Since there are a great number of these types of stoves in rental units this video is very helpful for people to not lose their security deposit! Also, lifting the top up people don't know! I shared this video already....

I have found my best/easiest way to make the coils look new...turn the burner(s) to HIGH. Stand by - do not leave the stove when doing this. Turn on the exhaust fan. Keep watching, and before you know it, all the grease, grime and dirt just burns away!. Turn the burner(s) OFF. You are done!

If the drip pans show rust/corrosion of any kind, it's a good excuse to swap them out too. Mine usually last about two years no matter how hard I try to keep them clean...just got a fresh set on Amazon for $17. 😉

Excellent video! You can also use plastic razor blade to remove softened gunk. Then, no worry about scratches. Great suggestion for using the #0000 steel wool!

My late mother had the underside lined with aluminum foil for easy clean up and/or replacement. She wipe the coils of after every use (once it cooled down). Need to try the oven cleaner for the drip pan.

Thank you! Thank you! I’ve been asking for a video on this one. My condo came with this style stove top and I see no need to replace a working appliance. I remember my Mom cleaning when I was young but didn’t really know what would be safe chemically

There are aluminum foil pans specifically made for the drip pans for these stoves. I’d recommend and suggest looking into those to preserve/extend the life of your drip pans.

What about a gas stove top.? I can only use soap and water. Still looks like there is a film on the top around the burners

The center of my coil does not remove from the burner. It has a hole container like thing underneath of it.

The landlord should have gotten in trouble for charging them that much. I saw a brand new stove listed for about 314.

Unfortunately the lid of a stove does not lift if it is a 1978 one piece harvest gold double oven 😕It’s a pain to clean!

Despite cleaning troubles this is why running out to replace an appliance for a new one can be silly. Where are you going to find something that’s made to last like that today?

Recently just discovered that my cooktop *can* lift up, it's just held in place by two screws that were suuuuuuper gunked up. 🤨 Why it's secured by screws, I'll never know.

Partway through the video I went and checked my stove top to see if it lifted up. (It’s a 30+ year old Kenmore Special Edition and I thought it might be too old for this feature.) Imagine my surprise when it opened right up and wasn’t actually too bad underneath. I use foil drip pan covers over the metal ones and change them out regularly. Thanks for the information.

Thanks to you I've become a Dawn power wash addict; the stuff is fantastic for all around the house! Still not convinced, however, that Scrub Daddy isn't too harsh and abrasive....I do use that brand of scrubby sponge daily, but it doesn't seem so stiff and unforgiving. Perhaps I just need to take the plunge and try the big Daddy.

I use the scrub daddy on everything especially my glass top stove. Plus I can mail back the old ones so they don’t go to a land fill.
