"95% of the people you know range from 75 to 130". Not true. People tend to cluster around other people with similar IQs to themselves because that is what is comfortable to them. It is human nature to assume most others are like yourself which leads to gross errors in judgments for people at the bottom and top of the IQ scale. Roughly speaking people with high IQs tend to think other groups have the same motivations and inclinations as themselves, the same is true with the bottom.

People who mention they have IQs of a genius are probably not genius, because If you are super smart you will definitely know it is stupid to say something like that
Well, it's a gift, that most of the people don't have. If you apply for a job interview, it would be a good thing to mention it or do the test. Don't be but hurt, be happy with what you have ;)
I did a Mensa iq test once and got an iq of 120, but personally I don't believe in it. Human intelligence is far more complex and subtle for it to be measured through some simple test. I know a guy who did the same iq test before going to college and got 115, then he did an iq test again after finishing college and got 145, he studied math. I believe that some people are just faster than others, but that doesn't mean your intelligence is completely set in stone. Just put your mind to something, and give it your all, and it will change the way you process the world around you.
Look, IQ is a quick and dirty test that measures how well a person can detect certain kinds of patterns. There generally are three types of IQ questions for a person: Those whose answer is immediate, those whose answer comes to them as they think really hard, and those whose answers just don't come to them even if they thought about it for an hour straight. It's not actually that cleanly grouped, but it might as well be. Yes, there is a certain IQ above which a person is predicted to function normally and below which there is legitimate disability. Yes, at a certain point, a person can be a good fit for a solid chunk of jobs. Yes, at a certain point, a person becomes a candidate for a smaller, more difficult chunk of jobs (Basically, the ones that pay quite a bit). And finally, there are tinier and tinier slivers of jobs remaining that no one else but the ones with the highest IQ can do. In that group, you have stuff like nontrivial scientific and mathematical research. There is no reason to pretend IQ does not exist or that it doesn't impact someone's life for better or for worse. It does exist. Frankly, I'm glad I have enough IQ to where I can enjoy a certain type of entertainment, to where I can read people better than most, and to where I can work a certain job that pays much better than average. I am thankful I could ace the material I studied in college (while working VERY hard), because unfortunately, I had friends that also worked hard. Despite their great work ethic and interest in the topic, they'd sometimes get a C instead of an A. That was due to their natural limitations, the way they were born. I would do assignments with them. I'd help them out, explaining complex topics from many different angles. I'd share other tricks I came up with like how to validate an answer is correct or how to know a certain attempt is definitely not correct. For example, and this is intentionally basic, let's say someone calculated a negative distance. Now, that one, people of most IQs will come up with automatically. But stuff like that can exist in more complex settings, and they can be harder to realize than "Oh boy, a road can't be -7 meters long." They weren't party animals. They were nerdy guys just like me working their butts off. They just could not grasp certain concepts. It was beyond their capabilities. It's not fair, but life is not fair. You are dealt a hand, and that is what you play with. You know, no one has this odd attitude when it comes to physical sports. A person is 4' 10''. No one s telling them, "OK, Fred. Height is just some random number. You can be a linebacker if you try hard enough." NO. Fred CANNOT become a linebacker. It just isn't in the cards he was dealt. Similarly, if a person has 110 IQ (or any IQ below genius), they are unlikely to excel at a role like doing nontrivial, mathematical research. It is EXACTLY like the height situation. Their mind simply cannot comprehend the current knowledge we have in the world of mathematics, and even if they could get through a bachelor's in mathematics, they certainly don't have what it takes to start producing results that even geniuses themselves find genius. Some stuff takes A LOT of mental ability. Other stuff less. Overall though, IQ and whatever else does open some doors and close others. If you have 120 IQ, you are quite lucky. That's in the top 10%. You are smart enough to become most professions. Stuff like engineer, scientist, a decent historian, a decent journalist, a decent writer, and the list goes on. You just have to work hard toward your goals. That isn't the case for everyone though. Some people seriously need a job that doesn't take as much intelligence. It sucks, but it is what it is. And as for you, let's just say I'd bet my entire net worth that you never solve one of those 100-year old mathematical conjectures. And you will not produce exciting additions to a tough field of mathematics. And you certainly will not produce an entirely new field of mathematics. There are levels to this stuff. IQ is an attempt to measure those levels (for whatever reason. E.g., sometimes it can be used to find gifted children, so they can learn topics at an accelerated rate in a way that challenges them rather than bores them to death.) It is en vogue to dismiss IQ as just a bunch of mumbo jumbo. "It doesn't mean anything." "I'm a genius, and trust me, it means nothing." "Above a certain low point, you can do anything. It is just a tool to find disabled people who need help." All these types of comments routinely get +200 upvotes on Reddit anytime they contextually make sense in the thread. It's not true though. Detecting patterns easily and others with a bit of thought IS something, and it WILL have impact on the type of life a person can live. Think about it this way: How could it be that below a certain point, we see clear issues like inability to learn English well, yet a person thinks people on the opposite side are just not different at all? They are, man. The higher their IQ, the more mental tasks they can do easily as well as the more they can do with a little elbow grease. I myself have 120 IQ as well, and I'm uncomfortably aware when a task requires more. I am thankful I had enough of it to get a 4.0 GPA for engineering (while working my butt off). I did, however, choose not to get a Ph.D., because I understood what I don't understand. I studied the next iteration of topics that interested me in my own time, and I was having issues being comfortable in my own skin in that setting. I was understanding less and less and more memorizing more and more. I just wasn't going to be a person that produces valuable research. Could I have gotten through? Yes. Could I have produced mid research my entire life? Yes. Did I want to do that? No. I'd rather be a king among peasants than a peasant among kings. I am thankful I can understand and do work that pays exceptional amounts. However, I'm not going to pretend like the brain I was born with had absolutely nothing to do with it, and I'm certainly not going to pretend like a person gets zero gains on their mental journey for a given amount of work put in when they have more IQ than I have. It's a real thing. Sure, keep saying this stuff that makes people happy if you want to be liked by a bunch of people. Practically speaking, everyone below a certain IQ hates IQ, because it is a number that says, "Look, you are not that smart." EVERYONE likes to think they are smart. So it's a great way to placate most people. But inside in your heart, just know that IQ is a real thing. Come on. It's not a perfect, infallible test or something, but seeing patterns instantly that 99% of people cannot see while looking for 1 hour straight IS something. And yes, not everything in life takes the skills IQ measure. I'm sure all sorts of professions and arts and social skills and whatever else can be extremely exceptional in a person perhaps without them having a genius IQ. It's even possible IQ lowers performance in some lifestyles for whatever reason. It's tough to say without concrete studies. But as far as doing logical work where you must understand a bunch of complex stuff and then iterate toward a solution, IQ matters a ton for sure.
I have a Special Ed. Praxis Exam coming up and been watching other vids on Standard Deviation and the Bell Curve..This is the 1st one that made the light 💡 go off! Great job and thanks so much for making this video 👌🏽🙏🏽
It’s worth noting that even people well below the mean can still live fulfilling and full lives. I know someone who was tested at an IQ below 60 (WAIS), and still lives independently, works, and has had long-term friendships and relationships. 45-50 is about the minimum IQ for living an independent adult life with some supports, 65-70 is the same but without supports. And IQs below 45 are extremely rare in human beings and usually the result of a TBI, dementia or a serious genetic illness with a low life expectancy. If you’re between 80 and 110 IQ (which is the range where I’ve noticed a lot of people seem to be concerned with IQ), you have nothing to worry about unless your chosen career is astrophysics or something along those lines. Just work hard, make good choices and try to build connections with others in your field. (This goes for people above 110 as well).
I took an IQ test on several sites on Google. Every time something is different. 114 times 66 times 145 times 119 times. They are different. Also, I am an Arab. I am 14 years old. I have never taken a real test. 😢😢😢
I did an online IQ test when I had the flu, I was very bored...... got my eldest sisters normal IQ of 89. My normal IQ is 128. I found it interesting to see how much a virus can affect your mind. Was for shits n giggles.
Mensa in Europe uses the Wechsler scale and 131 is the lower limit to get accepted and pass the test the test is 20 minutes 45 questions and the perfect score is 145 .A score of 131 is considered top 2/100 of human population and 135 top 1/100 in the Wechsler scale
Mensa is for pissing people into eye and then collect their money. We can start talking about society for smart people at that very moment when they stop charging for an I.Q test.
The Weschler WAIS for adult and the WISC for children are regarded as both the most reliable and the most valid test of IQ...individually administered with subscales...we also use it to diagnose memory loss. Sybil Francis PhD clinical psycholgist and professor, ret
@@latinaalma1947 it made me really happy that I passed the Mensa test. But all this is nothing it needs hard work and emotional stability to be successful .
@@kokomanation Chris, you are so correct. The emotional structures of our brain eg the amygdala being older structrues evolution wise, take precedence in controling our behavior when we are under sudden or unremitting stress or if we have PTSD or other emotional/psychological problems eg neuroses etc. A very smart high functioning intelligent adult can, under challenging conditions, do and say things they otherwise are far too smart to, when under those negative conditions. This is what happens when someone we know to be smart suddenly does some stupid irrational thing...what juries used to say were "acts of sudden passion". Some people are always more emotionally volatile, some less so, but most people can be pushed under the wrong conditions to act from their amygdala instead of their frontal cortex, the part of our brain that reaches maturity last at around 25...that is where the analytical brakes on our behavior..ie judgment , lie. So smart people can do very dumb things under the influence of emotion.
@@latinaalma1947 I just know this from myself how better I would be if I hadn’t those emotionally traumatic experiences in my life (I cannot talk specifically)
I see in the comments that a lot of people have an high IQ and I don't know if that is because a lot of people lie or because people with high IQ are more likely to search info about the IQ test
Actually, there have been plenty of studies that have proven that one's IQ will remain the same no matter your age. So I am not surprised at your result. This knowledge also gives me hope that as I age I will not become more stupid, or at least not make the same mistakes over and over again and perhaps avoid dementia for a little longer.
"About thirty years ago, someone found that the speed with which the iris contracts in response to a flash of light corresponds very closely to the I.Q. measured by a psychologist using a standard intelligence test. The devices used to measure reaction time in drivers' education courses also give a good indication of a person's intelligence, but so does measuring their heart rate, or taking their temperature. Colleges would probably be embarrassed to admit students on the basis of their temperature (though they commonly award scholarships on the basis of the ability to throw a ball). Colleges, to the extent that they are serious about the business of education, are interested in the student's ability to master the culture." Ray Peat
I think the heart rate and temperature correlations are nonsense. However eye movement (contracting of the Iris) speed is correlated to the working memory of a person (how much information they can process at one time).
IQ is real and reliably/repeatably measures general intelligence. It is also highly heritable (increasing as we age upwards of 80% with environment explaining the remainder), and like it or not it differs between individuals and geographic populations which has profound implications for "multicultural" societies
Do not forget that IQ is moving up and down depending on the IQ test. My IQ is moving between 113 (lowest) and 130 (highest) depending tests I did. After averaging 3 Mensa tests taken 3 months apart, my IQ should be around 125 but it means shit, you are either genius or average (people below average are not reading this comment section).

To know your actual IQ, you have to take an actual IQ test. Any random person can create a bunch of questions and use any methodology to calculate a number in the same range as IQ. If they do that, it will likely be an invalid test. If you take a few real tests, you should find you score about the same on all of them. Check out the MENSA example test online. Follow its instructions to a T. That is a real test.
The state with the highest average IQ (Massachusetts), still has an average IQ under 105. I hate when people say "Let that sink in," so, yeah, I'll just end this comment here.
I was blown away when I scored 138 and 140 on two separate IQ tests. I always thought I was below average and never had much confidence in my intellect. The Dunning Krueger affect is real lol.
Where did you take your IQ tests? There's a lot of them online but I think I'd need to get one professionally administered to really feel like the score is valid.
People below 115 do generally struggle with college especially the competitive Ivy League and high status tech universities like MIT, Cal Tech etc. The problem is at 115 or above you might have been valedictorian depending on where you went to high school but at an Ivy League you are at the very bottom and likely cannot keep up with the pace of learning. You are competing with many students around 130 while in high school there might have been only one of those or none. This is why many students flunk out and it is damaging to how they think about themselves. It is very unfair to someone with just average ie 100 5pts higher or lower to throw them in the tank to sink or swim with the top students in the country. Parents should think hard sbout that but most jus love the cachet of saying y childmis in an Ivy. NOT doing the child any favors. Sybil Francis PhD psych prof

You most probably aren't. - You're as likely to be gifted than to have an IQ below average. - Having an average IQ is absolutely ok ! There are so many other qualities that can help you succed in life (like working hard, going outside your comfort zone...)
Is this based on old-school Stanford-Binet testing or Weschler? When I was 7, I scored a 146. At 34, I took Weschler and scored a 138. There seems to be a standard deviation between the two tests of around 10 points. Fascinating, and thanks for sharing this!
@@UnknownUser-nu8ny True, but current I.Q. tests make concessions for that within the test itself. They give seniors more time to answer questions, etc.. In my case, I was 7 when I had my first one. I already did 3 tests very different among themselves, like one was just dots and lines about finding pattern. I did 113, 120 and 116, so I would guess I fall with the 115 people. I think it's very accurate, because even though I made very different tests the results were consistent.

Iq tests don’t have a maximum on score so your calculation is probably wrong. If you would score 75 on the navy test it just means you got everything right or completed the test in a certain time period etc. That’s why I don’t the correlation would be that strong. Your IQ is (x+35) away from the mean. That puts your IQ above 70% of the people tested in the nS of this particular study. But unfortunately this is not an accurate measurement of your ability to interact with people on a daily basis. Having a high IQ but a low EQ will result in you not being able to transfer information stored in your brain in an understandable way. That defeats the purpose of having the inate ability to process data. The main function of IQ is to be able to take new information and transform it into usable data. This is an inherent function of all living beings. Having a high EQ but a slightly more average IQ would be a more productive combination of tools, socially. IQ is also only a measure of periodical ability. Mood, levels of adrenalin, state of health and many more factors greatly influence the outcome of IQ tests. Also, the quality of the test you were tested with, along with the condition under which the test was performed. Therefore the decution can be that your IQ can be considered high, could be faulted by a number of factors.
I see lots of people keep on talking about Rotogenflux Methods (do a google search). But I'm uncertain if it is good. Have you ever tried this popular course?

E.g., sometimes it can be used to find gifted children, so they can learn topics at an accelerated rate in a way that challenges them rather than bores them to death.)
It is en vogue to dismiss IQ as just a bunch of mumbo jumbo.
Imagine being so dumb that you fail a IQ Test

It only changes with age
The site u are using is fake
I’ve taken the full in-depth test at age 11 and 56. Both scores were exactly the same: 132 (so I’m not a genius). Either a fluke or quite remarkable.

Anything just slightly left of the center of the bell curve is special education material.
Anything below 115 is unfit for college.

Is this based on old-school Stanford-Binet testing or Weschler? When I was 7, I scored a 146. At 34, I took Weschler and scored a 138. There seems to be a standard deviation between the two tests of around 10 points. Fascinating, and thanks for sharing this!
You have to remember as well base iq erodes with age.
😂😂😂
@@UnknownUser-nu8ny True, but current I.Q. tests make concessions for that within the test itself. They give seniors more time to answer questions, etc.. In my case, I was 7 when I had my first one. Iq tests don’t have a maximum on score so your calculation is probably wrong.
