  • Every emotion is important. However there is one emotion that is crucial for our survival and evolution! Inside Out has one of the few positive portrayals of this emotion, and it is just another reason why it is the best Pixar film to date (in my opinion).

      @flopperdoctor1302 disgust is actually important and we use it on our daily basis. disgust helps us with our judgement, cynical thinking, biases, morals, prevention or expression of embarrassment, superficial traits and overall appearance. just think of the preparation for a job interview as an example. we need disgust to help us look presentable, express ourselves in a likeable way and it helps us express opinions and experience in questions due to disgust controlling our judgement and cynical thinking

    Fear and Disgust prevent you from accidentally killing yourself.
    Joy prevents you from purposely killing yourself.
    Sadness allows you let out your negativity and signal that you need help.
    And anger helps you stand your ground.

    ALSO in the movie, Fear must be given credit for not agreeing with Anger's idea to run away. Disgust went with it no question (with her disgust of Riley's situation), but Fear clearly hesitated and did not want to go with the idea at all (as he likely anticipated the consequences of that action way before Anger did).

      If Anger wasn't making a Riley bold beyond reason the climax could have been avoided. My boy Fear never once agreed to running away he kinda just got silenced by raw unchecked anger. Riley definitely has a tendency towards angry outbursts without considering the Future consequences, thus Anger abusing Fear every chance he can get.

Even in open world RPGs like Zelda botw/totk, Genshin Impact, Baldur’s Gate 3, etc, your fear helps you dodge enemy attacks and help you avoid enemies you aren’t strong enough for.

    It's very easy to explain why fear is the most important. Fear is so-to-speak the simplest and most primal feeling that you MUST get away or do something about its source. Only thanks to fear did our ancestors survive in the harsh world. Fear leads to self-preservation → survival. You could end up in a possibly fatal situation if there's no fear to balance out the other emotions/feelings. Out of curiosity you may walk into a cave that may be inhabited by a predator, you might get lost, or die from a lack of oxygen or deadly gases; you might see a mushroom, pluck it and eat it. Surprise, you'll die a horrible death from liver failures since you didn't have fear to scream some sense into your brain.

    3:58 I believe that line has double meaning, Intiatly it's mean to refer to the soul, as lacking fear also has a likelyhood to stop caring about anything, as if you did you would be scared of losing it like your life.
    Psychopaths are sort of more of this, they work like a cold Machine, working with it's functions to achieve a goal with as little function on emotions as a result of a failure, sciopaths are the emotions their impulsivity is hightened so their restriction for those emotions lessen, however fear is usually less because of what I said.
    They aren't really alive as much, they have ability to feel fear but it's gonna take alot for it.
    But for a litteral one yeah that makes sense.

    I wish Fear and Anxiety were one and the same, in my opinion. I know they are different, but as you grow up, your emotions evolve with you. I’d keep Embarrasment, Ennui, and Envy, but I’d replace Anxiety with a new emotion: “Surprise” and make Fear gain the “antagonist” role in Inside Out 2. Joy gains the ability to feel genuine love and attachment to people, Sadness gains the ability to have poetic connection to certain ideas and empathy, Anger has the ability to show conviction and passion towards certain ideas and wanting to fight for them in ways that don’t involve violence, Disgust has the ability to critique and understand social situations a bit more, Surprise would have the ability to hyper-fixate on things, and have the ability to let go and force themselves to find certain things interesting, like trying to be more focused on stuff that genuinely matters, and the other emotions can do stuff too. But FEAR, he could be more antagonistic, and it would make the betrayal feel kind of personal. Like, all the emotions are split in their opinion of how Riley should act in the hockey thing. Fear could lead Ennui, Envy, and Disgust. And then Joy would lead Surprise, Sadness, Anger, and Embarrassment. And throughout the movie, as their plans meddle with each other, we see the other emotions sometimes swapping sides and becoming morally grey as they listen to what Fear and Joy have to say about the situation and how to evaluate it. Then, in the final scene, Fear and Joy start trying to fight over the control of the console. But I want it to be clear that Joy KNOWS that Fear is as important as her, and any other emotion. She is trying to get him to stop putting so much pressure on Riley, and it gets worse and worse. I also want to add it so, when Joy says, “Maybe this is what happens when you grow up, you feel less Joy..” the emotions that are with her start to glow slightly more, while she glows slightly less. To show that Joy now knows her place fully, and the other emotions know theirs as well. Even if Joy isn’t what Riley needs right now, she still knows that she and the other emotions must coexist with each other without fighting. So they do the plan, and get back in. I feel like Riley’s mental breakdown should have more than just Fear, it could have Anger, Sadness, Embarrassment, Joy, Envy, Disgust, literally ALL emotions trying to get the other side under control. Which, to me at least, is what a mental breakdown FEELS like. It’s this clusterf*ck of emotions that are so blended together that you don’t even know what you are feeling other than pain and confusion. The two beliefs of, “I’m not good enough.” And “I’m a good person.” Things can stay. I like those. I like how Joy takes hers out too, but in the final scene, where Joy touches the console, because Riley is looking for her.. I love that. But, the scene should be extended slightly, where other emotions come in.. Sadness.. then Disgust.. then Surprise.. then Anger.. then Envy.. and Embarrassment.. maybe Ennui.. and Fear.. and then.. Joy again. Each time the emotions touch the console, it’s soft, and the characters touch the console with compassion and concern.. the scene has no words, it’s a minute of the emotions hands touching the console delicately. Maybe there’s a scene where Riley cries, and the other emotions smile and cry as they see Riley get support from people. It’s calm, and it’s showing Riley’s emotions maturity. They start to understand when Riley needs them, and when she doesn’t. Maybe then the new belief system says, “I’m a good person, I’m not good enough, I’m an amazing friend, I’m a terrible friend, I’m strong, but I need help sometimes, and the emotions all hug it. Actually.. maybe it would make more sense if the emotions simply did this before the skating scene. I don’t know.. this has a lot of flaws but it’s a start.

    • @pokedash55
      @pokedash55 29 днів тому +3

      I totally agree. They already established in the film that the puberty alarm messed up the console. Maybe they could use that as a catalyst for Fear beginning to grow more and more future focussed. He could easily just have the same prophetic abilities they have Anxiety just have Fear touch the new console and totally freak out. He starts becoming a bit controlling and paranoid of potential dangers! It would make more sense to have Fear spiral into an accidental antagonist to show how unchecked fear can be disasterous (since fear and anxiety are the SAME THING) than make some new lore breaking character

    • @T0B3573R
      @T0B3573R 29 днів тому +3

      @@pokedash55 Yeah, I also like it because it would help us understand our patterns and stuff. When I felt anxiety for the first time, it wasn’t like an instant thing, where I suddenly feel anxious and I can tell that this emotion is separate from fear, no, no, it was a feeling I had no name for other than fear. I still call it fear, it’s just a more complex version of it. Something that teens and adults feel more as they grow up, and all the other emotions grow WITH the console to become more complex.

    • @pokedash55
      @pokedash55 29 днів тому +5

      @@T0B3573R EXACTLY! It's not like in the first movie they had a character NAMED depression who slowly made Riley act weird. They instead showed it using the lack of Joy and Sadness. Anxiety is just a complex version of fear and it would have been far more poetic to have it be a slow descent. It would also make the ending hit much harder because the "no no no what have I done?" Would resonate much more with a character we already know than one that was introduced with the exact purpose of being a villain with good intentions. Just having Fear realize that keeping Riley safe to such a demanding degree injured her would be such a smart lesson for actually understanding what anxiety is and how people fall into it.

    • @T0B3573R
      @T0B3573R 29 днів тому +4

      @@pokedash55 Oh my god, yes. Like, seriously. Us knowing that Fear has Riley’s best intentions with him at all times would make this more severe. It would make the audience question things more about is Joy the correct thing right now? Are we IN too deep to go back to our friends at this point? Also it could make little kids go, “Why is Fear being so controlling? Isn’t he a good guy?” And the parents would have to explain that as you get older you can be divided on what’s the correct choice of actions when given a certain situation. For example, when I was a child, I was MORTIFIED of Jeff The Killer. Now, as a teenager, I understand that yes his picture is unnerving, but he isn’t real. He doesn’t exist. He’s a fictional character. But you know what will kill me? Starving to death, dehydration, getting hit by a car, etc. So we are going to focus on ALL of our school work and hope that all this suffering will be worth it in the end so we can get into a better college, so we DON’T end up starving to death, or dying from thirst, or wanting to relinquish our suffering by running into open traffic. All of this is for a better future. We can deviate every now and again, but we seriously need to focus on this plan because if we screw up, we are going to the less good plan. The annoyance of Anxiety not necessarily meaning life or death, but Fear for some reason does makes me annoyed. It’s annoying because Disgust isn’t just about being poisoned, but it’s also about not doing stupid things so you don’t become a social reject. Anger isn’t just about screaming about things and punching things to get everyone to notice you, it’s now also about passion and fighting for yourself or for others. To make people know you are serious and not something to be reckoned with. Joy now can be mellow, and feel like safety, or loving things. Like sugary cereal, AND your cat that you take pictures of to remind you of how much you love them. (I love my cat) and Sadness helps you now see real emotion in things that you didn’t understand as a child, and empathy, and good writing. By this movies definition, all these new traits should exist as separate characters from the original cast, but no. They don’t exist. Also it’s not really a common trope in movies with sequels to have a main character that is normal in the first movie, but becomes antagonistic in the second. And if they did Fear well as a major antagonist to the other emotions, it could actually help a ton in the overall Surprise of unexpectedness. (Also if we add Surprise as an emotion I’d make them orange because.. it’s a color that reminds me of curiosity. Like pumpkins, sunsets, monarch butterflies, amber, autumn leaves, ALL of these things are associated with unexpectedness, and change. It isn’t Fear, or Joy, it’s something entirely different. It’s an emotion that says, “Oh my god.” Or, “WHAT THE-“ or, “GUYS- GUYS?? LOOK AT THIS!! WHAAATTT!?!!?”

    • @pokedash55
      @pokedash55 29 днів тому +2

      @@T0B3573R I love that emotiond analysis! The whole ending of the first was learning more emotional complexity. They ended the film with mixed memories. Like Disgust and Fear/Sadness already make embarrassment. Disgust already handles Ennui and Fear plans for future dangers and concerns in the first too. The writers understood the multifaceted purpose and utility of them all and thats why they shrunk the cast fo five. I wouldn't add Suprise since thats a Fear and Joy mixture. I've seen people throw Love around, but that would then imply she didn't Love her family in the first creating more plot holes. I think if you're clever the core five are all you need for enriching dialogue about mental health and processes. It would have showed true care and understanding of fhe subject material to give Fear all the focus. In a story about anxiety, Fear is crucial. To me it feels like a Direct to dvd sequal in its current form. They added new characters and slapped a trendy subject matter on it without really caring or seeing what should be an obvious direction. Saying they'll be good friends does not fix the fact Anxiety is not an emotion. Fear is the reactionary emotion and anxiety is a unique state of fear. If they cared they'd explain that but they didn't.

Joy is inportant because she's Riley main emotion, she's give Riley's all personality. Anxierty is for planning ahead, making her to reach all goal in her life and be able to be happy by Joy. I think it would be very inportant these two would be able to working together, I guess what the 3th movie will be about.

    Fear is also the reason behind genocides, wars, and discrimination of races, genders, classes, and sexualities.
    Just because courage only exists due to fear does not make fear an objectively good thing, nor does it prove that fearlessness as an end goal is bad. In fact, being fearless as an end goal is a great thing for many reasons, it allows us to think logically and make the best decisions for everyone. When the threats that fear exists for are gone, fear becomes nothing but a hinderance, if not a danger, to civilized people.

And sure, there might be a day where we wouldn't need to be afraid anymore, but that's a long LONG way to go. If we somehow could get rid of fear right now, it wouldn't make anysense.
