Cool, But There Was An Issue | Orange Super Crush 100 Unboxing

- Today we are unboxing the famous solid state Orange Super Crush 100!
I have been looking at this amp for a long time now, and have pulled the trigger to getting it. Unfortunately there seems to be an issue. The DI Out on the back doesnt seem to have any cab simulation, and sounds like an amp with no speaker. It's a set back, but when I apply an IR of my own the Orange Super Crush 100 comes alive. Not gonna lie I was a bit disappointed that the cab simulation in the back of the Orange Super Crush 100 didn't work. At least I got it working.
Thank you so much for watching!

They do offer these in black, for those who were born 6 months ago, and stuff.
YEP
Mic it like a real man. Awesome video though and great playing!
Haha I would if I would bother all kinds of neighbors. Thank you so much for watching, and enjoying! 😁
You tested/reviewed an amp based on it's DI sound? Jesus...
Just an unboxing video bro.. review is coming later like I said
I run my super crush into a ppc212 closed back cab and with the help of a boost pedal its actually pretty versatile.
The other thing I'd mention is the clean channel takes pedals really well. I use a dual rectifier preamp and an evh preamp into the clean channel for variety with nice results.
That sounds awesome! Thanks for tuning in, and sharing some wisdom on your signal chain 😁. I'll definitely be checking out a bunch of different methods, and get a full review together. I'm excited to check it out some more!
I use pedals for any amp that I have! Its the Salt and pepper for your Sound! Tuning your sounds with different Distortion Pedals turnes each amp to a new Level. I have the Randall 1502 transistor guy, its a Killer but hat to be waken up with additional pedals before you can burn down the House!
wow for being used without a cab that sounds amazing, usually i don't like them like that.
good thing about a solid state is that even if you record a real cab, you don't have to crank it, just turn up the preamp on your interface. I got this amp a month ago and it sounds awesome in a mix.
Did you really not use an actual speaker? I ask because yes the on board IR on the DI is awful. But as near as I can tell you’ve just pushed the DI signal with its own IR and the loaded another IR on top of it. While it probably works, I’d encourage you to plug into an actual speaker cabinet to really get an idea of what this amp sounds like. It’s a sweet amp. I’m not about to dump all my tube amps for it, but I’m happy to have it in my collection among them for sure.
I agree that on board IR is horrible. To me it sounded like there was no IR at all. I have since gone through my Captor X and yes you're right this amps sounds great! I definitely won't dump my tube amps either, but its a nice flavor to have along with my other amps.
@@HighImpaktAudio gonna do a full review of this?
@whj812 yes I absolutely plan on doing a full review hopefully here really soon!
@@HighImpaktAudio That's because they don't use an actual IR. It's an "analog" cab sim and it's hot garbage. Here's a link to the designer stating this: ua-cam.com/video/niW32OS0iY0/v-deo.html . (That it's an analog cab sim. Not that it's hot garbage. Lol.)
I've had really good results going from the effects send into an audio interface and applying an IR on the DAW side.
@@B_Rand0_J that is good to know. Thanks for showing me this!!
I would never use a cab sim unless I had a cab failure live and had no choice. But seriously, how likely is that? I would definitely use a load/IR box for silent practice and recording but cabs all day for live use. Thanks for the confirmation. 👍🏼
As a father in a single income family , this seems like an awesome deal....12 years ago i sold all my hammers ,deans, Randalls, and duel recs...due to cancer ....well a little over a decade later,in remission and married with a five year old ,i decide to pick the guitar back up to escape....and now i need something in budget range to push air through my old road king cab...the micro dark is ok for headphones, but its low head room doesn't like being boosted and EQed into a monster cab at full volume its lost its articulation...at low volume it sounds anemic and at high volumes it sounds squelch in the mid range even with a gate in front and in the loop....would love to try this amp out.... Mesa which is my dream amp is out of the question so an affordable SS amp seems the way to go...I've never liked open back combos or cabs...seems the classic head/ cab combination is my preference ...
I'm glad to hear you're picking the guitar back up! This amp definitely does great when it's hooked up to a speaker cab. Unfortunately the built in speaker emulators aren't as great to my ear. But once the sound hit a proper speaker then it's a world of difference.
Keep rocking on! And thank you so much for watching! 😁
@@HighImpaktAudio my micro dork emulation/ headphone out does suck...but with the right headphones at the right ohms...it's not that bad with an EQ in the loop...
@crock2434 good to know! I'll have to give that a shot! 😁
Will you do a full review of this amp. I am really interested for a demo. If not it okay dude
Yes! I'm planning on this being my next review video. Sorry about the long wait. Had to get some other videos out of the way. But I believe the next one will be this amp. I really want to dive in, and give it a true review 😁
@@HighImpaktAudio it would be great. This amp is on my radar because of the hype and a lot of people said that the hype is real
@@HighImpaktAudio except that everybody sais that the di out is garbage
Run a cabinet and mic it. The hype is justified. A tube screamer to the front can help too
Funny you mentioned that 😄
I'm going to be releasing an actual review here tomorrow I think. And I used my two notes capture X, and got some great results! My living space won't allow me to mic up a full on cab so I do silent recording. I'm excited to release this next video.
Thank you so much for watching!
@@HighImpaktAudio is it fizzy?
It's probably not even an actual IR and more of just some frequency compensation. Considering how good the amp actually is for the price, I don't expect an onboard Two Notes on top of it. It's just there to tick a feature box.
I definitely can agree with this! It just didn't really sound right to me.
Though when I did an actual review of this amp I used the speaker out to my torpedo captor X and got much better results.
Thank you so much for watching!
I'm planning on getting that bad boy and pairing with a PPC112
The very reason I like them is BECAUSE they're orange. Idk what's up with this "only beige and gray are allowed in rock & roll". I guess Elvis Presley should have shaved his head so he wouldn't look so "weird", etc
Oh man the direct out sucks on these. I own the super crush 100 head. You need to go through the speaker out for a good sound. The other thing that makes these amps sound heaps better is running the master nearly all the way up and use the channel volume as the master, basically the same as a boss katana.
Great to know! Thanks for the bit of info.
Yeah I tried the speaker out, and so so much better haha. I'll never use that DI again 😂
@@HighImpaktAudio hahaha yeah I honestly used it once and like you was super disappointed. It's bad to the point of why bother having it. The rest of the amp is great though.
I recently gotten a trade in offer for this exact amp for my fender 212fm amp. Is it a worth it trade?
Hey what's up!
Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the Fender fm 212, but from doing a bit of research on it. I'd probably go with the Orange super crush over the Fender. To me the tone on the Orange seem more warm, and have a bit more body.
Though I will say it's nice having the speakers already there with the Fender.
Would the person that you're trading with allow ya to try out the Orange?
If ya can check out the DI out on the back of the Orange, and see if the cab simulation is working for the Orange super crush. Obviously you can add an IR loader onto it and make it work but definitely make sure that's working 😅
It has a decent cab sim, but you need to remember to lowpass the signal. Also that flub flub is the sound of too much gain on an orange amp 😂😂
Hey man thank you for watching! I was really hoping for a cab emulation that was plug and play. Im more than likely just gonna use a different IR with this amp. I did do an actual review that I used a different IR, and it sounded awesome 👌. And the flub didn't really bother me lol. This video was purely for entertainment 😁
I'm generation x. I don't know what an I.R. is but the SuperCrush 100 kicks ass with my 4x12 cab and an Ibanez RG450EXB
That's alright my friend! As long as your rig works great for you, that is all that matters.
Thank you so much for watching! 😁
Why would you not run this excellent amp in to a decent cab?
Honestly this video is just an unboxing video/first reaction. Not a full review.
I live in a place where I can't hook up a full cab do to neighbors so I rely on silent recording methods. There are a ton of great IRs out there now. I saw that orange had their own DI out with an IR of their own, and I wanted to check it out. It just turned out to not be that great. 🤷♂️
I don't get why they didn't include a feature to fully deactivate the crappy emulation on the DI output to use with your own IRs. Otherwise it's an amazing amp.
A bypass switch on the Cab emulation would've been amazing on this amp! That way It'd be alot easier to do silent recording.
Glad I'm not the only one that doesn't like the built in emulation.
But when I used this amp with a proper IR, and Cab it sounded great!
Thank you so much for watching!
my brother in christ you have your treble and bass clefs confused
run a mxr gate in the effects loop
Where are these made?
Most of Orange's amps are made in the UK and I believe the have a few products that have started in China
I guess I’m glad I do t do a lot of recording so I don’t run into these problems. A 100 watt head wouldn’t e my choice for that anyway
whats ir?
IR is an Impulse Response of a speaker Cabinet. Each IR will be different depending on what Mic was used and also the speaker and the room.
IRs are a great way to record without a speaker cabinet
Just watch Ty ......
Duuuude you're stacking an analog filtered cab sim on top of an IR loader. No Bueno. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Either run the speaker out into a proper TwoNotes Captor, or run the FX Send straight to your interface as a direct preamp into Wall of Sound.
(facepalm)
To me it sounded like there was no emulation at all.
I'm just trying stuff out, and seeing my first impression.
I did an actual review of the Orange with my two notes captor X and got much better results.
Either way the cab emulation was no Bueno to me
I think it was Colin Scott of CSG Guitar channel that said you need to place a low pass filter to make the DI on this amp usable. I think he said down to 10-12K. Otherwise use your own IR ua-cam.com/video/H0twktMOCQo/v-deo.html
That would make total sense to me! I'll have to give that a shot. Using it with some IRs that I have definitely made a huge world of difference.
I haven't had a chance to watch this video of Colin's. He has an awesome channel I'll definitely have to check it out.
Thank you for sharing, and thank you for watching! 😁
5k actually :P
Sounds fizzy
The Cab Emulation is pretty fizzy. I got much better results going out of the speaker out to an IR loader, or a cabinet. You can check out my actual review to see what that sounds like
Play six string guitar and tell us more . 👍
Why on earth do people do these videos without a real cabinet, no editing just let us hear it. Brother your neighbors next time!
Hello! Impulse responses will give you a great idea on how a mic and Cab will sound. It might not be moving air persay, but in a full mix with everything it makes very little difference in my opinion.
And sorry but no editing here. I like to show you guys the rarest sound that I can get from the amp.
And yeah I wouldn't like to bother them, but to "brother" them I'm afraid they aren't quite close enough for family.
Calls Orange-amps "tacky" but has a lot of grade-schooler's RGB on his PC.
Sure dude, whatever you say :'D
With a youtube name like "Dildo Jizzbaggins" you really shouldn't be talking.
Your free to think whatever obviously.
It really doesn't matter if I don't like how Orange amps look. The important part is how they sound. If you're a real musician that should be your main focus.
