Once i saw a garden of Eden in all it's beauty, mainly colored in deep lush green, full of flowers - lots of ripe fruit in between.
Vegetables in well kept old fashioned garden beds, surrounded and guarded by old wine bottles upside down ...
Let's not forget the hazelnut hedges -- and the four cherry trees on the edges...

How good you met up with Luke and Sarah. Your and their channels are my most watched, how down to earth your videos are, they're so refreshing to watch. Your garden Maraid, has come on wonderfully over the years it's so fruitful, beautiful. Sarah says she is a little jealous (joking) but watch the way her garden will progress over the years, and the way Sarah loves her farm animals is beyond anything I've ever seen. My wish for both channels is that everyone pushes that, 'SUBSCRIBE' button and get you to 100,000 subscribers, come on everyone push that button.

The one shot after pulling down the tall plants got a chuckle from me. All I could see was a green bush moving down the aisle.
The long shot of the house now brings a better idea of how it will look later.
Your garden is flourishing because of the multitude of flowers bringing in the pollinators. Plus you both make sure to build a decent compost pile and use the compost.
Soon you two can put up a couple of chairs on that veranda.

You have the right idea with your pruning's. If you have bare soil, direct mulch. The greens will cool the soil, reduce evaporation so the soil will readily accept water when it comes, shade out weeds and begin decomposing, creating a home for all manner of beneficial soil builders.
It's never to soon to begin experimenting with a drip irrigation system. The preferred manufacturer in Portugal is Rivulus. Search for the master stocking distributor in Portugal (may have to use Spain). My most recent homesteader friend reports his watering time went from 36 hours (hand watering with hose) a week to 3 hours a week (5 hectare system with manual valves - his choice). He is in Huelva Province of Andalusia Spain.
It is funny how some of us grow attached to hats :)

Thank you so much for the lovely update! Your garden looks so lush! A real paradise! Please update us if the nectarines managed to ripe on the counter. Watching the arduous process and the amount of work producing the concrete , I am wondering if ordering a load from those huge cement trucks would be helpful? Or is this not possible where you live?

    • @NearbyVeggies
      @NearbyVeggies  7 місяців тому +2

They didn't ripen on the counter quickly enough so I roasted them before they went mouldy. We are having a very humid June and the same thing happened with our neighbour's nectarines. We had the big cement machine when the veranda was going up but it's not suitable for the other places.

That nectarine tree is beautiful! Thankyou for your comment about the tomatoes on a string to get the light. I never quite understood it as I’ve never heard of tomatoes on a string here in Australia. We are always recommended to pinch out the inner stalks for airflow and just stake up. Light is not so much of an issue here in our summer! Your gardening practices in Portugal are closer to the Aussie way I reckon! Cheers to you, and a tap on the balcony? Absolutely! 😊😊

I really enjoy seeding your garden videos especially this year. The weather here in Montana USA has had too much rain, cold then hot then near freezing. Well very hard on the garden. Seems everyone’s tomatoes have gotten a really weird virus, after studying up 🆙 north it I chose to rip out plants and throw away. Season too short here to start over. I’ll grow some dwarf tomatoes indoors.
I hope you get enough sunshine to continue with those ring beams!

If you want to dry fruit/veg get an old window and make a solar dryer from old 4x2 wood make a box frame put a backing on it then put window on top with hinges.
Angle towards the sun and cut fruit/veg remove seeds place on wire cooling rack and allow to dry .
Gardening Australia had one I made a similar and it works fast I dry herbs as well in it.

re-binge-ing all your wonderful doings, filming (that lil drone is a beauty) n your wonderful team of builders n stonemasons. I'm a kiwi n find all their skills so admirable.
As an organic gardener myself ( therefore into the magic of soil enrichment, especially in situ....cant see the point of carting stuff from one end to the other when nature does it so much better) I'm wondering why you don;t have a ride-on mower with catcher to capture all the grass clippings for mulch/weed control, rather than a strimmer (weed eaters we call em here!).There are different sizes to suit turning paths within large areas so they don't have to be huge things n cost mega dollars. I've found over the years that the mix of nitrogen (clippings) with the carbon (chips, chopped branches, leaves etc) made creating areas n improving soil just so easy

The rain in Portugal must be like a joke compared with the Irish one, no worries.
I guess I have to confess that I'm also jealous, in a good way, of your garden. I live in a flat with a small "varanda" so no gardening for me 🥲 at least for the time being.
Please be careful with the "dedaleiras" in your garden they are as beautiful as dangerous. "They can break your heart", so please wash well your hands if you mess with those.
You must be sick by now of looking for the tiles to your "varanda" so give it a rest. For a change you must start looking for roof tiles. The very traditional ones "meia cana" should look nice with those walls, haha.
