Forget that. Lets focus on mental health, addiction, and homelessness. These are the biggest issues and killers that Americans face. And if we can improve or solve these things, I think many other issues will be reduced or taken care of completely. The fact that we are worrying about tiktok over these issues is pretty ridiculous. Also for the gun thing, in 2021 about 22k people died due to guns (if you take out suicide which is 54%, another reason mental health should be the big focus), whereas drug overdoses reached over 106k people. And if we help mental health and drug abuse issues, there will be less people using guns in an harmful manner. I am not here to argue, I think we agree on some things here I just wanted to give some perspective.

I want you to know that this is not a so-called national security issue. The reason tiktok is targeted is that it is not subject to government speech control. The severity of the accident in Ohio was originally captured by Tiktok users using their mobile phones. Finally, it was reported by news media and the public outside the United States, and major media such as the New York Times followed up on the report. Although the day after the accident, some major media reported on the incident. But it was all about the derailment of the train, and there was no mention of a chemical leak. Of course, there must also be the issue of Republicans and Democrats trying to rob Tiktok's property together. Tiktok itself is an emerging social media platform that is separate from traditional video platforms. This platform provides a channel for ordinary people to speak and can deliver the latest news in real time. Traditional platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and UA-cam are controlled by the government. In this matter, Musk said that Twitter has a shadow ban group that works closely with fbi and cia. Of course, Twitter may have terminated its cooperation with the government after being acquired by Musk. Who knows?

If you notice, the congress woman at the end was reading her script when she made her speech claiming tiktok was a weapon of manipulation...
That speech was pre-written and they did not care for what the CEO would have said. It is nothing but an abuse of power to combat competition and fear mongering.
That's my issue with the preceedings. It was pre-planned. The verdict was in place before they even began in court, and that's what we should be scared of.
I understand the concerns. TikTok is taking action to reduce those concerns, but even so, TikTok is doing nothing different from all american social companies.
If TikTok goes down, then I expect Meta, Twitter, UA-cam, Google, etc... all to be scrutinized in the same fashion. This isn't about privacy... it's all about money to them and its blatantly obvious.

“I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...
The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance”

The videos you watch can reveal just about as much, if not more. Somebody starts watching a lot of videos about parenting, new babies, childproofing, might have a kid on the way. Or if they start watching videos about coping with a cancer diagnosis, tips to make chemo more tolerable, etc. All this talk about HIPAA these past few years, but people out here just giving away their medical histories. Now for the real fun: imagine this data being used to determine your insurance rates, if you’re eligible for a loan, if you’re eligible for employment. Love how the youngest congress person is 65. It’s not good that they have the most popular app outsourced by a Chinese company but like, it’s not gonna change with people who don’t even know what and algorithm is let alone how to say it out loud

ask any mobile dev, software can only gain "precise" GPS data from phone, if the iphone do not have "precise" GPS data, then app do not have ability to obtain it. So she should really ask Cook, why iphone collect "precise" GPS data.
Also, no one has "precise" GPS data besides US military. The GPS data provided for business use has a build in X meters degree of errors.

From a cyber security point of view this is a valid concern, as any app can open tcp/ip connections to hosts in a local network if they have these ports available. Even the router is accessible.
People just don't seem to know about this kind of stuff and the senator didn't ask it in the most proper form as it is probabbly not a field of study he is familiar with.

The idea of america questioning tiktoks practices is the ridiculous part. Theres plenty to be angry with tiktok for just like with every social media company, but theyre just upset that its not an american company being successful. I guarantee the outcome of this is that tiktok is forced to be sold to meta or another giant us tech company
