole day there sound...? Then we can get another opinion!
You also say it’s dead but it’s passing it down with rain
After giving it a google, this seems like a good video idea so I will looking at doing it next year when I start uploading again!

Also, like most cities, Peterborough isnt just the city center, its massive and there are multiple shopping centers all over Peterborough, unfortunately for Peterborough though, the main one (Queensgate) is dying (due to very high rent and the departure of John Lewis i suspect) and being surpassed by the others, in Hampton (south Peterborough) and Brotherhood (north Peterborough).
if you live in hampton you could always go to town

It’s not a large city so what were u expecting to find in the centre exactly
I’ve been to towns with more to do in the city centre. There were more closed shops than open shops and it was pretty deserted.
I don't think Peterborough is the worst. I have been to other cities and Peterborough is not the worst.
you should try sheffield and you will regret going there
Been to Sheffield a couple of a days ago and it’s a decent city, didn’t regret it at all really
It would take a brave person to walk around certain areas of this place at night
I wouldn’t even think about it
What makes Peterborough the worst city in the UK?
