    Bought 028 Super for Dad's Christmas 35 years ago. Based upon recommendation of hometown OPE dealer. Routine maintenance. Still running strong.

      I love my 028 super, what a nice saw they are. Mine is getting a little temperamental to start, I’m probably going to rebuild it soon.

    Man when that tree hit the ground I thought it was going to the next county. Nice video Davey really didn’t enjoy watching you split the rounds though brought back bad memories of the days before the Split Fire 3403 was in my life. Take care brother.

    Dang that was a huge slam when it came down!
    Looks still pretty green, did you measure the moisture level?
    I like me some hand splitting here and there. It's fun for half an hour, but not if you HAVE to do it ;)

    That trunk sounded really heavy when it hit the ground. Maybe 8,000 lbs? Surprising because it’s a very fast growing soft wood. Also tree of heaven is very invasive

    • @OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm

      Yes those trees are a nuisance, really soft and dense wet wood. Your right super heavy! The tree hit hard, I felt it. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Dave I have a 028 AV super. I learned something new today it will pull a 24-in bar well at least yours will! I'm going to have to try mine with a 24 inch bar. Keep up the great videos. I also have a 20-in bar. I'll see which one it pulls the best. It's got a 16-in bar on it right now.

    • @OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm

      Hey! Thanks for watching and commenting, it sure is a great saw. I’d say it would be better paired with the 20” but it does well with the 24” too. I believe I just swapped bars off my 290 with a 390 big bore for this video. Eh either way it runs great! Take care and happy sawing!!

      @@OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm Most comfortable w 18" Fortunately have bigger saws for 24"" or more. Could also noodle some of the big rounds to manageable for hand splitting,.but log spliter way to go.

    That i bet turned out to be a huge problem not treating that stump. TOH is invasive and will have shoots sprout up from its roots. Id like to know how many toh sprouts are in that area due to this cutting

    • @OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm
      @OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm  2 роки тому

      Bryan thanks for watching, yes it is invasive but I haven’t seen an increase in the number of sprouting, it is near a pasture field and if maintained, mowed it’s not an issue. I unfortunately have 5-6 large Ailanthus trees in that area so it will always be a battle until I get them all removed and can maintain the ground.

      I use steel wedges and hammer on a round. The wedge is placed in a nice ray or crack. Cuts way down on all those ineffective splitting ax hits!
      Then when I have my quarter splits or whatever, I lift them and place them on a large wheeled log carrier and simply haul them to my gravel driveway where I finish splitting with my x27 36" ax.
      The gravel provides the best surface because it's good and hard, but if you should suffer a missed strike or bad swing or swing all the way through, your splitting ax blade edge will not be damaged.
