Jacob Collier is a genuinely gifted musician. But I couldn't make it through the first 30 seconds. His voice sounds off for some reason and there's such sparse accompaniment there's nothing to pull me away from how awkward his voice is coming off. Plus the noodling on the bass in intro with relatively no sound coming from it is a performance no no. If your going draw attention with your hands then the ears in the audience are expecting a treat. He is more seasoned than this performance would have you believe.
he is singing very out of tune in the recording, probably has more to do with the stage setup being not ideal or hard to hear. i can’t imagine coming in to a late night show just to play one song is very underwhelming and not something the sound people will focus much on. he is a great musician with a lot of ideas but yeah this performance is not good and i’d hate for this to be anyone’s first impression of him.
