DIY Tutorial ⭐ Handmade Vintage Style Washi Tape ⭐ The Best Collage Fodder!

- 🌞Hi there, Susanne here with a fun DIY video tutorial on how to make faux washi tape with a vintage style! All you need is some gummed paper tape (Nassklebeband), a gelli plate and our Mix It Up 5 and Mix It Up 6 stamp set. These vintage tapes are great for collages, papercrafts or for your junk journals.
After I have printed my paper tapes I let them dry and then stamp them with images from our Mix It Up 5 and Mix It Up 6 stamp set with black ink. Of course you could also use other colours. I recommend using StazOn as this dries super quickly on an acryli surface! Let your tapes dry (hanging over something) at least 12 hours!!! If they are not bone dry they might stick together once you role them up! I am using an empty card board role from my shipping labels, but you could simply use a toilett role, too!
These tapes are not only nice as collage fodder, they are fabulous to decorate old card board boxes, such that come with your mobile device for example. It makes some beautiful storage tins. They could not only be used in your art or junk journals, they are also nice to decorate your planner or bullet journal pages! The brown tape can be found in the flooring dept. of most hardware stores. It's typically for carpet installation. And the white is in building dept. and is used for drywall, or paint dept. 😊 I always love watching you create, Suzanne. Your voice is beautiful, and designs are inspiring.

May I add that white paper tape in 2” width or other sizes are just masking tape found in Walmart, Joann or Michael’s stores in the USA. Home Depot, Lowe’s also have them but more expensive. I bought mine for $2.50 or so with Joann coupons.
As far as I understood, this is not self-sticky like masking tape. For these ones you need to ad a tiny bit of water to make them sticky. This tape is used to close big post packages (in Germany).
Thank you! I have no idea if this is the same tape. In Germany it's called Nassklebeband and it's used to stretch watercolorpaper before you paint it. Some people also use it for bookbinding. Happy you like the videos!

Wow, this is brilliant! Thank you for the video. I have so much left over acrylic paint that I don't know what to do with and I don't want to toss it out. This will be ideal to make my own washi tapes. Can't wait to get started! It will be awesome to make them to my own specs so I can fill in my art & junk journals with truly unique designs.
So lovely. Very inspirational. The brown tape is called Kraft tape. It can be obtained online or from craft stores & is often used to secure pictures or paintings into frames.

Well, I checked the tape from Daiso and it's sticky on the back. Not super sticky, but maybe it can be placed on some sort of backing?

It seems like it might be gummed & therefore not double sided tape that you pull a layer off of?? I think some use label pages & you pull the backing away? This was very inspiring… i loved it. Was the side you would glue down plain paper or was there already adhesive or glue on it…. If not what do you do…glue it down? What kind of glue ? Paper glue?? Just wondering about that part of it.. the project is beautiful and looks like fun !
There is glue on it, which activates with water. It's called gummed paper tape. Thank you!
Thise tapes are normally used to fix watercolour paper to a board and schould be able to be found in the watercolour supply section!! Have bought it there myself. However, the brown tape is more commonly found ...

this is a game changer for washi tape! Absolutely a genius idea! Thank you so much for sharing! One question, does the gummy side of the tape loose its stickiness once you stamp it,paint it,etc? Does this tape need to be brushed with water before sticking to a JJ? Thank you so much and your tape came out so great!
You paint the side without the gummed glue. The paint on this side doesn't affect the glue on the other.
