    What a great time to get started in saddle hunting. You veterans have blazed the trail. Y'all dealt with so many trials and errors and for you to log your experiences and give detailed reviews, it really does make it less expensive and easier to maneuver through all the options on the market.
    ..I feel like I'm sneaking into the woods on a path that's already been cut trimmed and raked... with the wind in my face and the staging area 16 yards ahead of me;)

    Tethrd will replace those bent sections with a newer, strong and modified model of cleat. The newer sticks come with the new cleats. To tell if you have them, the bottom edge of the cleat that digs into the tree has been tapered (as has the top cleat) instead of a harsh 90 degree angle that won't allow them to give that 1/8" instead of bending.

    I use a small gear tie to add weight to the end of my amsteel if I need to toss it around a bigger tree. Tie a small (loose) knot as a stopper, and pinch the gear tie around the rope above it. It works great!

    I wish someone would make a 30 inch stick like the heliums that are lighter bc with my full length helium and one step aider on each i hit 24 ft and I hate to sacrifice height for just a couple lbs.

  • @stick__shooter

    Catman beat you to it! 😄
    The sticks look nice, like a more refined Helium stick. I've been running woven daisy chains and diy single aiders and that cleat system on these looks much easier.
    I like your point about being able to use 4 sticks without aiders for the same weight as 3 other sticks with aiders.

    As usual you are very concise. Plenty of information to obsorbe .. I was a a bit confused on your verbal description on seating the sticks there a the end...recording the slight bending of the fastener

    I have been thinking about putting a 1/4-3/8 oz drop shot fishing weight into the end of the amsteel rope and securing with a whip finish on both ends of the weight. Adding a short piece of shrink tubing might help keep everything silent.

    if you're having issues throwing the amsteel rope around, put a small lead fishing weight on the end. A clamp on type. Just a little one will do.

    This might hurt your argument about the skeletor stick, but I have to thank you. I have an old pair of muddy sticks that are amazing except they are 3 pounds per stick. That's 12 pounds for the 3 with amateel and a couple one step aiders. They are also a pain to carry in. Your hack on carrying in with the bow carrying strap was the aha moment for me. I had one laying around and went to grab it while your video was playing and bam!!! My problem is solved! Thank you. You just saved me a few hundred

    The heliums are a fraction of the cost of the skeletors , and nearly the exact step, minus the angle of the skeltors. Disagree with the thethrd quality comments. After releasing a very light and expensive step earlier this season, they had to issue a recall. The May have skipped a step in their QC process. Disappointing considering how expensive their gear is. I’ve ran the 30 inch hawks with amsteel rope and anchor cleats for three years with only one issue, the retention system for stacking them for packing.

    Do you run into any issues with the Skeletor because the standoffs dont pivot? That's the only down fall I've seen in my research. I'm currently using the lone wolf sticks and the stand offs do pivot to conform to the tree. Thinking about making the switch.

    • @averagejackarchery

      Yes. Mishandling of the installation caused the bend in the cam cleat. Something I did not know was such a necessity as I said in the video. I have long legs, so 4 sticks and a little more to my platform get my up to 17' off the ground.

    Unrelated question. But if you had to choose between an Elite Option 6 or Impulse 34 which would you choose? I know you’ve been an Elite guy so I am curious on your thoughts. Thinking of picking one up of those up as a backup bow/3D setup

    • @averagejackarchery
      @averagejackarchery  3 роки тому

      Impulse 34 all the way there. When I bought my first Elite is was a battle for the 34 or the E35. The E35 ended up winning and I've done a lot of great things with that bow. But I've always wanted an I34 in the arsenal.

    What's your thoughts on ah good light weight climber like the lone wolf hand climber/ summit open shot vs one of these light hang on stand with sticks in pa.?... There's not many branches on trees that get in the way of ah climber here in pa... So what do u think?. Do u think the hang on is ah more efficient way to go for ah guy wanting to get into the mobile run and gun style hunting here in pa? And if so, how much more efficient would u say it is. Or vise versa..

    • @TimPaddy
      @TimPaddy 3 роки тому

      He's been doing a ton, maybe exclusively, hunting from a saddle these days. I liked this review though, it's got me wondering if I want to try climbing sticks and a hang on in the future. I use a lone wolf climber currently. The sit and climb, but it's not worlds different. I sometimes dread carrying it to the top of the mountain. Pretty bulky, and the longer it's on my back the heavier it feels. Number one complaint I have... Makes it hard to also carry a pack with cold weather gear, etc.

    • @andrewvidal5325
      @andrewvidal5325 3 роки тому

      I switched to the Lone Wolf hand climber this year from a Big Game sit and climb. The LW is definitely lighter, easier to pack in and out, and no where near as loud or bulky. But, it's also much smaller to sit in and very little platform space for your feet. I'm 5'7, and for me it felt like this was a small as i could safely go. If you're any bigger, I'd suggest sticks and a saddle or hang on.

    • @TimPaddy
      @TimPaddy 3 роки тому

      @@andrewvidal5325 what Andrew said about the hand climber platform is why I have the larger sit and climb. The first time you lean on your toes and realize they're already hanging off, it scares you straight.

    • @averagejackarchery
      @averagejackarchery  3 роки тому +1

      I hunted exclusively out of a Gorilla or Ol Man climber for nearly 15 years. Then tried XOP hang on, then diy saddle, now a real manufactured one. I stuck with the saddle for a few reasons 1) bad lumbar discs with a climber suck 2) weight and bulk savings, I'm all on public land with big hikes, and 3) I like the feeling of being secured with a taught rope from ground to hunting height. Just my preferences.
