I use the MRC1 with my Sony HDR-FX1E and it works at maximum ! It's just heavy, really heavy with the cam itself, the MRC1 then my 72mm fisheye lens but... Its just amazing !!
I have found the MRC1 has a bug with the Canon XHA1 and Canon XHA1S where it goes into computer mode randomly when used with this camcorder. Did you have this issue at all? There is a workaround involving ejecting the card and removing the FW cables but it's annoying and time consuming so would be interested to hear how you got on with it. I've moved one of my XHA1s over to use the DN-60,
Hi Brandon If you have a Sony HVR Z5/7 these recording units will clip on the back of those camcorders and use the Z5/7 battery for its power ,it also eliminates the need for a firewire cable connection, which also makes it much lighter and easier to carry around. If used with (some) Sony camcorders the record button on the camcorder will also switch on the MRC to record mode, and I believe to playback mode.I have tried mine with a Canon XM2 (GL2) and it worked OK and also with a Panasonic camcorder.
@@brandoncameracollection Yes it will work with the Z1 ,but it will not attach to it,only the Z5 OR Z7,as they have the dedicated mounting for the MRC.
@@alanvanallen7762 I've got a Z1U. Will it capture all the modes, different iso same as the cassette? Also, in your opinion does it capture a better picture recording on Sony HVR-MRC1 vs the cassette tape on your Z1U? Thanks.
@JimmyVincent-fg3kt I think it should be able to record all formats. I think it has to be captures to the tape first unless you’re going tapeless. And I think they quality comparison is the exact same as tape
I'd like a non-invasive tapeless vhs-c camera mod, where you can solder a chip or compact device you solder to your camcorder, inside the housing of your VHS-C Camcorder.
Had a quick question for tapeless I found Sony HVR-MRC1 for a good price but it’s just the memory recording unit. Is it possible to buy the link cradle back part and still be able to use it and does it matter what region it came from? Thanks
Well you can get a bigger battery for it but it will add quite a bit of weight. The battery I’m using seems to hold a charge for quite a while. I don’t think the mrc1 takes a lot of power
@@brandoncameracollection thx for answer! i use datavideo dn-60 recorder w/ pd100 and trv900, it's light and powered by 4xAA but it lack some function that has mrc1 like delete seperate recorded files

did you ever figure out why there are two record buttons? perhaps the button on the right is for chapter markers, meaning it will split the file at that point? Not sure...
Hi! Thank you for all your videos, I just got the gadjet and when I transfer the footage to my computer it comes up as an AVI file, so I can't open it in quick time and can't even put it into Davinci. Any way to change the format? Or do I literally need to convert every single video every single time? thanks again!
I have a Panasonic PV-GS83 Mini-DV camcorder and the firewire port is behind the battery, meaning it can only be used when plugged into power directly into the wall. I guess I can't use this?
hello! Is the Sony HVR-MRC1 compatible with my Camera Canon canon dm-xm1, it does have firewire port, and is very similar to Sony VX 1000, but dont know if it will work.??
It should work although my canon gl1 is the only camera my mrc1 didn’t want to work with. So I’m thinking it’s something to do with my camera. So yes it should work fine
For anyone who has experience with this topic or set up, does capturing raw footage via a firewire really make that tangible of a difference visually compared to if I were to just use an S video to HDMI cable to link to a capture device like a Clear Click or something expensive like a Atomos Ninja V in a less compressed format like AVI or something?
Did you touch the CAM LINK settings when you hooked it up to the camera, im waiting for memory card to come in so i can use it with the vx1000, thats the only part in the manual confusing me a bit
hey man! i grabbed a mcr1k for my vx1000 along with both the extreme 32gb and extreme pro 32gb cards. I can't seem to get it to record. I press both record buttons and nothing happens. I suspect its maybe the cable i bought so ive ordered another. But any insight would be dope!
Yeah I had that issue as well with most of my cameras. I think it should be the cable. At least it was for me. If you bought one of those clear cables that could be the issue. If the cable feels like it sits loosely in the 4 pin side then it probably isn’t getting a good connection. So hopefully your new cable will work, if not I will try to help troubleshoot with you 😁

You got a great deal on this unit, Brandon! I bought one several years ago for my Canon XHA1S. Thanks for your tutorial and review!

In the settings make sure you have it set to DV RAW and not AVI and that should fix it
what file format do you have yours set to? Raw DV or AVI?
AVI
Could you also test Focus Enhancements FSH200 or FS4. I’m curious to know the difference since the FS are usually cheaper

@@brandoncameracollection a stupid design indeed. the worst part it’s an obscure voltage ( 7.9 Volts DC ) and i can’t find the cable anywhere
@HotDrPepper I think you can get away with the voltage a little higher than that. So if you can find an 8.0 volt you should be ok

The issue is that you will have a lot of access cable running the s video idea. Especially because s-video doesn’t have audio.
