    Ive never sold a watch in my life. I got my first luxury watch 15 years ago so now i have quite a few. I choose my watches carefully, never on a whim or listening to hype as such i still love all my watches as much as the day i bought them so i never intend to sell therefore the price is irrelevant .

      I wish I had that luxury! One day.

      @@benswatches6441 how often are you buying a new watches ? If it's more than every couple. Of years you are buying the wrong watches and should put more effort into your selection in the first place .

      You live, you learn. What applies to everything in life, applies here, too. It took me some time to figure out, what works for me. What I like. I would try to figure out, if you want to collect watches or actually wear them. Which is not the same. I have 3 watches, that I actually wear.

      Depends on who you buy from! Always try to get a service receipt.

    when it comes to buying retail, i think location must play a big part in it and timing . In the midwest I almost always get at least 10 percent to 15 percent as standard discount and 15 years ago it was like 15 to 30percent. I attended a grand seiko event in brooklyn a few years ago and I noticed everyone had very impressive collections and many were still buying full price. At least where I live, depending on the brand like Rolex, you can get discounts. I got my Omega SMP for 4K that was 2019 or 2020 though.

    Hey Ben, new to all this. Great presentation you've got here, thank you! Wow, the whole scene is somewhat overwhelming to me. My biggest concern at this time is getting screwed over with a counterfeit piece. How do you deal with that fear? Or should it even be a fear at all? Thanks again for your time and efforts. New Sub here!

    Clear Syndrom of buying watches for keeping the value.
    By watches because you love them not because you do not want to loose money. But most of Americans do not get the word love…….

    what is your opinion on after market parts? For example, i saw a 16570 in a mint condition on eBay and they put "customized" in a really small text in the description(meaning they replaced the dial(probably)). If I hadn't seen it, I would've bought it.

    • @benswatches6441
      @benswatches6441  4 місяці тому

      I would avoid that at all costs. Main reason is if you ever want to sell it it’s going to impossible to sell.

    1:50 that wasn't random though and more so planned out because didn't you get the Starbucks through a mutual friend who's family member worked at an AD and was on her last two weeks before leaving? That's why your friend asked you if there were any Rolexes you wanted to let him know before his family member left that Rolex AD. Very very cool situation but definitely not a random call. By the way, do you still have the SB? How are you still liking it?

    Ben,…most of the pitfalls you mention are related to buying pre-owned watches. People should buy retail! Boutiques allow you to handle the watches and there are no questions about provenance. If there are issues,…you have the paperwork and warranty. That’s all built into the price!

    • @benswatches6441
      @benswatches6441  4 місяці тому

    • @briankenny6883

    If you are likely to not keep the watch long term; forget about the secondary and micr-brands. It’s infinitely harder to get out of them without a giant loss -no matter how cheap you got in!
    The biggest attribute you can have ( and the toughest to maintain-for me )in the watch hobby is PATIENCE
    Regarding trying on before you buy: absolutely if you can -problematic with an older piece no longer in production. I have had much happier endings with watches that I have had on my wrist than not!
