Wow, I read this book as a kid more than 50 years ago. Haven't thought about it in years, so what a treat it was to see this pop up! Thanks for posting this!
This was the first real, not comic book, book that I ever read back in 1958. It got me started on a lifetime of reading and to this day I still consider it very precious to me. When I got married in 1966 i introduced my wife to Robert Heinlein's books and she became a fan as well. She once got a letter from Robert's wife that she currently keeps in her keepsakes. We also have a library of just about all of his books.
I had knocked off the Hardy Boy mysteries when the librarian suggested this very book. That was about 50 years ago. I've been a Heinlein and scifi fan ever since. By the way, the Audio book of the Rolling Stones comes with a FULL cast! Libby should be everyone's friend.
Awesome! Thanks for this video. This was one of the 1st full books I ever read; I was on the other side of the country visiting my grandparents for the summer and nothing to see (just buildings, no countryside, and just reruns on TV), no friends, and eventually bored outta my mind (as much as I loved my grandma and grampa) and this was the book I picked up while out one day with them. Talk about an awesome escape. Even got my friends hooked on it by telling them all about it (in what must've been a hyped up state). Ironically, for such an impactful book, I haven't thought about it in decades until very recently.
I read this amazing book in 1959 and was Hooked ! I made it a goal of reading every single one of them. Also I love the original illustration ! (Edit for book illustration)
The cover art was one of the things that attracted me the most when I first saw the book in the bookmobile. Attention is often placed on the book but the cover art is ignored and it is a beautiful piece of art in itself. There were in fact two, that I know of, different cover Arts. The one you're showing actually shows how the spacesuit itself was a character, as you said. I started reading very young with comic books, and I believe it was the cover art that attracted me to the book in the first place.
I recently read The Rolling Stones by Heinlein. I found it kinda corny, but I also found out where the idea for The Trouble With Tribbles episode of Star Trek was "borrowed" from.

The craft that seemingly moved by pure thoughts and clean living.
This was my second Heinlein novel ("Red Planet" being the first) and 9-year old me was blown away.

NotebookLM is amazing.

One of my 1st.
Pretty good for AI, by the way.
Is this made using Notebook LM?
Yes. A great tool to summarize content and to create content about hidden of forgotten gems like this novel.
