Part of the "joys" of farming is stuff breaking. The difference between city folk and country is that you fixed the problem, you didn't wait to have someone else (or the government) to fix it for you. Nice video guys!
Well that was weird....the music track that began playing around 6:20 is the music Adam Booth (Abom79) uses to intro his channel. When it started to play, i was trying to figure out how i'd triggered Adam's Channel while I was watching yours!! Some nice aerial work on today's vid...
Thirty years ago my Grandpa harvested corn at 3.50 a bushel, thirty years later and the price is the same. When the rains come everyone has grain and the price is low, when the rains stay away no one has grain and the price is high. You just can't win but you can irrigate except that cost you too. I guess that's why Grandpa told me to work in a factory and forget about farming and here I am wishing I hadn't taken his advice.
Say you have prolly figured it out by now but on R tractors you can set deferent detent time/speed for extend or retract on scv's. Been enjoying your videos well I am stuck in quarantine with a cold 🤒🤣 Have a blessed Easter!!
is there anyway you can give us an update on your calves. I was wondering if you had any weights and how are they gaining weight for you. and did you get more to feed bottles to. have a good day
need to put a camers on auger and the back of grain cart one on auger for unloading but make sure it have night vision cause when you have the light on the auger its blocks out the camera and one the camera on the back of grain cart for going down the road to see passing cars when your about to turn and mount the monitor up high in cab so there is no sun glare on screen its a big help
So f-ing wet on our farm. We need the ground to freeze before we can get anything else off, hopefully before it snows. You definitely know you're done with the city life when you're watching farming vids on youtube.
Ryan I enjoy your videos. I was wondering why is all your ground in strips with grass tracks through them. Is it a drainage issue. Im a small farmer in Ireland the tilllage men here wouldnt waste that ground. Thanks in advance
A farmer I spoke to near colebrook, nh has his own 18 for grain both trailer and tractor were purchased used. The trailer is a 1998 and the tractor is a 1963 Mack B-81 quad box no blower or turbo and manual steering, still has the original Thermadyne Diesel. Not the fastest truck out there but gets the job done. He has been offered many deals by salesmen and demos one for an entire week during harvest but when they tell him the price he just points to the Mack and tells them " I paid $2500.00 for that tractor not as fancy or as fast as your new one but it gets the job done. Now why should I buy your new one?
Hey Ryan u pry know this already but when I run our cart I leave it throttled up then shut the door then bring the throttle down slowly and it usually will clean the auger flighting so u don't lose any when it folds. Good Luck with the rest of Harvest!
I dont grow crops and i live in Ireland so i dont know much about corn growing. What will that corn be used for... feed and will it be used for human consumption aswell or just mainly animal feed
Had the detent set for about 7 seconds to long on my unloading auger last wheat harvest and had dang near every seal blow in the hydraulic cylinder that supports it.
When you tighten the springs, you should only see 1/16" to 3/16" of the spring past the pipe. I think it says that in the owners book. This is to keep the chain on if a chunk of cob gets between the chain and sprocket. From the video your snapping rolls look good - speed up the feeder house some to speed up the corn head so it doesn't pull the stalk all the way back in the deck plates. From the neat areal view, you need to adjust the shield thing out some more on the hopper loading auger in the combine so the pile is centered in the hopper.
My grandfather left a semi in a pretty dry field one night... Pretty sure it rained that night... lol... so anyway, it got stuff and they had to go back and get the 8285r and pull it out! :P
Rode with a guy he has a 9500 jd combine the sprocket on his header (he has an 8 row) that sprocket came loose and he had engine problems but thankfully he got back picking
That fall looked like it really hurt. Take a clean washcloth place it in a clean bowl, pour in room temp or chilled (c is better) witch hazel soak washcloth good place around hand for 20-30 minutes very good for sprains, strain, and pain! 😌
If you used a corn picker it will be on the cob but very few people use pickers anymore. Mainly just seed corn that is picked. Everyone usually just combines corn.
ohhhhh as I hit the ground. that was the funniest thing I seen all day. I was wondering what you was doing grabbing something in the air. you didn't miss any step you just thought there was another to grab. good rebound
Great videos, but why you having the combine unload in the truck... Combine should not have to dump in the truck unless it is close enough to the truck
ryan have to laugh when you fell not that you fell glad your ok but i have had handle of the shurlock roll tarp i did not get it tarp tight enough on dump trailer and bar unwound got me on leg oh that smarts then they used to have dump truck 2axel and about 10 at night we were rushing to get corn off beat rain/snow late nov and well he brought truck quick and left in semi well i started unloading grain cart and saw corn come out he forgot to shut grain/coal shute door and had to beat door shut with my mag light the fun you have on farm never dull 4 semi trucks 2 dump trailers 2 grain trailers sold dump and straight truck grain bed
@Bill Whitman: Thats a little offensive. I bought a fixer-upper, and poured my blood, sweat and money to Repair, upgrade, remodel and maintain my home for over 20 years now, which i could sell right now for top dollar. Your comments are just as bad as everyone thinking country/rural Americans are ALL; "bumpkins", or 'dolts' who can only work with their hands. I watched these videos to learn something and appreciate "How Farms Work" and the work it takes to get it done right. WHEN DID YOU last watch a video in your spare time to learn anything about living and competing with 4.7 million other people in a 30 mile radius ???
Pietsch farm. When your dealing with equipment you always have parts on hand especialy when farming because you always racing the weather or to the next job! It dosent pay to run to town every time u need a part. You should always carry spare belts, chain, a gathering chain, sprocket and spring almost everything u need to rebuild a row on a corn head or anything else!! WE DO an we hardly ever have a brake down in the field but we go threw the equipment every winter an when its out running every morning they get gone threw checked greased!! But some things u just carry with on the combine in the toolbox like bolts, chain, gathering chain, sprocket for the gathering chain!! Just good farming practice Think Ahead!!
I tried really hard not to laugh when you fell down. I failed! lol
I really enjoyed the drone footage of the equipment in the field & the view of the countryside. Stay safe.
Part of the "joys" of farming is stuff breaking. The difference between city folk and country is that you fixed the problem, you didn't wait to have someone else (or the government) to fix it for you. Nice video guys!
Cool

2:20 "Hey everybody we are at one of the UPper farms today" Nice voice crack 😂
I'm starting to watch these just for the great music.
Great shots with the drone!
enjoy seeing you guys harvest
Ryan
Excellent video. Nice variety and informative.
Ouch! Hope your hand is OK.......
congratulations on 60,000 subscribers

Ever thought about having a camera on the auger, we use it and we don't how we went so long without it.
Eric Van Nes we allways had one on ours so we can see when to close the door
Another great video, hope your hand feels better. Happened to us all.
Always nice when you catch it before it breaks more. And the parts store has it in stock
Wonderful video Ryan.
Keep up the good work @howfarmswork
how much volunteer corn come up after you harvest? the fields here southern Illinois look green from all the lost corn coming up.

Don't worry about hurting your hand, I sprained my wrist once climbing onto a gravity box.
on that chain that came off the sprocket we just loosen up the spring and put the chain back on and it's works good as new
That's an amazingly realistic representation of the game farm simulator ;)
Say you have prolly figured it out by now but on R tractors you can set deferent detent time/speed for extend or retract on scv's.

Have a blessed Easter!!
who else knew the combine would break down
Hey Ryan can you tell any difference in the corn from the old planter to the new planner.
is there anyway you can give us an update on your calves. I was wondering if you had any weights and how are they gaining weight for you. and did you get more to feed bottles to. have a good day
We don't have weights but I can do an update on them. They're out to pasture now.
*****
We have 4 tractors.
Just wondering if you guys had considered buying a semi in the coming years?
need to put a camers on auger and the back of grain cart one on auger for unloading but make sure it have night vision cause when you have the light on the auger its blocks out the camera and one the camera on the back of grain cart for going down the road to see passing cars when your about to turn and mount the monitor up high in cab so there is no sun glare on screen its a big help
why dont you guys have cameras out on the corner auger that looks into the truck that you can see from the tractor cab?
So f-ing wet on our farm. We need the ground to freeze before we can get anything else off, hopefully before it snows. You definitely know you're done with the city life when you're watching farming vids on youtube.
What's the song called at 7:28
Nice video Ryan
Ryan I enjoy your videos. I was wondering why is all your ground in strips with grass tracks through them. Is it a drainage issue. Im a small farmer in Ireland the tilllage men here wouldnt waste that ground. Thanks in advance
I used to do the same thing with the scvs but I was told by our mechanic not to do that so the oil doesn't flow as far or something like that
A farmer I spoke to near colebrook, nh has his own 18 for grain both trailer and tractor were purchased used. DTX deWit50 the best way to clean out!
you have the best job ever😊
I dont grow crops and i live in Ireland so i dont know much about corn growing. What will that corn be used for... feed and will it be used for human consumption aswell or just mainly animal feed
Had the detent set for about 7 seconds to long on my unloading auger last wheat harvest and had dang near every seal blow in the hydraulic cylinder that supports it.
Ryan you and your iPad 😂😂😂
New planter or old planter? Beans look to be ready to go too?
when is the equipment coming

ops, maybe it was on a side hill making the pile in the combine to one side. Keep up the good videos!
Have you ev er given any thought to buying your own truck & trailer?
Ok happy holidays
when is the new equipment coming
How is the yield monitor working?
Good ole Gathering Chains !!!
Nice video😊
what was the Mexican standoff. not sure if I missed it or not understanding your local lingo.
Ive always wondered....do the grain truck guys ever get stuck and you have to pull them out?
They try to stay on the hard packed areas but there are still times when they sink.
My grandfather left a semi in a pretty dry field one night... Pretty sure it rained that night... lol... so anyway, it got stuff and they had to go back and get the 8285r and pull it out! :P
just take your time,no need to rush.
should put a camera on your auger there great to have
dont you work on stuff in the winter so you dont have to be down during harvesting?
Donny Krane things break during harvest. It's just part of it. You can prep and prep all you want, but something will fail.
Things don't break on schedule, so you fix as you go.
Rode with a guy he has a 9500 jd combine the sprocket on his header (he has an 8 row) that sprocket came loose and he had engine problems but thankfully he got back picking
I hope your hand isn't hurt to bad!!! Get well soon!
What combine do yall run
That fall looked like it really hurt. Take a clean washcloth place it in a clean bowl, pour in room temp or chilled (c is better) witch hazel soak washcloth good place around hand for 20-30 minutes very good for sprains, strain, and pain! 😌
What happens to the cobs?
And as a city boy, thank you for your work.
deltavee2 the cobs are spit out the back of the combine. They break down in the soil over time.
Jim Smith Thanks, Jim.
i have dumb question when the corn comes out of the harvester is it in curnal form or on the cob
kodye lasovich curnal
curnal
It's kernel, not curnal.
If you used a corn picker it will be on the cob but very few people use pickers anymore. Mainly just seed corn that is picked. Everyone usually just combines corn.
We run the open/close augur on input 1 and open/close slide on input 2. I have never broken anything having them next to each other.
+How Farms Work do you mind me asking where you got the music from or the name of it cheers!
Need to make a checklist for every year and hours used.
How long have you had your for 6:40
How old is the 46
you need your own semi and grain trailers you could have done way more corn!
Very expensive to sit for 11 months of the year and deteriorate. I'm pretty sure they have done the math.
Hey Ryan do you guys Grow any Popcorn or have you ? Do you know any guys that Do grow Popcorn?
why don't you guys get a bigger grain cart?
$
@@HowFarmsWork if money wasn't the issue
Money is the issue, so there’s no other reason we don’t get a grain cart
@@HowFarmsWork oh okay by the way how old is frizy
How big is/are the farm(s)?
ewwww 6 row 30" corn, the worst (kidding a bit btw) (we run 8 row 20's mostly (with a 16 row planter...)) how many acres do you guys do?
you took that fall very well. no lasting damage I hope.
Three points of contact when climbing!
Nice to see y'all dumping on the go. I've seen lots of farming videos where guys just stop every single time. Drives me nuts.
+Austin Campbell With the hills sometimes we have to so the auger doesn't hit the cart.
How Farms Work I can totally understand that.
How many acres in the family operation?
+BIRDCHRIS1 ~1000
ohhhhh as I hit the ground. that was the funniest thing I seen all day. I was wondering what you was doing grabbing something in the air. you didn't miss any step you just thought there was another to grab. good rebound
Now you need to buy some cameras for the Brent
We have a auger wagon just like yours
are you okay ryan
Great videos, but why you having the combine unload in the truck... Combine should not have to dump in the truck unless it is close enough to the truck
Whats the moisture running?
King ToRok Around 20% he said in a video a couple days ago. They have to dry it down to 15%.
whats the moisture running? %%
+emerald valley farms 16%
emerald valley farms he said something around 22%
Young guys bounce, but old guys just splat at the sudden stop when body meets the ground.
Do you like falling of the back of Grain Trailers.
if you can't get a hold of something on the semi trailer u will fall cuz ur feet will slip
John deere rules 🚜🚜🚜
all the videos of u harvesting have all been corn
Ryan fell!! Ryan fell!!
Ryan and I have found one of many higher things before and it hurt
I am ready for the first new equipment to come
Patience my good friend!
was it supposed to come last week
why are there fields shaped like that
They farm in contours. It helps prevent soil erosion. The crops are rotated each year to a different strip. Ryan explained this in a previous video.
nasty fall that ryan hope u ok man
My uncle pulled his finger off when he fell off a trailer ladder because of his wedding ring
Those tractors cost so much I don't see how you can pay for them.
it happens
ryan have to laugh when you fell not that you fell glad your ok but i have had handle of the shurlock roll tarp i did not get it tarp tight enough on dump trailer and bar unwound got me on leg oh that smarts then they used to have dump truck 2axel and about 10 at night we were rushing to get corn off beat rain/snow late nov and well he brought truck quick and left in semi well i started unloading grain cart and saw corn come out he forgot to shut grain/coal shute door and had to beat door shut with my mag light the fun you have on farm never dull 4 semi trucks 2 dump trailers 2 grain trailers sold dump and straight truck grain bed
have you been a farmer all your life
Good thing you didnt twist your ankle or break something when you fell !!
how much is a truckload of corn worth?..
+Kevin Willis ~1000 bushels a load ~ $3 a bushel, $3,000.
Kevin Willis I hope you're getting more than $3 a bushel that's sad
How Farms Work I hope you're getting a little bit more than $3 a bushel it's worth a lot more here. the other week it hits $4 a bushel
+Elm custom harvesting not by the time you take off all of their deductions
Kevin Willis it depends on market prices and costs of growing it and spraying/fertilizing and fuel consumption but normally it doesn't add up to much
How does he make money
Is the tractor that you were driving a 6R
8r
Been there and done that Ryan. Gravity's a bitch! Us young guys usually bounce pretty well.
